Justin Bieber’s New Single "Die" Is Really Just an Old Michael Jackson Song

Re: We've Got a Good Thing Going VS Die In Your Arms ( New Justin Bieber's Song )

Of course Michael's song is better

Re: We've Got a Good Thing Going VS Die In Your Arms ( New Justin Bieber's Song )

is it illegal for bieber to copy Michael tracks?

Re: We've Got a Good Thing Going VS Die In Your Arms ( New Justin Bieber's Song )

What a little douche... He totally ruined a good song. I don't care if it's a tribute or whatever, it's awful. JB is slowly but surely fading away so he's trying get all the attention he can get before totally disappearing from the mainstream...

Re: We've Got a Good Thing Going VS Die In Your Arms ( New Justin Bieber's Song )

I know that Justin is a fan and that he defends Michael, and I absolutely respect that, but I can't help but feel like he goes overboard with publicizing his Michael fandom. And I'm starting to think that he's doing it more for attention at this point. As mentioned, he's started to die away already...so he needs some juice to his career.

He can't compare to Michael at all.

Re: We've Got a Good Thing Going VS Die In Your Arms ( New Justin Bieber's Song )

....he need's to get some originality fast. That being said, the song wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but still kinda annoying. :mello:

Re: We've Got a Good Thing Going VS Die In Your Arms ( New Justin Bieber's Song )

I'm surprised he even knows this song.....fan or not. Usher must have helped him out with that.

His version is kinda irksome tho. I only got half way thru it.

Roger Friedman has a post about Justin sampling Michaels song.

Justin Bieber’s New Single Is Really Just an Old Michael Jackson Song
If you thought Madonna had a problem with Lady Gaga’s “Born this Way,” wait til you hear this: Justin Bieber’s new song, “Die in Your Arms,” is really just a remake of an old Michael Jackson from his “Ben” album. Bieber’s “Die” does concede that his song is “sampled” from Jackson’s 1971 recording”We’ve Got a Good Thing.” That song was written by Berry Gordy’s writers at Motown- known as The Corporation-and they are all listed on the track as coauthors of “Die”: Berry Gordy, Alphonso Mizell, Frederick J. Perren, Deke Richards & Herb Rooney.
But there other writing credits on “Die.” They are all listed as the new “adapters” of the song– Justin Bieber, Rodney Jerkins, Dennis Jenkins, Travis Sayles, Thomas Lumpkins, Kelly Lumpkins.
In fact, one listen and it’s pretty clear that “Die” and “Good Thing” are very close siblings.
It’s not like this is new. Since hip hop and rap began, producers have searched for obscure R&B hits to remodel into their own royalty stream. Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love” was really “Are You My Woman?” by the Chi Lites. Alicia Keys took quite a bit of “Empire State of Mind” from the Moments’ “Love on A Two Way Street.” She also borrowed much more heavily from The Main Ingredient for “You Don’t Know My Name. Mariah Carey’s “Emotions” was an exact rip off of The Emotions’ “Best of My Love.” And her “Fantasy” was a remake of the Tom Tom Club’s “Genius of Love.” More recently, Coldplay had to own up that “Viva la Vida” was based on a Joe Satriani instrumental called “If I Could Fly.”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvB9Pj9Znsw
But this time. getting the sample wouldn’t have been too hard for Bieb’s peeps. Bieber records at Universal Music Group, which owns the old Motown catalog. All they had to do was clear it with Jobete Music, the publishing company Gordy sold for a pittance long ago. Let’s hope The Corporation writers really get paid well for this. They deserve it.

Re: We've Got a Good Thing Going VS Die In Your Arms ( New Justin Bieber's Song )

I don't mind Justin either way. I listened to a couple of his songs on YT and I didn't like them, but I don't get the hatred and bashing he gets. Not here, but whenever you go to YT his name is brought up totally randomly just as the epitome of music that sucks. I don't like his music, but he is not the first and last teen star that plays average bubble gum pop and gets crazy popular with that just because of the way he looks. So I just ignore him and let him be. Plus I have a kind of sympathy towards every child star because of Michael's life. This is when the tough period will slowly start for Justin. He's growing up. His fan base is growing up as well. He will have to find his own voice soon and get a transition from teen star to adult star and try to keep his fans. It will be interesting to see how he will deal with that challenge that every child star has to face sooner or later. And most failed to make that transition. Michael was a rare exception. But he had huge talents, that I don't see in Justin but we will see.

Re: We've Got a Good Thing Going VS Die In Your Arms ( New Justin Bieber's Song )

about a week ago justin bieber gave an interview to forbes magazine sstating that he was working with Rodney Jerkins looking at all of Michael J. rehearsal footage. so there might be a lot more to come from him, trying to copy Michael.

I prefer to see footage from Michael´s rehearsals than to see or hear Bieber live

Biebs is really getting on my nerves - This isnt a sample. Justin ripped of every nuance of MJ from that song. Maybe I'm over reacting but it just doesn't seem right to me. IMO it shows he lackof originality or the ability to create his own. I'm glad someone called him out .. even if it is Roger Friedman.

I already noticed this right away. It's pretty obvious to me that Justin wants to be like Michael now and in the future.

BTW, anyone noticed Die in Your Arms samples the same drum beat as Do You Know Where Your Children are? (which also samples some older song, I don't remember the name).

OMG! Not only We've got a good thing going but also DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR CHILDREN ARE???

YOU DON'T MESS WITH DYKWYCA KIDDO, YOU DON'T MESS WITH THE GREATEST!!!

The song is produced by Darkchild. It's definitely Rodney's idea to sample Michael. It's not his first time.

It's just so sad that most popular artists nowadays are really only popular BECAUSE they sample older stuff from the greats....It's also a shame that the fans of these artists are too young to realize that their fave singer(s) have ripped off from the originals...The days of originality are long gone it seems...

oh, and @qbee - you're not overreacting ;)

I tried to give Bieber the benefit of the doubt, but this is ridiculous....Be INSPIRED by MJ, don't try to BE MJ....

I don't have a problem with sampling, but Justin didn't even mention this fact before he released it. In fact hours before his new single was released, Justin's manager Scooter Braun tweeted that Die In Your Arms had a young Michael Jackson/Jackson 5 vibe to it. He didn't mention that it sampled Michael and since then I've seen many Bieber fans impresses at how much it sounds like a Michael Jackson song.

To each his own but I have never understood why JB has such a large following. I do appreciate that he was a big MJ fan but it's time he was himself.

I don't like Biber because he wants to be like MJ and not himself...He should stop to make these things and stars to make his own dancing steps and his own music ^^"

Wow!! :bugeyed

But to be fair this probably isn't JB's fault.. So I wouldn't put the blame on him.

Im not blaiming Just Beiber Im sure he has wisperers - but he does know when he is singing
and prasing that song he is copying how Michael sang his song and he is not being original.
Beiber s old enough to know what going on now

Its not just a sample. Listen to the songs. I would have no prob if that was the case. The way he phrased the whole song is a RIP off/copy even down to the speaking part to copy how MJ sang his song. It's just different lyrics is all. The Co credit goes to the writer of MJ's original song. They did not write " Die" but so much of The original song was used they had to be credited as co-writer. If is was just some sampling of the music fine, but Justin ripped off MJ's whole phrasing of that song. IMO

All the adapters did, is more or less remix it then Justin copied MJ's way of Phrasing AND Singing the song.

NOTHING ORIGINAL ...NOTHING HE CAN CALL HIS OWN _ IMO

That song was written by Berry Gordy’s writers at Motown- known as The Corporation-and they are all listed on the track as coauthors of “Die”: Berry Gordy, Alphonso Mizell, Frederick J.

Now I have always like Justin and this is not a hate thing - Im just not happy with how he is copying MJ so much.
I just hope he doesn't continue being so un-original, trying build his carreer off MJ's back. It really aggravates me

Mod note please stay on topic
Dont come in her just to throw around personal insults or name calling.
There is a difference. Voice your view is a constructive respectful manner.

Just because he sings a Michael's song doesn't make him Michael. Michael had an unlimited artistry. I honestly don't like JB but i believe if he wants to be remembered 10 yrs from now he should sing songs that suits his vocals & be original. Why can't people understand that it'll be difficult to find another Michael Jackson? If not every painter can be Michaelangelo why do these singers believe they can be Michael Jackson, If they're not competing with his songs is with his dance moves or the number one charts. Michael was the one, he was an Artist not just a singer,

I don't mind sampling if it's done in a creative way. I've heard songs where the music is a direct ripoff of another song (like they're singing their song over the instrumental version of the other song). This song isn't that bad.

I hate to go against the flow, but I don't see anything wrong about it. All original writers of the song are credited. I have no problems neither with samples nor with covers. Some covers and samples surpass the originals, this one clearly don't. I neither like nor dislike Justin, he is just not my cap of tea. But I give him credit for always respecting Michael and calling Michael his biggest influence.
As to the article in question, this is Roger Friedman. And no, I am not going to agreed with dear old Rogers only because he says that I want to hear. He sounded in his article like he uncovered something that was hidden. It wasn't, it is on the surface.

Re: We've Got a Good Thing Going VS Die In Your Arms ( New Justin Bieber's Song )

I see Rodney is involved. Does that mean he would be helping Biber do more of Michael's songs?

Bieber gave Michael credit here so I guess it is OK. As long as people know who sang the original and it is available for them to listen to, I have no problems with this.

Justnat loved your post, especially about the Roger part. Time will tell whether Bieber has the potential to make his own way.
