Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary- DVD / Blu Ray [available on iTunes Nov 19]

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

Saw it yesterday in Chinese theater. The film is amazing, absolutely amazing. The sound in the theater was fantastic! (I already envy those fans that own 5.1 sound system). The footage of Michael is a treasure, he is so cute and charming in every second of it that it made me dizzy. I seriously cannot understand how people who were working with him could handle his presence and not pass out.

One thing that disappointed me was how few people attended the screening. It was Friday night, 1st day, and there were, like, 50 people in the theater. I thought it would be sold out, but it wasn't even filled up to a quarter! Does MJ have only 50 fans in LA? If I lived there (I flew down for a day from the Bay area), I would go see the movie on Friday and on both weekend days! I felt especially bad because John Branca was there and there was just a handful of fans in the theater to meet him.

They clearly did not promote it enough...

I hoped PPB and Katherine were there, they would've made huge difference.

^ The bbc are deep in crisis, unfortunately i can't imagine they see it as a priority to announce a mj night or whatever their plans are, at the moment.

I wish there was available a english sub SRT file, tied of waiting for a channel to air this special.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

I don't think the current scandal will delay the BBC announcing their schedules in the general sense, but unfortunately some people will see a clear link between JS and MJ and that perceived link between the two individuals might make the BBC think seriously about whether they should be hosting an 'MJ night' on one of their channels. Due to recent events it could be a controversial move if they show it.

Fingers crossed they do show it!

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

^^ Reading about the JS scandal that shook BBC, I can see what you guys are saying. Even if they show the doc/concert, it probably will be much more low key than it would have been without the JS scandal. Of course, in reality the two have nothing to do with each other and Michael was innocent, but BBC might fear public reaction now. And frankly, the last thing MJ needs is that he would get linked to the JS scandal in any way (ie. ignorant people criticizing BBC for showing a positive MJ docu when they have the JS scandal) Damn. The timing couldn't be any worse.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

when is the documentary going to get released on DVD?

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

The BBC isn't the only channel in Britain. Was it Branca that said it would be on the BBC, or was it just an assumption?

No it is a rumour.
We don't have any official confirmation that the documentary will be shown in the UK, but the rumour, as told by Kevin Hughes to the audience at the London premier of BAD25 (and in the presence of the Branca), was that the BBC will air the documentary and the Wembley concert during a 'Michael Jackson night'.
The BBC and MJ Estate have not confirmed it, and when I contacted Kevin Hughes via MJJC and his own website to see if he had any more information he did not reply.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

I think it's very odd that nothing has been confirmed for the UK.

I can't help but feel the whole project is dead in the water when it could have gone so much bigger just by getting the documentary into cinemas or on TV around the release date. They did all the hard work coming up with something great. In the end they just didnt bother selling it to people. Sigh.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

^I hope they do get in out in the UK too. I miss the anticipation and excitement that surrounded Bad 25 just prior to release. They can't just let it fizzle away :(

Michael has nothing to do with the scandal, but it shook BBC as it is said that many people at BBC knew about it and turned a blind eye. I think the fear of some fans is that because of fear of more criticism the BBC will back out from airing the MJ docu or at least will air it in a very low key way. Of course, Michael was innocent and he has nothing to do with JS. But you know how it is with the ignorant masses and the media.

^^
Jimmy Savile, google him and you will notice..

Sorry, I did not realize you did not know what "JS" stood for. Jimmy Savile was a long time BBC TV presenter, among others he did children's programs. He died last year, but now he's accused of raping several hundreds of teenage girls (under the age of consent). The scandal hits BBC hard, because it seems many people at BBC knew about it, only they turned a blind eye. So BBC is in the crossfire of criticisms right now for this case.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

I saw Spike Lee's documentary on VOX HD, this is the best material i've ever seen so far (together with Moonwalker and ZDF HD History concert). We finally get to Michael's work into High Definition (super 16mm/35mm footages scanned into at least 1 and 2K). Well I wonder who or which company invest for the scanning process of the 35mm video samples (Another Part of Me, TWYMF and Bad), is it Spike Lee production itself (courtesy of the Estate) or Director's cuts Archives? Whatever the job is brillant !

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

Hi, are any of the mods able to contact the MJ Estate to ask them if they are aware of a UK channel broadcasting the documentary?
We've been waiting for a long time and we still only have a rumour to believe in.

If the Estate haven't managed to sell the documentary to a UK broadcaster then they should at least be able to give us a firm 'no' which, although it would be disappointing, it would bring an end to the speculation and waiting.
