I think that's what many of us thought too, but it's very clear from what the Estate have said in the past that MJ did not organise his footage very well and didn't take care of it - that is part of the reason why the Wembley concert has been released from a VHS. A lot of MJ's footage is either mis-labelled or not labelled at all and much of it is not stored in a logical order, or in logical places. It seems to be in random boxes scattered across multiple sites. It certainly wasn't being stored in proper conditions, which given how careful MJ was to document his life, seems unusual to me. What's the point in recording so much of your life and employing videographers etc to follow you round and then not keep your footage organised and in good condition?

No, it probably looks similar to some extent.
Just because they can't find a single Wembley show doesn't mean there isn't countless other material throughout his career stored.
Master tapes for shows and multi tracks for album songs and film and maybe even hordes of home movies.
And MJ wouldn't have been the one organizing it, anyway.
Even in Bad 25, they had the archive manager who was showing hand written notes.

I don't think Karen Langford was Michael's archive manager back in the day. She happens to be a paralegal that works for Branca and handled a lot of Michael's business and legal affairs in that capacity. It seems in her current position with the MJ Estate, she also became the one that's responsible with the archiving process.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

I thought it was absolutely fantastic...I loved it...It was quite touching for me (I was a total mess at the end )..To have that type of attention on his musical genius as opposed to the usual 'everything else' was such a breath of fresh air. I had a perma smile...I was watching it at my sister's place with a ton of other people and we had just put it on the background but everyone was fixated and so into it... And these people weren't really considered fans...But they had nothing but positive things to say...And it brought back so much nostalgia for us all :)

I just can't wait to get the BluRay to fill in all the missing parts...Kinda disappointed that so much was edited, but then it just makes me look forward even more to the bluray release...This was simply a preview of what's to come :D :D

I'd just like to say thank you to Spike and everyone involved in this documentary who put Michael back on top where he belongs...I really felt it gave him back the respect and dignity that he and his music deserve.:)

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

Really enjoyed this documentary.......the 1988 Paris footage was great, which they had the complete concert.
Better video quality compared to London.
Little dissapointed with the quality on the original short films, should be possible to remaster them so picture would be better.

It seems to me that is what the Estate is determined to do. I feel it is a shame that Michael's children do not or are not allowed to show support to the Estate for what is being done in behalf of their father's legacy and their inheritance. I hope when they come of age they gain a true understanding and appreciation of what the Estate has done. Many others, including the Family just wanted the assets liquidated ASAP to pay off the debts and get some quick cash. The only thing I found the Family supporting were lame projects in Michael's name that only supported their own financial gain and did nothing positive for the legacy of Michael.

I agree with you. While I don't think Paris is obliged to support anything - and that includes tacky belts as well as Estate projects - since she's a child, but on the other hand she does show support a lot of artists all the time, so maybe, just maybe besides congratulating for Miley Cyrus' birthday she could have said a positive word or two about Bad25 as well. It's something to be proud of on their father's behalf. But I guess they are kind of brainwashed about the Estate.

Maybe it was but the raid by 70 sherrifs on neverland in 03 and over 100 search warrants issued on all mj locations between 03-05 put all this organisation under stress. Then you have mj leaving neverland and wandering the globe for the last 4 years of his life and having to drastically downsize his empire and operations. I think with his trauma of the last years, the storage of all his stuff was not a priority.

Ratings: 'Michael Jackson: Bad25' Falls Short; NBC Wins Night

Tom Brady, not Michael Jackson, is king of Thursday night

Michael Jackson was no match for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots Thursday night.

NBC easily won the night with a Patriots-New York Jets game. The Patriots triumphed, 49-19. The game peaked with 18.8 million viewers at 9 p.m., according to early ratings. (The audience will probably go up for the live sporting event.).

“Bad25,” a Spike Lee documentary saluting the King of Pop, averaged 4.6 million viewers for ABC.

A football overrun pushed back the Fox lineup by 17 minutes. In the 8 p.m. half-hour, Fox drew 17.9 million viewers. By the next half-hour, the audience for “The X Factor” dipped to 8.3 million.

The prime-time averages: NBC with 15.9 million, Fox with 9.4 million, CBS with 6.8 million for reruns, ABC with 4.2 million and The CW with 819,000 for reruns. NBC won the 18-to-49 age group by a wide margin.

A rerun of CBS’ “Person of Interest” attracted 6.8 million viewers and was a bigger draw than the Jackson special. CBS did even better with two reruns of “The Big Bang Theory,” which attracted 7.1 million and 7.3 million.

Michael Jackson couldn't beat Lady Gaga in the battle of the Thanksgiving specials.

The Spike Lee documentary "Michael Jackson: Bad25" on ABC fell short of last year's "A Very Gaga Thanksgiving," according to preliminary numbers. Meanwhile, NBC took a commanding overall win on the strength of its NFL coverage.

NBC grabbed first place in ratings with a 5.8 rating/18 share in the 18-49 demographic most important to advertisers and was first in total viewers with 15.9 million -- far and away, the best network performance of the night. While the nature of live sports renders the network's numbers approximate, the Patriots-Jets game scored a 6.0/20 in the demo. The game was preceded by "Football Night in America," which posted a 3.7/12 in the demo.

Due to NFL overrun that pushed Fox's primetime schedule back ("The X Factor" began at 8:17), the network's preliminary numbers for the night are unreliable. However, as it currently stands, Fox holds second place in ratings and total viewers with a 3.1/10 and 9.4 million. Aside from "The X Factor," the network also ran "Glee."
CBS, which ran repeats throughout the night, took third place in ratings and total viewers with a 1.7/5 and 6.8 million.

ABC came in fourth in ratings and total viewers with a 1.2/4 and 4.2 million. "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" at 8 drew a 1.2/4 -- down 33 percent from last year's airing -- and had 4 million total viewers. Following a "Modern Family" repeat at 9, the special "Michael Jackson: Bad25 at 9:30 drew a 1.2/4 -- down 25 percent from last year's ABC Lady Gaga special "A Very Gaga Thanksgiving" -- and had 4.5 million total viewers.

sounds like the writer of that piece is pretty excited that Bad25 got beaten out in the ratings...

No one expected Bad 25 to beat NFL...

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

I loved it, screw what ratings say. They're irrelevant when it comes to modern television anyways. And comparing it to Football, which usually beats everything here in the States is pretty unfair. Anyways, as I said, I loved it, there was lots of footage I never got the chance to see before, that I saw last night. Then it got to the part where Jermaine made the announcement and then showed everyone's reactions, and tears began to flow.

Spike Lee did an amazing job with this film, IMO.

Disappointed that the TV broadcast of @SpikeLee's #Bad25 was cut down to about half the length of its theatrical release. :(

I'm in Europe, but I agree with Joe it's disappointing if ALL that cut out. The Baldwin quote should have been left in: especially the US need a bit of reflection on how they treated MJ...

What was the Baldwin quote?

”The Michael Jackson cacophony is fascinating in that it is not about Jackson at all. I hope he has the good sense to know it and the good fortune to snatch his life out of the jaws of a carnivorous success. He will not swiftly be forgiven for having turned so many tables, for he damn sure grabbed the brass ring, and the man who broke the bank at Monte Carlo has nothing on Michael.
All that noise is about America, as the dishonest custodian of black life and wealth; the blacks, especially males, in America; and the burning, buried American guilt; and sex and sexual roles and sexual panic; money, success and despair – to all of which may now be added the bitter need to find a head on which to place the crown of Miss America.
Freaks are called freaks and are treated as they are treated-in the main, abominably -because they are human beings who cause to echo, deep within us, our most profound terrors and desires.”
—James Baldwin (1985)

Gaga's thanksgiving last year got abc's best ratings since 2007 (5.5m). Beyonce in 2010 got 4.4m in the same slot. These were the hottest stars in each of those years, so big congrats to mj's 4.6m.

Wonder what a doc on fame25 in roughly 2035 would draw?

Just got radio 4 on, front row at 7.15pm tonight is reviewing lee's bad25.

Re: The Spike Lee BAD 25 Documentary /DVD/ TV / Theater Release [Discussion]

Latoya and the whole Jackson family have literally snubbed the BAd25 album and any mention of the Spike Lee doc. ( and influenced the children to do the same. Ill reply to her tweet with _ Thanks to Michael's Estate bringing @SpikeLee aboard & providing all the footage we have a beautiful testament to Michael.

Thanks for the perspective. Of course, there will always be journalists trying to make it look like a flop. It's MJ after all.
