Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I was thinking about the potential music videos for this upcoming album, seeing as the Estate will likely have to produce one or two. I submitted this idea to the Estate in the other thread so I thought I'd put it here as well:

I was thinking that for perhaps one of the music videos, you could simply just have a music video of a bunch of well-known celebrities (from today and past) coming along together and then dancing to his music in the music video - just having a great time! I guess it'd be like Liberian Girl 2.0, since there are many celebrities cameoing! It's also just like Paul McCartney's recent video for Queenie Eye, where a bunch of celebrities come and dance in the studio as Paul performs the song on the piano.

While there might be a problem acquiring celebrities, should you execute the idea well enough it would certainly gain a lot of attention in the press and it would be fun for both fans and non-fans alike to try and spot their favourite celebrities in the video. If someone unfamiliar with MJ's work hears that their favourite artist appears in a video for a new song and goes to check it out... who knows, it might introduce them to the incredible works of Michael Jackson :D

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

Most of Michael's biggest hits came from his own mind so I don't think it's right to fully change these songs. This guy really was a genius and his ear for melody was incredible, I think if they really want the biggest hits, stick to Michaels mind and his plan - a huge overhaul isn't in my opinion needed.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

i was pointing out his work on fall again for the most part, i believe if there is a wonderful ballad coming to this record then Robin could work some magic.

He is not a producer. He is singer/songwriter. So the only thing he can do to already written MJ song is record his vocals and make it a duet and that's something we do not want.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

You obviously don't know good music when you hear. This is crazy talk.

Considering Michael Jackson is my favorite artist of all time, I would say that I do know good music. And very little of Blurred Lines falls under what I considered to be quality.

I'm not denying that Robin can produce good music. As IMWhizzle said, his last few albums (which I listened to on iTunes before writing this post) are admittedly really good. But Robin is much like Usher in my eyes - an artist who peaked far too early and sank into the mainstream europop world in a desperate attempt to stay relevant. Blurred Lines offers too little for me. Blurred Lines, Ain't No Hat 4 That, Get in My Way and The Good Life are the only quality songs. Give it to You is purely awful, For the Rest of My Life is hollow, and everything else is either bland or uninteresting, something that you don't want to say for a Michael Jackson album. I feel the same about Daft Punk's Random Access Memories - much of it has potential but the songs don't match the energy/emotion they're trying to convey.

If you want to hear old school music with a melody that will stick in your head for days, go listen to "Suit & Tie," "Let the Groove Get In" or "Don't Hold the Wall" from Justin Timberlake's 20/20 album. That is how Michael would have done it. (Maybe not musically, but rather in the attention to detail, knack for melody and irresistible groove.)

Most of Michael's biggest hits came from his own mind so I don't think it's right to fully change these songs. Agreed. Take Hold My Hand as a fine example. The album cut is practically identical to the original demo, though it sounds much fuller in its instrumentation. Even if you prefer the original recording, you have to admit that Akon did a good job finishing Michael's vision.

This should be the blue print for any producer working on a song. Ignore mainstream music. Ignore what is popular nowadays. Take the core of the song and make the necessary embellishments.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I liked the original Hold my Hand more, but Akon did a great job. I like the new vocals he added too from outtakes from Michael.

Again, a good post from Always there. The 20/20 is a good album and songs like Suit & Tie (minus the horrid ending), Let The Groove Get In, and Don't Hold The Wall keep me returning to listen. Body Count is fantastic Timbaland production.

I am excited for this album, because I liked what I hear from JT.

Escape is outdated...just saying. Anyone saying it should be released as is, is crazy. Musically it isn't where I think it should be.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

Na

Now this is awesome funky stuff!
this is top song in annoying charts. melody and vocals are just empty. that's my opinion

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I hope Timbaland won't make MJ's music sound like Justin Timberlake.

Obviously Timbaland has got his signature sound that will be present on this album like it is on JT albums, but I hope it won't be MJ goes JT - I hope Timbaland will let MJ sound signature MJ and not like a copy of anyone else. The production on JT albums certainly has attention to detail, but to me JT's music is just uninspiring and pretentious.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

Only good production on 20/20, for me anyways was Blue Ocean Floor.. i adore that song a lot. If timbaland is given one ballad to work on from the archive then i hope he will stay true to the original origin of Michael's work ethic on the recording and he will not add any vocals, melodyne or anything in between.

I never got what the big deal was about Justin Timberlake either. I do like some of his songs but I wouldn't go as far as to call him ''The Prince of Pop'' (Yes some people call him that). He's very hit or miss for me. And the only song that I really love by him is Rock Your Body

Rather than having others dancing to MJ's music AGAIN (the videos of the Michael album were about fans dancing to MJ's music etc.) I'd rather watch videos which have behind the scenes footage about MJ. To be honest the videos of the Michael album did not move me AT ALL, I don't even consider them MJ videos. They are too weak, uninspiring and not very creative IMO. I realize that with Michael not being here it's difficult, but I don't think there couldn't be other ideas than people doing the moonwalk, wearing a fedora and a single glove and dancing to MJ's music etc. So something else than the cliché MJ things. Esp. if Paul McCartney did something similar recently I don't think it's a great idea. The Estate should try to get a bit more creative than last time with the Michael album.

To me the best "video" since MJ's death was that studio footage that Barry Gibb released with All In Your Name.

Maybe future MJ videos could be animated? I think that's a cool and creative idea

Hey, that's actually a pretty great idea. Something like this but with better and clearer visuals could actually work

[youtube]watch?v=jKgH450_xrI[/youtube]

If they wan't a simple video they could just use unseen concert/studio/behind the scenes footage etc etc.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I like the ideas of studio footage as well as animation. My favourite type of music video would, of course, be unreleased studio footage of Michael recording the song... but if that idea isn't possible, we don't really have that many avenues to go down.

I wouldn't be interested in a simple 'compilation' music video to be honest (like that alternative version of Who Is It). If they were going to use old footage from his videos/performances, they could 'cut' out Michael and add some cool visual effects - just like the titlecards in Vision.

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I've wanted them to use the motion capture from ghosts to animate mj for a video.. their is alot of unused footage motion capture that they did not use in ghosts.. if the compulate that footage and even smartly mix it with some specific moves that were even used for ghosts they cud come up with a whole new dance footage of mj dancing...

Re: News and discussion about upcoming MJ album [Update Pg15]

I really would love it if the original History crew would work on the tracks. Just listening now to the album after a long time it feels so Michael and organic in a way!

wonderful idea, it's just whether they're wanting to create a short film featuring body scans of Michael, or something like hollywood tonight.. i would love to see what ideas they could come up with some possible archive footage, perhaps they have sporadic footage that they could use as a montage for one of the song's..
