New Official "Say Say Say" Remix Coming October 2015

^ my guess would be is the financial aspect to it.. why help the 'competition'? mentality.

No competition.

The Estate benefits financially from each of these posthumous releases. From Sir Paul's remix, to Queen's duet. Even Jackson Five Rare Pearls collection and Michael's solo collection from Motown.

Song of the week: Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson, together again

Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson have quite a history; first as collaborators, pairing up for a pair of early '80s singles, the goofy The Girl Is Mine and the groovy Say, Say, Say; and then as rivals, after Jackson famously outbid McCartney in 1985 for the rights to the Beatles' back catalog.

Now, six years after Jackson's death, Macca is breathing some new life into Say with an upbeat remix featuring previously unheard vocals from the two Kings of Pop. Unveiled in a brand-new music video on McCartney's Facebook page, the 21st-century edition of the 1983 single swaps the singers' parts, splicing together two unused lead vocal performances to give Jackson, not McCartney, the opening lines of the song: "Say, say, say what you want, but don’t play games with my affection."

Find the remix, along with other hidden McCartney gems, on a new reissue of Pipes of Peace out now.

Michael/Sony did also release the track on the King of Pop-Album in 2008. I don`t think they would have done it, if Paul holds all the rights.

They did, but I don't think it was remastered.

I don't know about that. Marlon said once that they get no royalties from Motown, and so have several other former Motown acts from that era. They pretty much all had the same kind of contract from Motown. Even El DeBarge, a later act, said Motown took their (DeBarge) publishing and he doesn't own it. DeBarge wrote many of their songs, unlike the J5.

Tygger Is there a document that basically states everthing with Michaels name and image the Estate gets compensation? I'd assume that would be the case but is it? I mean it would be tricky when it comes to other record labels and there releases..

Sony-EMI Deal Reunites Jackson 5 Songs With Michael Jackson

"I Want You Back" - Michael Jackson finally gets his wish.

In the years after Michael Jackson became an international superstar, the song &#8220;I Want You Back&#8221; took on a new, reflexive sort of meaning for him.
Flush with cash from the stratospheric success of his solo career, Jackson thought seriously about buying the publishing rights to some of the songs he&#8217;d recorded years earlier as a member of the Jackson 5&#8211;including &#8220;I Want You Back,&#8221; one of hundreds in Motown&#8217;s Jobete catalog, then owned by the legendary Berry Gordy and his sister. Despite serious interest from Jackson, who was &#8220;like a son&#8221; to Gordy, the music mogul sold a 50% stake in the catalog to EMI for $132 million in 1997.
But dreams often take a lifetime to achieve, and the King of Pop seems to have realized this one posthumously. On Friday, a Sony-led team of investors purchased EMI&#8217;s entire publishing catalog for $2.2 billion. The group includes billionaire David Geffen, the Blackstone Group&#8217;s GSO Capital Partners LP, and none other than the estate of Michael Jackson (its stake is nested within Sony&#8217;s 38% share of EMI, according to sources close to the negotiations).

The move makes sense for reasons beyond just the sentimental. Michael Jackson&#8217;s estate still co-owns the separate Sony/ATV publishing catalog in a joint venture with Sony; that company, headed by former EMI chief Marty Bandier, will administer the newly-acquired EMI assets on behalf of the investors.
Still, the reunion is little more than a drop in the financial bucket. Because Sony/ATV will soon begin receiving administrative fees from the EMI catalog&#8217;s new owners, its own value is likely north of $2 billion as well.
As for Jackson, his estate has raked in half a billion dollars since his death two and a half years ago. And though the King of Pop&#8217;s posthumous concert flick was called This Is It, he&#8217;s just getting started from a posthumous earnings perspective. Jackson&#8217;s Immortal World Tour, a partnership with Cirque du Soleil, is grossing $2.4 million a night; plans call for over 100 shows a year for each of the next three years.

DuranDuran, the Estate is co-owner of the Sony/ATV catalog which includes Motown's publishing so the Estate benefits financially from all Motown offerings including Rare Pearls and Michael's solo collection. Previously the Estate refused to allow Michael and his brothers' M25 rehearsals to be included in the M25 Time-Life offering despite financially benefiting from that offering.

Tygger Is there a document that basically states everthing with Michaels name and image the Estate gets compensation? I'd assume that would be the case but is it? I mean it would be tricky when it comes to other record labels and there releases..

The will gives ownership of Michael's name and likeness to the estate. Michael, and therefore his estate, maintains copyrights to these songs as well.

Nah it's not that, The Estate are financially benefitting from this through the royalties.

I'm surprised that somebody with twitter hasn't tweeted the Estate. I think the Estate should not only post about it but send out all these tweets from celebrities.
It is new, great vocals from Michael and they should be proud.

Any possibility that Paul asked them not to and wanted to do it thru his own social media? I doubt that, but I wouldn't know.

I just watched the official video for the Say Say Say remix and it's more of an MJ video that a McCartney video if you ask me. It was tweeted out on the MJ twitter account bTW.

No, there's absolutely no benefit to that. After all, the more people who know about it = the more sales they're likely to get and thus more money.

Oh cool! I'm hoping they post it on Facebook too since they have 38x the followers there.

Hooray!! It is more of a Michael video than Paul especially capturing the joy and happiness of the young kid on the street. Especially love the part where they mime playing the harmonica, guitar and drums and also when the mime singing "Baby" together.
I know I keep using the words joy and joyful, but that's how I feel when I see and hear it too.

Hopefully will be on Facebook page soon. They should get a lot of traffic from that!!

Thats right.
This was due to J5 leaving Motown before contract was up and the lawsuit that followed.
"Jackson's agreed to surrender royalties due them on recordings they made before 1 Dec 1979 and on future releases of recordings made before 11 March 1976 - in other words, on all of their hits. In exchange, Motown agreed to accurately account for, and pay royalties on any "new product", which included - 1976 recordings, that have been recorded but not yet released and on any "best of" albums they may put out in the future"

Michael later sued Motown for not paying any royalties from those new products or best of albums that Motown put out.

^^Amazing that the Jacksons or any of the Motown artists kept their good relationship with Berry. They all seem to keep this family feeling and I've always liked and admired Berry. But Their contracts really screw them over.

I'm surprised everyone is not penniless.

Paul McCartney &#8207;<s>@</s>PaulMcCartney <small class="time"> 2h2 hours ago </small> Kayla from the US asks: “What was it like working with <s>#</s>MichaelJackson?” Find out Paul's answer HERE: http://www.paulmccartney.com/news-blogs/news/you-gave-me-the-answer-kayla-from-the-us-asks … <s>#</s>SaySaySay

Kayla asks, “What was it like working with Michael Jackson?” This timed in perfectly with the release of the new 'Say Say Say [2015 Remix]' video, which was premiered exclusively at Facebook yesterday!

Paul responded: “Thanks for your question Kayla. I got a phone call from someone who I thought was a girl - a fan - because of the high voice so I was a little bit apprehensive at first about who it was. And then it turned out to be Michael and he said, ‘Do you want to make some hits?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, sure!’ So anyway, we decided that he would come over to England and he hung out with us as a family. It was a lot of fun! The guy who he had as his kind of handler at the time - who looked after him and helped him get from here to there, a guy called Billy - liked seeing how natural Michael got with just hanging out with the family. He said, ‘Oh, you guys are really good for Michael’. So yeah, we had a lot of fun – a really good time. We ended up in my officeand wrote ‘Say Say Say’ there, on the upright piano.
"And then that was that, Michael went back to America and demoed it – so he thought – with some LA guys. But when I heard it, I thought it was fantastic. Because the LA session guys are really super, good and funky so that’s pretty much what we used as the backing track. That’s what Michael came back with. So that was great, he was always really good to work with. Then we did the video, which was fun. We did that out in California and yeah, it was really nice – a good time!”

I was talking to a fellow MJJC'er and they're 100% insistent that the new Michael vocals are James Porte ... Is this always going to be a thing now? We get something new and long term MJ fans are 100% convinced it's fake? Sigh :(

I'm sure Paul didn't mean it in bad or rude way but I don't think Michael had a girl's voice, high pitched yes but it sounded like a boy to me. Just my 2 cents on that.

I'm loving it better than the original released version because Michael singing Paul's parts was an unexpected twist. MJ's fb page should had shared the video IMO.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but comparing these previously unreleased vocals to the Cascio fraud is ridiculous and idiotic. Why would Paul do that? Enough is enough!

James Porte?? Why James Porte?? Does he/she even know who James Porte is or how he sounds like?

I hope they put the video on Michael's Facebook pretty soon. More people need to see/hear this. I was never that familiar with Say, Say, Say (as opposed to The Girl is Mine) only because I never bought Paul's album. But I adored the video and always thought it was one of the best videos. Always reminded me of a Gene Kelly musical. (Still love it even tho it can sometimes be melancholy, since I'm looking at what became Neverland.)

So I think I'm enjoying this new version even more than I normally would. (Had it been one of my top 10 favorite songs or something).

I never got the thing about Michael's voice. There was only ONE occasion that it sounded super high to me and that's his opening lines in Captain EO. That's it.

I guess it's funny about the impostor thing-but that's pretty ridiculous, actually. I don't know why that would occur to anyone.

I think instead of worrying about whether these vocals are real or not (hint: they obviously are), they should be worrying about how bad their hearing is instead.

Anyone who thinks this isn't worth your time IMO

Regarding James Porte, He is a music mixer and engineer to many big hits.. I don't remember how he actually sounds.. Does anyone have an example of his own vocal work?

James Porte?? Why James Porte?? Does he/she even know who James Porte is or how he sounds like?

Whoops. I meant Malachi. I didn't even try and get into it because we're friends and I didn't want to start a rumble ;) I just don't know why anyone would think Paul McCartney would put out fake MJ vocals, but she's 100% heels dug in convinced it's Malachi. Moving on ...
