Michael's Unreleased Material [MERGED]

Re: What's the next "holy grail" of unreleased MJ songs?

i hope TYLA gets a killer production.
knowing the estate, they will turn it into a crappy trap song with drake on it.

Re: What's the next "holy grail" of unreleased MJ songs?

I think it's something we either don't know about or wouldn't expect. Like, maybe the RedOne tracks are absolutely mind-blowing, or there's an incredible song in the vault that we've never heard of before.

Re: What's the next "holy grail" of unreleased MJ songs?

Adore You has always interested me, I think Brad or Michael Prince said they recorded a 30 piece choir at MJs House for it.

Re: What's the next "holy grail" of unreleased MJ songs?

how many unrelease songs out there? we got a few more from the estate a few years ago.

Nobody outside the Estate/Sony circle has any idea. There are several dozen titles confirmed to exist, but we know next to nothing about the majority of them. And that's not accounting for songs we may not know exist.

As far as how much finished material exists, there's a lot of conflicting information. The Estate claims there's not much of anything left; Matt Forger evidently told a seminar group that there's enough music for one more full-length album; Teddy Riley said there was enough for a couple more albums (including a proposed "duets" album); J. Randy Taraborrelli once claimed the Estate told him there were only 17 finished songs left in the vault; etc. Plenty of people in the know have been notoriously tight-lipped about the state of the vault, so we have no clue.

Re: What's the next "holy grail" of unreleased MJ songs?

they had 24 songs ready for Xscape.
Only 8 songs were used.

Will.i.am and RedOne Sessions weren't considered for xscape. pretty sure RedOne has 2-3 releasable tracks too.
(will.i.am acting like a bitch and doesnt want to share his stuff. redone wants to release it for charity)

2 full albums are easily possible.
i just hope we get all the vocals from the will.i.am sessions and somebody else does the music. will.i.am is quite mediocre with his productions...

I must say, don’t underestimate Will.I.Am as a producer. He can do a great job if he is putting time and effort in it. Some Justin Timberlake productions and the production of the Sergio Mendes album were top notch. He can adjust to the artist while being innovative at the same time.

But I do understand what you mean if you listen to his mainstream releases.

As John Branca stated, the problem generally is that Michael Jackson left many unreleased songs that he composed, but these songs do not have his voice on them.

In any case, most of his unreleased songs from his career (in a complete, or in a nearly complete state) come from the ‘BAD’ recording sessions, and a testament for that is that the Estate had the luxury of choosing from around 60 unreleased, complete/nearly complete songs for the ‘BAD 25’ album.

An interesting thing about will.i.am is that this producer's recording process with artists is to record seven songs in order to get one song.

This implies that if there was a finished studio album with Michael Jackson at that time (when they were working together on it), then there are additionally six unheard songs for each one song of that album.

Now that we have the full Men in Black, what's the next "holy grail" of the MJ vaults? Personally, I think it's Chicago 1945, although I've heard that Get Your Weight Off Me is still anticipated by a lot of MJ fans.

According to certain descriptions, ‘Can't Get Your Weight Off Of Me’ musically sounds very similar to the first three songs from the ‘Invincible’ album, which makes it a rather generic song and it is really doubtful that a lot of his fans really anticipate it.

Well, The first three songs, with privacy 2000 watts and threatened sre the best songs on invincible, for me... So I would definatelly liked Get Your Weight Off Of Me

Don't trust Branca's word on MJ's music.

CGYWOOM is even more similar to Privacy, especially in the way it is sung and the whole tempo of it

Re: What's the next "holy grail" of unreleased MJ songs?

There's still quite a few songs I still can't wait to hear, Joy, full version of Men In Black, Buffalo Bill, Chicago 1945, later versions of Don't Be Messin' Round, anything post 2005, Willing and Waiting, Broken Chair and I'm sure there is a few songs left that we've heard nothing about yet

Make or Break is supposed to be amazing, but very unfinished. Who cares, I just want to hear it.

Yeah, it seems Branca (and the estate in general) just say whatever suits them at the time. I'm pretty sure he recently said that the Will.I.Am tracks don't even exist. Which we know is crap, he has also said many provably false things in the past.

Re: What's the next "holy grail" of unreleased MJ songs?

I think the will.i.am songs are the "holy grail" because we still have no idea how much material that they actually made together, finished or not.

Personally, I wanna see Can't Get Your Weight Off Me be released one day, but the fact that we all know it exists in the first place means it's not "holy grail"-worthy (in my opinion)

Re: What's the next "holy grail" of unreleased MJ songs?

Agreed it'll most likely be something I have never heard at this point. Stuff he was working on when he died is a must for me. No matter how unfinished it may be.

Re: What's the next "holy grail" of unreleased MJ songs?

The next holy grail for me is Victory with Freddie Mercury.

There were only 20 songs up for inclusion on Bad 25. Michael wrote and recorded around 60 demos between 1983-87, but they weren’t all on the table in 2012. (Plus, they all aren’t complete or nearly complete. Some, like “Make or Break,” are just chorus vocals.)

Michael only sings the chorus of “Willing and Waiting” — the verses are Babyface. It sounds like either it was meant for a Babyface album, or Michael just never finished the vocals.

Also, I have massive doubts about a finished version of “Man in Black” existing. Bryan Loren is far from a trustworthy source unfortunately.

Re: What's the next "holy grail" of unreleased MJ songs?

Agreed, Bryan isn't trustworthy. Weird he'd just bring a version without vocals to a seminar when a version with full vocals supposedly exists.

Wait, how do you know what the song sounds like?

That's exactly what I thought. That paired with his whole "I actually wrote the rap to 'Black or White,' and Michael copied my production style for several songs on HIStory and Invincible" issue turned me away from him completely.

Re: What's the next "holy grail" of unreleased MJ songs?

For me, preferring stuff from 2001 onwards

-The apparently 'gothic' songs
-Michael Prince /Brad Buxer stuff
-RedOne
-Will.i.am
-unknown gems, latest version of released demos
-classical album
-movie soundtracks which were scrapped

Yes, maybe everyone should just stop posting lol.

Thanks for the info as always mate. I remember somebody mentioned that Willing and Waiting was one of Brad Sundberg's favourites

It can be easily deduced that a finished version of the ‘Man In Black’ song exists.

Apart from Bryan Loren who confirmed that, there is also Chris Cadman and Craig Halstead who described it as an unreleased song, which suggests that a finished version of it exists.

Also, Bill Bottrell used to endlessly listen to that song through the doors at Record One Studios, and he described the song as cool, which again suggests that a finished version of it exists.

‘Man In Black’ was among the few, new songs for the ‘Decade’ album, and this also means that Michael Jackson finished that song at one point in order to include it on that album.

About ‘Willing And Waiting’, this song was not meant for a Babyface album.

While ‘Willing And Waiting’ was being developed during the ‘HIStory’ album sessions, it became clear to everybody that it did not fit the hard theme of the ‘HIStory’ album, hence its exclusion from the album.

The reason was that ‘Willing And Waiting’ was a musically and lyrically soft song.

Brad Sundberg spoke about that song:

“A very pretty song - but I think Michael was looking to push things pretty hard on ‘HIStory’, ‘Willing And Waiting’ was maybe a bit softer than the direction he was going” (Brad Sundberg)

Although ‘Willing And Waiting’ exists in a demo form, it can be considered musically and lyrically a finished song (the only problem is that Babyface sings some parts of it as a vocal guide).

I understand that completely, but surely they can entertain themselves in the plethora of threads we have on this topic, instead of starting another thread?

Yes, maybe everyone should just stop posting lol.

You know very well that isn't what I meant. It isn't difficult to bump up other threads on unreleased songs and continue to contribute to those threads, by having fruitful discussions in them.

Re: What's the next "holy grail" of unreleased MJ songs?

Beautiful Girl was worked on until 2008 and was on his list pinned to his mirror for possible inclusion on the new album.

I only ever made this thread because I assumed there were rules against necrobumping. None of the unreleased song threads have been updated in months, and I thought that posting in an old thread would have consequences.
