Thriller 40th Anniversary

I mean compressed 480p on YouTube doesn't still looking good on a phone. And who is watching Michael's short films on a phone ;D
Like everybody who is under 30! Young people are always 'on the go', they don't have time to sit down and watch a high quality film on big screen.

There are no individual letters clearly identifiable yet I'm perfectly capable of reading the words on that screenshot. Does this mean I am a genius?
No, it just means you are a fan. Don't worry you are not a genius 🤓

Watching those short films in crystal 4K will be like watching them for the first time.. new details never seen before.. it gets me giddy with excitement

We could get 2 discs of silence for all I care.. that will be the real preservation of MJs legacy.. his work in quality the future generations can enjoy forever

The same folks who go to a concert and film it on their phone to upload the footage on Youtube/TikTok. With shaky video, muddy sound, and if the concert is outdoors - wind noise. 😃A lot of people today watch entire movies on their phone. Some people film parts of new movies at the theater and put them on Youtube or other sites to try to spoil the movie for people who haven't seen it. Or to show crowd reactions if it's Marvel or something

Now that you mention WBSS 2008 I remember how I wished he rerecorded the album again with modern production and new vocals.

Similar to what Taylor Swift did to one of her albums (Red?)

I'm not sure if you have followed any of what's been going on with Taylor's masters but she didn't just re-record one random album. She's currently in the process re-recording her first 6 albums which were originally released under the Big Machine record label and the rights to which she doe not own. Her masters were sold to record executive Scooter Braun, whom Taylor has had conflict with in the past and whom she feels purchased her catalogue as a power move over her. Her goal is to have all of her albums under her current label (Republic) and under her ownership.

She has currently re-recorded and released Fearless and Red. It doesn't seem that she is re-recording her albums in any particular order.

Shortfilms to be (finally) released in 4K (BJ 1080p?) already makes T40 a good release IMO.

Just to get these iconic music videos in best possible quality - and finally knowing they are now preserved in high quality for eternity is great.

So even if disc 2 fails to amaxe I will be happy with this release, just because of 4K videos.

Should there be new songs on disc 2 this release can turn out great really. - Maybe even a new doc? like for B25 and OTW? - One can dream :)

When the 4K videos are released on youtube - is it by any chance possible to chnage the current low-quality version with the 4K version to not loose the views?

Or will they have to upload them as totally new videos and then the views will start from 0 ?

Yep. Eminem did this with his anniversary remasteted videos.

E.g.

Be cool to see if the effort has gone into the 4K shorts - and not just AI upscale like other artists/groups have done, especially if they include Beat It & Billie Jean (Shot on 16mm but can still be scanned at 4K, of course.).. maybe we can finally have hope the negs won't rot anymore and future generations can see the genius in the quality he deserves and spent money on capturing.

Only if they do it the correct way. But what if they're gonna apply extreme DNR?
If they remove the grain, it will be like taking a dump on a wedding cake. Let's just hope they know what they are doing...

I don't mind that they reused the old cover art, but the new logo sucks. Thriller 25's logo was much better.
True, but Thriller 25 (as a project) was cap. Full of cap!It is even worse than the Michael album 0-0......
The,, bonus material,, consisted just of remixes of old hits and covers of Thriller era songs by some modern ,,artists,, that happened to be famous, back in 2008. Those particular artists could have relesead those subpar covers(except for Akon's cover of WBSS) as their own songs, since that stuff was anything but ,,new music,, from Michael Jackson! What a ,,comeback,, .....
They even remixed the demos of PYT and The Girl is Mine and made them sound like some Will.i.Am songs. Those unrelesead demos completely lost Mike's musical touch.I don't know if to laugh or cry about it lol
And there were no unrelesead songs recorded during the Thriller era !None! It's abysmal and ridiculous.(For All Time was written during the Thriller sessions, but was recorded during the Dangerous sessions. And that was the only new song on the entire thing, since only Japan got ,,Got The hots ,,....)
I hope Thriller 40 will actually be decent or great (like the amazing Bad 25)

what about Carousel and Got The Hots?

also, no project can be worse than Michael
Other than 3 songs there's nothing worth keeping in there
Carousel was already relesead on the 2001 special edition.
And Got The Hots was mostly available only in Japan, during the ,,Thriller 25,, era
At least the Michael album had 7 new songs tho

Carousel was already relesead on the 2001 special edition.
However, the 2001 version is a short edit.
The full song (without the beat count intro) was released in 2008 on the Italian edition of "King of Pop".

What I am hopefully of the promotion for Thriller 40 is that they may use VR into it. Let's wait and see.
I saw Maxwell rendition of lady in my I
Life and although I love the fact he respects and idolises Michael it just goes to show Michael's vocals are on other level.

Spike Lee’s documentaries for Bad and Off The Wall were very underwhelming so I hope he stays as far as he can from the Thriller Documentary.
And why not give someone else another shot if there is another documentary. I don't see why it always has to be Spike Lee behind them. And what stories can be said about Thriller that we haven't heard before? Like the story of how Rod Temperton wrote the rap for the title track at the last moment on his way to the studio. Or the story of how Bruce Swedian did around 100 mixes of Billie Jean only for Michael to choose the 2nd mix or made. Or the story of how Eddie Van Halen hung up on Quincy because he didn't believe it was him.

So much as been said about Thriller that I don't know how much more could be said.

Or how someone knocked on the door of the studio while they were recording Beat It and they decided to keep that on the record.
