"Michael", a biopic about Michael Jackson, is officially happening.

Maybe they will make it a 3 hour film? What are the chances? How much of the general public would sit through a 3 hour MJ film? I would think his life was interesting enough lol

Would be cool but I very much doubt it. It'll probably be shorter than most of us would want, tbh.

The only way that could be done is to make it a TV movie instead of a theatrical one like the movies about The Jacksons (2 nights), The Temptations (2 nights), & New Edition (3 nights). Technically Bobby Brown had 5 nights, with both the New Edition and his 2 night solo career biopic. Bobby was played by the same actor in both. A biopic isn't like Harry Potter or something, where a lot of people will go to a theater to watch 2 or more parts.

It's nice to finally have such a popular and trending type of product, we haven't had one since This Is It?
All my friends (some mildly interested in MJ, others who don't even know much about him) are talking about it and are very curious to see it.

Bad 25 was a failure from a sales standpoint, Xscape started well but once the CD came out it pretty much went into oblivion, let's not talk about the anniversary of Off The Wall... for Thriller 40 the publicity campaign was minimal and only fans knew about it. That's why I'm happy to see people I know talking about a new Michael Jackson project for the first time in many years.

It depends where you look but, sure, yeah. This along with Cirque are positive. MJ did cosign this idea and it does highlight how this probably is more interesting than "just more demoes". Though I'd rather have the latter, I look forward to this.

They might audition them together for some type of chemistry. Though we'll probably skip the dramatic years of their relationship that the Jacksons Drama loved, with smashing bottles and what not.
 
Do you think Michael's brothers will play a big, if any, role? I don't think they would be potrayed in a negative way since Jaafar is Jermaine's son, but I hope they will not be put in a too positive light.

They better not show his brothers crashing his gate to save him from the drugs when we all know it was to beg him to go on tour!

I doubt it , they will be part of the film but they will be minor characters, it's about Michael, not his brothers.

Unless Jermaine gets his wicked way so they include the Motown split drama 🤣

There won't be enough time to cover the Jacksons stuff.

Having MJ in the room with his brothers while they do things with groupies would be, a pretty compelling scene.

I feel it would be very important to show it, because that and Joseph's cheating on his mother in his face explain why Michael wasn't sleeping around with groupies the way other rock stars do. If they showed that story about young MJ telling Rhonda not to go with Jackie and having to comfort her when she was crying afterwards, people would understand that the reason why MJ wasn't sleeping around had nothing to do with asexuality or having a preference for little boys.

The American Dream miniseries was a completely separate thing made 30 years ago, so they can't treat the biopic as if it were a follow-up. Most people who will see the biopic will not have watched the American Dream miniseries beforehand. I know a lot of people in this thread have said they think they should just cover his childhood very quickly and focus on the adult part of his life, but I feel like the audience will not be able to understand Michael unless they first cover his childhood properly. Of course the fans already know about his childhood, but the biopic will not only be watched by fans. How is the audience supposed to understand things like Neverland, Michael's relationship with children and his crying over his lost childhood if they don't know what he went through as a child? There are so many things in his adult life that can be understood simply by looking at his childhood. Even his insomnia, which ultimately led to his death, was most likely partly caused by his childhood. Staying up all night to sing in bars, jet lag from touring, being kept awake by Jermaine sleeping with groupies... how was he supposed to develop a good sleep pattern after all that?
 
^^^^ I get what you're trying to say but you have to remember that this film will be between 2 to 3 hours long.... that's it.

It's impossible to cover everything without the movie becoming overwhelming and simply too much to digest, it's gotta be entertaining.

They will cover Michael's childhood but you need to be realistic.

The music, the dancing, plastic surgeries, controversies, child abuse allegations. Drug taking etc - this film should be a two part.

The audience wants to be entertained , it can't be a 3 hour Wikipedia biography.

Thing is i dont think the ordinary people will go and see it , mostly fans as most people are too narrow minded to see it

excatly it cant cover all of michael's life that will like more than 3 hours!
 
Nobody said devote a whole hour to MJs childhood. But if you're developing a compassionate narrative on MJs life, showing a lot of the horrid things 11 year old MJ went through is a key way to do it. It doesn't even have to be in depth. You could cover all that in a literal montage.

I don't want an MJ film all about the allegations either. Save that for Netflix.

I'd be really glad if it's included. It's probably the best Jacksons song and it's probably the best bridge between The Jacksons and Michael's solo career

As for Damien's comments, I wouldn't be surprised if the biopic is mostly 70's to early 90's, the reason being Jaafar doesn't resemble his uncle in the 90's as he's like 15-20 years younger.
I can see the biopic ending on the Superbowl
