The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

What puzzles me most regarding the whole Shut Up and Dance leak is that Rodrigo Teaser (a very popular and proeminent brazilian MJ Impersonator) has talked about this song during a podcast in 2022 (
https://www.mjjcommunity.com/thread...he-unreleased-track-shut-up-and-dance.200452/ )
and how Michael Prince let him listen to a snippet of it. I really believe he heard Michael there, especially now that we've heard several mixes from Eric Kirkland and his MJ impression is alright, but not enough to fool us, MJ diehard fans. I don't know, just sharing some thoughts here that we might not know the whole picture of the recording process of it (maybe MJ did a vocal scratch take back in 2008?)
It's interesting that right at the end of that interview Rodrigo mentions that the song was still planned to be released one day, Michael Prince and Eric Kirkland must've been meaning on handing it over to another artist if MJ never recorded the song. I can only imagine this leak especially is gonna hurt MP most lol.

It doesn't surprise me that Michael didn't finish this song; it doesn't sound terribly exciting. I think there's a lot of better material slumbering in the archives.

Everything will leak in the end but most of them are bored af, like Adore You and Water is just a loop. Among the songs expected to leak, only Rocker is exciting (Because the song is "almost" finished.) I don’t want to call the others trash, but they are.
don't forget Neverland Landing :)

Was waiting for someone to mention this lol. I couldnt remember which impersonator it was.
I'm not TOO surprised honestly i recall a super fan who heard Jungle in seminar and claimed it was Michael when i'm pretty sure there is no version that isn't Freeze but i could be mistaken. Brad had Jungle on his list of songs he did with MJ for some reason despite MJ really having never touched it from my understanding.

The song itself isn't bad, I was talking about the sound being dated (we only have the demo to go by but it doesn't sound like it was going in any new direction)
Yeah thats what i've been saying about alot of the songs MJ worked on in the 2000s, they sound so incredibly dated for the time. Like compare the final MJ version of HT to the 2010 one its crazy how much more modern the 2010 one is, the 2008 one sounds like its from the same period as the version from nearly decade prior. It's so fascinating to me how these songs MJ worked on for so long still sounded dated while he also was seemingly wanting to lean into the 2000s/Early 2010s sound with producers like Rodney, RedOne and will.i.am. Only explanation I could think of (other than that he didn't creatively evolve much past the late 90s which ive seen some people piss their pants in anger over lol) is maybe he was going to remix the songs at the last second prior to release but that really doesn't make much sense imo. The entire streak of tracks from like 2002 - 2009 i would LOVE an entire multi-hour documentary/podcast on but that'll never happen.

The Teddy remix sounds so bad imo, but I love the demo.
Yeah it seems this take is pretty common, i always loved that version but the vocal mix is sooo bizarre. Especially on the start of the 3rd verse it sounds like he's drowning lol. My point was it does sound MUCH more for the time than the original version, despite being made only 2 years later.

The weird vocal filter towards the end of Hollywood Tonight is very strange. It's on the leaked Neff-U alternate mix as well.

Something was clearly messed up when editing the vocal lol.

I think MJ choosing Brad Buxer as his primary collaborator throughout the 2000s didn’t help much as far as artistic evolution goes. I adore Buxer and mean no disrespect, but he has a very specific sound/aesthetic that started to feel dated by the mid-decade. I think Neff-U, Akon, RedOne, and will.i.am were the people MJ should’ve spent more time with. “Hold My Hand,” for example, isn’t a groundbreaking song, but it was undeniably modern and showed that MJ could keep up.

That said, I think it’d highly unlikely that the final versions would resemble the demos. MJ likely would’ve done what he did with “Jam” and “Dangerous,” and have a producer give them a modern facelift. Alas.

Buxer was not going to be a hit maker. The music is nice, but it's not anything that was going to get MJ back on top of the charts.

Will.I.Am, RedOne, Ne-Yo, that was the best bet to get him back with hits.

Finally some folks mentioning that..
you can hear it more clearly when checking out the a capella that was inverted from the album version.

At first i thought that was a result from the acapella filtering but later I noticed that this is also in the actual song…

But if you listen to the „throwback mix“ it’s not there… so the raw vocals were available but not for Teddy ? 😅

Are you talking about the BG vocals? "Westbound Greyhound to Tinseltown, To pursue her movie star dreams"

I think they are referring to the weird vocal effect in the verse after the bridge. The vocal goes back to normal on the word "jeans". It's not there in the Throwback Mix

Now I hear it too. It's not in the dry vocals. The whole song is butchered with weird effects. Also mixed very weirdly, even the demo (original version).

Nah
They had two decades before the leak.
Putting that aside, I really don't think SUAD should be released with another artist's vocals. I really can't imagine anyone else singing like that, only MJ and Erik. It should be released as is, as a tribute.
