Anyone else feeling depressed about "Michael"?

Quote :
"What I'm talking about the changed lyrics of Hollywood Tonight! That they cut out the "Because she's only fifteen" part!"

Are there different versions of the album and booklets? On mine it is not cut out!

In the booklet that line is there. But listen to the song! It's cut out!

I am not depressed about "Michael" because I love this album. But I am very depressed about what's going on around the album with the vocals dicussions etc.

These are my thoughts exactly. I'm more depressed with all the controversies than with the album itself. And of course with Michael not being here with us anymore... :(
I love to hear his voice in a new material - it gives me goosebumps as always. I wish these controversies would stop for once and for all....
Did the Family say something officially ater the release of the album? (I mean any statement about the authenticity of vocals? )

Fiona...what I'm about to reiterate here is only going to make you sadder, but I'm saying it anyway as others have in this post, because the shock of the words always jolts me back into a reality that trivializes much of everything else, and that is …MICHAEL IS GONE. When I say those words aloud, that puts everything else back in perspective. The controversy over this new album gets smacked down to a level of inconsequence in comparison. Michael is gone. His legacy stopped being shaped on June 25, 2009. This new album signifies that.

Like I think everyone, I had anxiously looked forward to the album believing it would provide work that Michael had creatively and technically fully COMPLETED and just decided not to issue at the time for whatever reasons of his own. Apparently, that’s not the case. Okay, so I know that now. That hurts. My expectations were high, helped along of course by the label, and my own excitement. But Michael is gone. Everything that is produced now is coincidental and only as consequential as I choose to make it. Who provides the material, be it the Cascios, former collaborators or producers doesn’t really matter. It’s all going to be pieced together work, with a lot of MJ or very little. That’s the revelation. I know now I need to adjust my expectations for future releases or do away with them entirely, and either check out what is released and decide one way or another if I like it, or not bother with it at all.

Michael definitely released songs over his career that did absolutely nothing for me. So what? He and his brilliance gave me so much, it just doesn’t matter. I’ve listen to his music for most of my life and now can go to youtube and relive his performances again and again and go WOW! WOW! WOW! Before I know it, I'm grinning from ear to ear, or singing with him. or am up dancing. That's what Michael gave me. An unbelievable joy that just blows me away. He’s gone now, and no one is taking what he gave me away from me, not the media, not the label, not controversy, and not this album.

Please keep all this stuff in perspective. I’d love if there were decades more work of finished MJ, but if that’s not the case, we have so much of him to be grateful for, even beyond his work. Can you even imagine never having had him in our lifetimes? Now that would be unbearably depressing.

Thanks so much for this post.
Yes, our expectations were too high.
The real Michael Jackson legacy was built until June 25, 2009.
And I love it.
Nothing can break our bond with him. Unless we let them break it.

The album itself doesn't depress me, I love how we have new music from Michael to enjoy. What depresses me is the situation. Never did I contemplate when they were releasing posthumous 2-Pac albums when I was growing up that in a decade I'd be having to endure that with my hero. It never even came into my mind that Michael would pass away, to me he was Superman and was always there no matter what. Him passing shaked the foundations of my life. I felt like this safe blanket had suddenly been ripped away from me and I was exposed to the harsh realities of this world. It depresses me that new music would be released and that he wouldn't be around to see it happening and on his terms. Michael deserves the best and I just wish he was here. The past couple months the pain of losing Michael has bubbled back to the surface and it's been a struggle. Again the main thing that depresses me is that he's not here.

oooh i see so Michael's legacy stopped being built the day he died.... Interesting. so because hes dead his legacy is ended? Makes no sense to me how you can say that?

Fiona you've come this far, and now you are ready to leave him when he needs you most? Please, this album is his gift to us. It is his work, his heart and soul. It is beautiful. Don't let outside sources let you stop your love for him. Michael is always worth it. Always. " we are forever" "I am forever" listen to Best of Joy.

I know this controversy has had me very depressed, angry, ashamed and sad that Michael's own fans are against his own work.

What helps me through it is listening to his music. My gosh I just can't help but smile when I listen to this treasure trove of music. Just magic. I've listened to it multiple times and I never get tired. I just love it!

I played it to my students as part of our little Xmas celebration before break, and we all danced to the songs, and they love it, love it! I've been playing HMH, and they love it too!
All those things have lifted my spirits and I thank Michael for everything he has given us. Sooner or later ppl will realize what a remarkable piece of work this is. It is THAT Good! Love it!:D

Que?? No entiendo. So any songs that we will have after that date don't matter at all? You are not making any sense at all. All of his songs matter. TODOS. They are all HIS SONGS. Es su voz, su escritura y su esfuerzo. No entiendo algunas veces los fanaticos to Michael. :(

The whole crux of all the controversy is they are not HIS songs or are versions he was not sufficiently satsified with to release himself. That being the case, how they matter is how you personally feel about them. If you llike them, fine. But on the whole, how can they be recognized or "matter" as legitmate contributions to Michael's legacy, when only Michael made the decision as to what he wanted out there to represent him?

Suppose, there was a song that was absolutely horrible in most people's opinion, but had some MJ in it. Should that song matter? It would certainly detract from his legacy. I'm not even talking about any song on the current album, because I happen to like it. But in general terms, can anybody who has some MJ vocals on record, synthesize them, autotune them, etc. and lay claim they have merit.

If you like songs since June 25, you should enjoy them. But it's not possible for them to be completely reflective of him, because they are without his final input.

Then what do people want then regarding his songs or songs with him after he died? Would people just be happy hearing demos and unfinished songs or songs Michael did finish but didn't make the albums in the past? I am confused. I know a lot of things are not just about the vocals on some songs. There are people who don't want to hear songs that Michael didn't finish. I find it hard to know what the right thing to do with things. I wish Michael was here.

Is it true that every single time something good is happening or a deal is made by the estate someone in the family is all negative. Every time. Depending on what it is, it changes who complains but someone always does. As a fan I find that quite annoying. I believe there is a reason Michael made the decisions in his will and I do respect that.

Without being to judgemental it is clear to me the reasons the Jacksons are being like they are.

I think you need to realise that no matter what the estate do the Jackson family will never support it, why I hear you say because they want the Estate they want control and the fact they do not have it they will never support what the estate do, it is without doubt that even if they do right the Jackson family will spin it to be wrong and try to destroy it.

I think you need to realise that fact and look at a better way in which to choose your reason for not being happy, because if you rely on them you may as well give up now.

I ask each and every fan, WHY DID MICHAEL WRITE HIS FAMILY OUT OF HIS WILL, the very man we are here for did not want the Jacksons to control his estate. WHY IS THAT

THAT IS FACT

How about as Michael Jackson fans we respect him and his wishes.

Sorry but I get really aggravated as to why we as Michael's fans ignore his wishes or why we are not even respecting his wishes.

THANK YOU, GAZ, excellent post! :clapping:

Yes

The family are out to derail/destroy every thing.

Why, because they have no control nor do they make any money of it.

And that aggravates them.

That's very sad. They are not thinking about Michael at all.

I've made up my mind. I'm not going to pay attention to what ANY Jackson says from now on (apart from his mother and of course, of course, his gorgeous children (just wanted to point that out in case someone thought I meant them :mello:) ).

They have simply lost all credibility in my eyes. From how they exploited him with "tributes" to clearly not reading the autopsy results to insulting and attacking his estate and those lawyers (who, by the way, have done a job so amazing that none of them can do) and just generally causing us all to fall apart.

Drama. Drama.

I'll ignore them all from now on.

Michael may have written his siblings and his father out of his will, but he never wrote Katherine out. I believe Michael trusted Katherine and I think her love for her son is pure and without an agenda (unlike other members of the family).

Katherine has said that she believes some songs on the album are fake. I don't think she would lie about that, after all, she has no reason to be bitter about Michael's will.

What if the kids came forward in years to come and claimed the songs were fake? Would we be doubting their motives too? Don't forget, the kids were with Michael when he stayed with the Cascio's in 2007. Prince and Paris are probably the only ones who might actually know the truth, but if they came forward and spoke out fans will be saying "oh, those poor kids have been brainwashed by that evil family."

Michael's mother and his children are the only people who I feel I can completely trust when it comes to Michael. They loved him dearly and however strongly we might feel about upholding Michael's legacy, I'm sure they feel it even more passionately than us.

I think MJ would be truly disappointed with his mother. The fact that she's working with a porn producer and that she exploited MJ's kids on the Oprah show. Mike would not be cool with that at all. I have no doubt she loved her son, but her actions have been very questionable.

I don't think so. Anybody who believes that Katherine wanted to exploit her grandchildren is way too cynical. I agree that Michael wouldn't have approved about Oprah, but I think Katherine is a good soul, just trying her best to deal with this whole situation. Don't forget this poor woman probably has dozens of lawyers/family members/businessmen whispering in her ear day and night.

Even if we don't agree, I think she believes she's doing what's right for those children.

Remember with Katherine though she is not an heir to the estate, she is a benficiary. Michael made sure that she was provided for for the rest of her life but she has no say in how the estate is run. The Estate is there to provide for her living expenses until she passes. It is the kids who are the heirs of the estate and even they don't have the power to make decisions about the estate until they are 40.

I am afraid to say, Katherine is being controlled. And Michael knew this would happen thus she is not an heir only a beneficiary.

I am sorry to say but Katherine inviting Oprah into her house for her to grill the children all credibility went straight out of the window for me, Michael would be so so livid if he knew and that to me is contempt for him and his memory. and as and MJ fan leader my loyalty is to Michael.

Totally agree Gaz!!

My loyalty is totally for Michael too. He put his trust in the estate and so do I.

I think the right thing to do is go by your own instincts, personal feelings, and wants. If you listen to this album and you like it, you should like it. If you think it's a fraud and want no parts of it, you should dismiss it.

If you want a demo or prefer a finished product, even with it being finished via the vision of others, that's fine, too. No one should dictate to you how you should feel about any of this. If we as Michael fans allowed that to happen, we'd have believed all the garbage they spewed out there about him.

The great thing about the vast size of MJ's fan base is the diversity of opinion and perspective. MJ's fans really make you THINK. I totally agree with you that with so many viewpoints that it can all get confusing, but even in that confusion, you're absorbing the comments, mentally assimilating them with your own thoughts (even if those thoughts aren't completely formed yet) and at some point, you find yourself mentally accepting some things, and dismissing others. So that's what I think you should go with. The conclusion you shape for yourself. Be it after reading and hearing as much as you want to read and hear, or just going with something because instinctively it's the right thing for you. It may not be in agreement with the majority, but it doesn't have to be, especially when it comes to something as totally subjective as music.

I like this album. Didn't like Breaking News at all when I first heard it because of its subject matter (it just reminded me too much of junk MJ went through again). But I've played the album so much now, even BN is growing on me.

BUT...because of all the controversy about how much is or isn't MJ on the album as a whole, I now have become addicted to him singing alcapello. I guess it's because it just connects me to MJ raw, no enhancements by anyone, just MJ, doing for me what no other artist does to his level. So as much as I do like this new album, I'd like to hear a raw demo as well. So I may be all over the place in my likes and dislikes on this subject. I feel it's allowed for me. And it's allowed for you.
"
P.S. I had to add this alcapello of MJ on "Remember the Time. I never thought I'd love it as much as the finished product, but I seem to like it better now.

Gaz - that is a great observation I never thought of it that way. I always thought she is controlled byJoe, but- duh:doh:- like you say Michael of course knew that.

My loyalty is totally for Michael too. He put his trust in the estate and so do I.

Yes, and so do I. I will always trust Michael's wishes.

One point to add, like many in this thread I don't trust the family. They have lost all credibility. Actions speak louder than words, and their actions have been very questionable if not despicable. What got me very upset was his own mother's desparaging comments about his health and his appearance, I just can't get over that- no one told her to say that, it just came from her.

I am here for Michael and his 3 kids. I will defend him till the end of the earth. I respect Michael's wishes in his last will and testament. He trusted his executors and I therefore trust them. Everything they have put forth so far including the Sony contract and ALL the projects they have executed thus far, Michael I know would be very very proud and happy. They have been very careful to honor and respect his legacy. I have nothing but appreciation for what they have done. I wish there was a way to communicate that to them. Is there Gaz?:D

never been easy. Since Michael broke all records with Thriller there have been this feeling in the media that they need to stop him. It is not okay that someone can be that good, that great, that brilliant and that fantastic. We live in a world where many don’t want others to succeed, especially if they have something against this person. At that time, there is no denying that racism was a big part of the world. After that, it just kept going and it became worse and worse. Michael still made great music, still broke records and the media kept going at it.

Let’s be clear about a few things, I don’t think this album would have sounded the way it does, or been the way it is if Michael was still here with but, BUT that’s where many of us keep going wrong I think, we can’t keep thinking like that, because, as much as it hurts to say, he is not here anymore. The music we will get now is not gonna be Michaels music in the same way as it was when he was alive, but how could it, he’s not here anymore. All we can do is the best with what we have, and this is what we have now. I rather hear these songs (I really like most of them ) enjoy them than not hearing them at all.
The most important thing is that we keep going, we have so much work to do, until the day we die. The fact is, there are still so many people out there that believe the media over Michael, that still work against him, that wants the world to forget about him. Our job has just started, we need to make sure the truth gets out there and that the world will remember him ALWAYS as the greatest we ever had. We need to make sure that the generation after and after will know the truth and keep that going.

The truth is, in a few years, probably sooner than we think, we will not be that many people around here and other pages, we will all somehow “move on” in a way, never forgetting, always loving Michael, but don’t feel the same fighting spirit we do now. But that’s why we need to keep going even stronger now when we’re so many still here. This is an album that always will be associated with Michael Jackson, we need to make sure that it will in somehow be looked at in a positive way.

At the end of the day, all we have is each other and Michael’s legacy. We’re still here, Michael is not, we can still make a difference, Michael can’t in the same way he did before, we can still let people know the truth, Michael can’t, we can still make sure that the world will know the real Michael, that his children will face a world that is less ignorance about their father that when he was still here. We can do it, we just have to stay together, and never ever let go.

I miss him every day, I think about him every day, I will always do that, I still cry over him, but I have promise myself to always make “everything Michael” into something positive because that is what I think he would have wanted and that is how I feel we can make a difference.
I know many here are not religious and that is okay, I’m not saying anything about that. But Michael has said many times that he got his strength from reading the Bible, and from his mother, I get it from reading the Bible and from Michael. Wherever you get it from, let’s just keep going….

the way its been handled doesnt impress me and its annoying and to some extent upsetting for 5 mins as to what the album has become.it would have been nice for abit of joy through all the pain and having abit of sucess and no crazyness but some things never change. but no it doesnt depress me because this isnt the old days. this isnt getting upset when YRMW only got to number 2.becasue at the end of the day theres far more important issues to be depressed and upset about. god dont we all wish all we had to worry about was an album release. if only we could go back to those days
