- The problems of the education system are very simple to solve and everyone knows it. But no one will do anything because it would mean spend more money in that department and its not trendy.
Teachers are not motivated, a lot of them get into that career just because they think they'll have lots of vacation, and dont know they wont be paid for them. The school day is a complete idiocy which doesnt respect the kids biorythm; what we have to teach them is totally dumb and boring for kids that age; not to mention useless. The school year is equally stupid. Kids are unhappy and tired. We, as teachers, are tired, unhappy and stressed out. And we are treated like 4 year olds by dumb ass supervisors, who expect us to deal with all the shit kids go through psychologiocally, emotionally, physically. Its surreal and impossible to do.

-The vast majority of politicians get into politics because they want to be remembered, and have power. End of.

You are not paid for the holidays? I didn't know that. What happens in summer so? No salary for July and August?
 
Many teachers dont even know. Actually your salary is x10, then divided by 12. This way we get money each month, but we still have a salary based on 10 months out of 12.
Please feel free to spread the info bc its tiring to be seen as those lazy people always on vacation. Right. The kids are. I have the exact same amount of paid vacation as anyone else.

Ben you once told me that in your class there is a range of ages, this surprised me as this does not happen in the UK and I still can't really see how it is practically possible, you are one person after all and teaching a large class of differing ages and abilities. Do you think it works well or is it challenging?

I can't believe that. Teachers are very important and you have just 10months pay per year? That's not normal. I know a guy,he's a friend of N. , he's a teacher of english in the suburb of Paris and he tols us his salary and he earns 1300euros per month.

I was shocked when he told me his salary, he's a teacher in collège and lycée.I couldn't believe that I earn more, not too much but still, more than a teacher, me a Pastry Chef. C'est dingue.

^^^ Monsieur N. got an answer for that lol , so I post what he says about this :

When he was in CM1 in France, he was in a class where half of the students were like him in CM1, the other half was in CM2. So the teacher had 2 class at the same time. I didn't know there is still class like this now in France.

For english, I don't know what is CM1 for you, in France you're 8 or 9years old if I remember in CM1.
 
Well usually, we have just one grade to teach. But when there are not "enough" students or teachers, we have combined classes with 2 or 3 grades.
For the teacher, its exhausting, because you have to prepare double work for the day. In the neighborhood I teach in, its the dumbest thing ever. Some of our students dont even speak french correctly, they have social, emotional, psychological problems. In these combined classes, you have much less time for kids who have difficulties. But hey, who cares, as long as it saves money, right?

As for the kids, it all depends on the teacher, whether he's willing or able to be organized. It can be OK, but usually, its not.

On a side note, I think no population hates and despises their teachers as the french do. On the other hand, if they had any idea what is going on for real in the school system, there would be the 2d french revolution.
 
So do the general public blame the teachers if they feel something is lacking in their childs education?

I get a little frustrated here with class sizes, the largest being about 32 to a class with one teacher and usually a class room assistant, but only in the younger years. I have found that it is more and more important for the parents to take up the slack at home which is fine for us parents at home but must be hard if you are working full time.

I have never here heard anyone here blames the teachers, for me I blame the government who open the flood gates but don't expand or invest in the schools. Exactly the same principle applies within the NHS, honestly I am amazed that anybody would chose to be a nurse here, it must really be a calling.
 
People hate us because they think we're well paid (mwahaha), and always on vacation or on strike. Of course, no one bothered checking WHY we were on strike so often, because it generally has nothing to do with money. The only advantage I have is that I cant be fired, which I grant you that, is not bad, especially with the economy we have.
The dark side of this is there are, IMHO, many dumb a** people who decide to be teachers for the very wrong reasons and do a sh!tty job. They didnt realize its not like going to the office, you're working with people, and even "worse", young people. Anyhoo, this subject usually makes me want to punch a wall.

I couldnt agree more on who to blame. But like I told my supervisor, the department of education doesnt give a flying fuck about kids anyway. In what other country would the people in the tourist business decide when the vacations should be? For real?

How can you not be fired though, surely if you are not doing a reasonable job, or are unsafe to teach, then you are pulled up and if necessary fired?
 
Its really hard to become a teacher, the conditions have become incredibly difficult, in terms of education requirements. Still its a real cushy number for many people because of the vacation time. And the fact you're a civil servant, so its a job for life. It would need me to do something REALLY serious to be fired.
Personally its something I'm against, especially when I see the kind of lousy job some (too many) of my colleagues are doing. We have supervisors coming to see what you do, like once every 3 years. These people havent had students for years, their comments are so dumb I have to bite my lips not to say anything (although lately I dont a crap anymore). So they give you a grade (!!) on which will depend your (laaaame) promotion. Of course, in these days of we-have-to-save-money-so-we-cant-raise-salaries, strangely, we all do a crappy work. Like I care.

1) Interesting question. I dont really have an answer yet. Am I?
2) I dont know how much I know of the Chef, but yeah, I can say I really like what I know so far.
3) If the man is shocked, he can react himself. I dont think you own someone in a relationship. I'd sure watch what he's doing but I wouldnt interfere. I think it means much more if he pushes her away than if I do.
4) There should be no explanations in sex! Ever! Do what you feel like, but dont write a thesis on it before! lol

- A kid only craves love and someone who will hold his/her hand. It doesnt matter if they're single, 2 guys or 2 women. Thats a ridiculous idea. And in my job, I've seen so many kids emotionally crushed by good ol' heterosexual couples...

- I dont have a favorite color. I love light mostly. The way the rays of the sun can go through the leaves of a tree, or through the ocean, the way it lights up the blue of the sky. Its hypnotizing.

Life is really weird, but you have to trust it, and above all things, learn to let go of things. Society has a way of pressuring you into thinking you should have, do or think certain things at a certain age. Its so wrong.

Believe me, you couldnt be better with all those guys. So much better than the opposite situation. I grew up in a group of guys, and man, those were the days. So much simpler.

I adored to be just with my brothers and cousins, not a problem at all. We were always together outside, building "cabanes" , portuguese people hein, and playing foot.I was good with my bro and cousins.But in my family, I think they don't know how to make girls, 25 cousins, 24 boys, 1 girl.
