Dangerous 25: what would you like to see happen? [UNCONFIRMED]

I'd like to see a tribute to the album including makings of videos and songs and maybe some interviews of people Michael worked with at that time. But if they do release a Dangerous 25 tribute it HAS to include unreleased material, like the BAD 25.

Peace! ?

1 cd with the original album, 1 cd with outtakes and 1 dvd with either a concert or a making of. That will do it for me and would hardly be costly for the estate or sony. They have made so much money posthumously so they can afford to do a project like this. They need to think long term.

Putting together a making-of documentary would certainly be the cheaper option but would also be more time consuming, and could be an utter waste like Off the Wall if there isn't anything particularly interesting to be shown. (I haven't seen anyone comment on what interesting footage exists from the Dangerous sessions, and to my understanding there is very little studio footage.)

Releasing a concert is even riskier. To my understanding it is not possible to put together a Blu-Ray of any concert footage due to a lack of film reels for any show, which means there will be more Wembley-type complaining that the quality is not stellar.

And as far as how much money they've made, keep this in mind: much of the estate's earnings from the past seven years have gone towards paying off Michael's immense mountain of debt, and they still had to sell his share of the Sony/ATV catalog. Michael has not been the monumental money maker Sony was expecting in 2010, though he is certainly making sales.

The most I would anticipate getting is a double-disc CD reissue with some new tunes. A concert is almost surely not happening.

25 years ago... God I'm old! It just does not feel THATTTT long ago.

Hopefully there is something being worked on.

I'm pretty sure they have some concert footage they can release. Not worried about that at all. They have options.

After 2017 is the general consensus that a new contract will be drawn up with Sony and the estate ?

No-one has really commented at all because so little footage of Dangerous' studio sessions have been released (there was a small snippet on Entertainment Tonight about 7 years ago). Theoretically they should exist; after the Thriller sessions where Paul McCartney told him how he wished he recorded more footage of The Beatles in their heyday, Michael began to record a lottttt more of himself working on his projects, which is why there's so much new footage from the Bad era in Bad 25.

I know of other times post-Bad era he heavily recorded the BTS of projects he worked on so the Dangerous recording sessions shouldn't be any different. On top of that, footage from the BTS of Black or White's short film shoot has leaked in the past few months too.

It would be interesting to see footage of 1990 Dangerous sessions. Michael still looked like he did in the Bad era so it would be interesting to see him record Dangerous songs.

I would like to see out takes, studio footage, rehearsals of some sort.. Though a Concert would be nice I see that they would have less of incentive to release a new Dangerous tour since there is one out.. Naturally the thought of concert releases would be ones that have no concert release.. I cannot be mad at that.

I hope Michael or the Estate didn't lose any video tapes where the studio footage is saved in. Damn, the Estate should make an announcement as soon as possible!

Announcement or denial lol! IF nothing is being worked on for Dangerous than let us know so we can move on emotionally lol.. if so, lets get amped

Now that I would buy!!

I'm hoping to see a release of a Dangerous concert we haven't seen before, perferably one of his July shows.

Where The Heck Is Dangerous 25??

Granted they still have plenty of time to announce it but the clock is ticking on releasing Dangerous 25. Anybody have any rumors or innuendos?

Re: Where The Heck Is Dangerous 25??

There is no official news or rumors about it. All is just fan speculation. I hope something happens because a new concert release would be great.

I think it should be a show with BAD and The Way You Make Me Feel. I think it would be pointless to release a show with the same set list as Bucharest

My wishlist for Dangerous 25 goes a little like this...

1. A remastered CD of the original album
2. A second CD full of unreleased songs from the Dangerous era (NO REMIXES!!!)
3. A Blu-ray/DVD of ANY Dangerous Tour concert with Bad/The Way You Make Me Feel (includes Dangerous from 93 leg, In the Closet instrumental from Toulouse and 1993 Super Bowl halftime show as bonus features)
4. A live album of that Dangerous Tour concert
5. Some nice fancy packaging, booklets, etc. like Bad 25

...Uh...that's all I can think of right now...

The Superbowl performance as a bonus would be fantastic. It'd be great to have a good quality copy of it.

At this point, I just want something. Some acknowledgement of Dangerous 25. Even if they just release something digitally. Music, video, whatever. Something.

Exactly. Dangerous is my all-time favorite MJ album and all I want is to see it get some kind of special treatment for its 25th anniversary. Re-release the album with unreleased songs, re-air the Bucharest concert on HBO, ANYTHING!!! ...Although I would like to see them do something similar to Bad 25.

Why I Believe Dangerous 25 Should Happen

So with the 25th anniversary of Dangerous approaching in November 2016, we as MJ fans have all anticipated for a similar release as Thriller 25 and Bad 25 (well, specifically Bad 25) to celebrate the landmark of this historic album. An album which in my opinion is Michael's best ever. I love every song on there. We have all voiced our opinions on what we wanted to see; our "wishlists" as you could call it included remastered CDs of unreleased demos from the Dangerous era or a Blu-ray/DVD of a brand-new, non-Bucharest Dangerous Tour concert.

This year, in 2016, we received a reissue of Michael's album Off the Wall from 1979 simply to release the new Spike Lee documentary. There was no bonus tracks, no demos, no remixes, not even a little bonus DVD with the music videos for "DSTYGE", "RWY" and "SOOML". It was nothing more than a CD of the original album packaged with a Blu-ray or DVD of the new documentary. As an MJ fan, I bought both versions regardless. But even I understand the flaws with this release. The biggest flaw with this was that Off the Wall was not the album meant to be celebrated this year. That belonged to Dangerous.

Just like Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad, Dangerous had a huge impact on Michael's career. It was his first solo album at Epic without Quincy Jones. He took a huge risk at not just letting him go but also allowing himself to create the new songs in his style and by that, I mean he had the chance to write darker and grittier songs than he had before (i.e. Who Is It, In the Closet) and some expressed his global messages (i.e. Heal the World, Keep the Faith). And when it was released on November 26th, 1991, it went on to become one of the best-selling albums ever made (although as big as Thriller).

If any album needs to be celebrated this year, it should be Dangerous. Not only does it actually have an anniversary coming up, but it also has a bigger impact on not just Michael but us fans. Ask yourself: How many people do you know who were born in the late 80s or so who didn't go and buy a Dangerous LP when it was first released and then 20 years or so later, say "This was the first Michael Jackson album I ever bought". Or how many people didn't watch the Bucharest concert on HBO back in 1992 and then years later say "That was the first concert I ever saw on TV".

Sure some could say the Estate is avoiding this because Dangerous was released around the time of Michael's child molestation allegations, but that really doesn't matter. In fact, if you ask me, that's no excuse.

But from what I've seen here on MJJCommunity, some are beginning to believe that Dangerous 25 might not happen at all. Some say if it were, we would have heard something by this point. However, I still believe that we may get something for the 25th anniversary of Dangerous this year. It may not be a big Bad 25-like box-set we've all dreamed of, but we may get something. Here are two reasons why I believe it should happen and why the Estate and Sony might make it happen...

1.) It wouldn't seem right if they didn't: They've already released Thriller 25 and Bad 25, so why not maybe complete it with Dangerous 25 and make it sort of a trilogy. Unless they do History 25 or something years later, but regardless it would be a trilogy of Michael's three biggest-selling albums, each reissued for their 25th anniversary. It may also be confusing for some if you start with Thriller 25, then go to Bad 25 and then stop at a Off the Wall reissue.

2.) It makes them dumb as hell to favor celebrating Off the Wall over Dangerous: As I explained earlier, there are many different reasons why Dangerous should be celebrated this year over Off the Wall, which received nothing more than a simple re-release of the original CD with a Blu-ray/DVD of the new documentary specifically just to celebrate that new documentary. There is so much potential with Dangerous 25 and I mean "very much" potential. However, if they refuse to acknowledge Dangerous 25, then clearly they're not as smart as we're meant to believe they are.

Do you believe Dangerous 25 will happen? Do you believe it won't happen? Tell me. Thank you very much.

Re: Why I Believe Dangerous 25 Should Happen

I've been on other MJ fan forums and I've seen people saying that Dangerous 25 won't happen because the "25" albums weren't big successes.
But anyways, this is Sony we're talking about, who are willing to release anything.

I think Dangerous 25 would be great. I think the concert that I would choose if there IS a concert being released with it which I highly doubt, would have to be one of the Tokyo concerts in December 1992.

Ah yes. I can't believe I forgot about that. Well to be fair, Thriller 25 and Bad 25 did break some records here and there. But you're right though. However, if Dangerous 25 were to be released and if it was marketed very well, it could potentially be a much bigger success.

Hmm. Personally, I'm more in favor of seeing one of the earlier shows with Bad and TWYMMF, but Tokyo would be kinda interesting. If they were do a mix of the entire Tokyo leg of the tour (therefore giving us Bad and TWYMMF from the first 4/6 shows, Black or White with Slash and MITM with that different jacket all in one), I'd totally buy it.
