Dangerous 25: what would you like to see happen? [UNCONFIRMED]

Re: Why I Believe Dangerous 25 Should Happen

I feel as though your vision of a Dangerous25 is unrealistic.

You suggest a box set featuring unreleased songs and a full concert despite the fact that the very same thing has already been released for an album that has a stronger cultural and historical value (i.e., Bad25) and failed on the charts and surely lost Sony a substantial amount of money.

Bad and Off the Wall are widely considered among the greatest pop albums ever crafted and will draw media and fan attention based on the names alone. They are a staple of pop music in ways Dangerous very well may never be.

Sony first and foremost is a business and will take whatever steps necessary to make worth out of their $250 million contract with the Estate. This is where Xscape and Michael come in -- two albums that set the precedent for sales and are almost guaranteed success stories (at least if those two are to be taken as benchmarks).

Put that up against Bad25, a wide-spanning collection of various packages and special editions that fell off the worldwide charts in 2-3 weeks.

It's also quite telling that the Off the Wall special edition had no demos or previously unheard tracks and only included the Spike Lee documentary (most likely to cushion the blow assuming the reissue came and went without notice, which it mostly did).

I fully agree that Dangerous deserves its moment in the spotlight. However, there is a fine line between "desires" and "reality," and what most of us want out of a Dangerous25 is entirely improbable. It could almost be guaranteed that it won't do half the business and would be a waste of money.

I'm certainly annoying people with my pessimism, but on a daily basis this board gives off such optimism that there will be such spectacular celebratory packages for Dangerous, and this excitement can quickly turn into anger if it isn't met exactly (which it won't).

At most, expect another Off the Wall reissue with a remastered cut of the album and some sort of bonus disc (maybe new tracks or demos). At least, expect absolutely nothing.

Re: Why I Believe Dangerous 25 Should Happen

I think people need to stop getting their hopes up for this.

While I too would love it, I really don't see it happening.

Yup. Can't see this happening. I'd rather a HD video set.

That would be awesome. But I'm not holding my breath to be honest.

With all due respect, this isn't necessarily my vision for Dangerous 25. I was just speaking on behalf of those who expressed what they want for Dangerous 25. Trust me, even if it was the CD reissued with a few new bonus tracks, I would have bought it regardless.

But isn't that why we want Dangerous 25? So that more people will know about it and give it the respect it deserves? Sure Bad 25 nor did the Off the Wall reissue do well in terms of sales, but they seemed to have introduced newer generations to those two specific albums and some of Michael's most underrated songs (Liberian Girl, I Can't Help It, Get on the Floor, It's the Falling in Love, etc.). Why can't the same be done for songs like Can't Let Her Get Away, She Drives Me Wild or Keep the Faith? Even if it was just a reissued CD with something extra?

That wasn't necessarily directed specifically at you as much as it was at the wider fan population. I undoubtedly agree with you -- there's a high likelihood I would buy whatever they gave us so long as there was some sort of draw (particularly new tracks).

Exactly! Introducing Dangerous to the current generation and allowing them to experience the artistry is the primary reason I would want a Dangerous25 to become reality. It is a fantastic album that deserves another spotlight moment. But as I said before there is a fine line between desire and practicality, as the last few "anniversary" projects have been failures.

Dangerous25 is a lose-lose situation for Sony/the Estate. They release nothing, they irritate the fans. They release a 2-disc package with a handful of new tracks, they irritate some of the fans because they didn't get the expansive pack they wanted. They release an expansive pack, they lose money.

Dangerous 25:

CD of the Dangerous album.
Second CD with songs that didn't make the album.

Dangerous 25 Deluxe Edition:

CD of the Dangerous album.
Second CD with songs that didn't make the album.
DVD/Blu-ray of Wembley 1992 Concert OR a concert containing The Way You Make Me Feel and Bad.

Packaged in a remake of the following:

That's a badass release. On top of that, throw out some D25 Tour jackets/shirts

^^ This is exactly the sort of release that wouldn't happen unfortunately.

The standard edition could happen. The deluxe? No way.

I think OTW and Thriller are considered the artistic peak. I often read that Bad was considered a slight disappointment compared to the two previous. Dangerous was a huge commercial success on par with Bad (especially in places like the UK). Deluxe Editions are all the rage the past 5-10 years so why not the catalog of the King of Pop? Just make a two disc newly-remastered in a nice digipak with a disc full of outtakes, demos and live cuts. We already have a Dangerous Tour DVD. This will easily be profitable. And why is Bad 25 considered a loss for Sony? If anything the money they poured into the packaging and promotion of Xscape might have been a wash. Are they really getting their money's worth for $250 million?

Honestly there's no reason to not do an anniversary release. I see good anniversary releases for albums that do no where near the success of Bad 25 all the time; I get that Sony/The Estate are businesses and therefore focused financially, but sometimes they should take risks and do projects that won't be the biggest money makers.

Honestly, a nicely-packaged 2-3CD set featuring the original album, then demos/outtakes/studio chatter would be great. Booklet can contain some nice unreleased photos and feature an essay too. Nice, solid anniversary release there. Hell, release a concert separately on Blu-ray too.

Will I be mad if they don't do it? No, but I'll be somewhat annoyed as this is a perfect opportunity to shine a light on one of Michael's best artistic works.

If there is a Dangerous 25, I think this is the most realsistic thing we'll probably get

1. A remastered re-release of the Dangerous Album
2. Bonus disc of remixes and unreleased demo's
3. A re-release of Bucharest 1992 on DVD.

What would I like to see happen for Dangerous 25? For Dangerous 25 to happen. I'm not to picky on exactly what. Just as long as it were to happen I'd be okay I think. I don't think it's going to happen though.

Doesn't the estates contract with Sony until 2017? And don't we have like 3 more projects to be released?

Sounds about right. That's 3 projects over the next 18 months... (assuming the contract specifies 31 Dec 2017?).

If they add rehearsal footage as an extra DVD it could be a great release!

That's many new releases in short time.

Surely they will release an all new album like Michael and Xscape - but what will the 2 other projects be? - Maybe D25 - I hope.

My wish would be the Bucharest concert AND crowd shots ONLY!!! That would be great!! Full 2 hours of the audience. ;)

Hmmm, I'd like to see one of earlier shows (Rotterdam or Rome) with full setlist. And not forgetting about 1993. Would be nice to see Moscow or Tel Aviv or Istanbul full show (with MITM, if it wasn't in that concert it may be as a bonus from different one).

Hmm, this is a pretty difficult choice to make.

Dangerous 25 SHOULD happen. However i think we may have heard about it by now. But if it did come id like to hear songs like Bottle of Smoke and Men in Black ( That is if it still exists) . Also i would like to see a combination concert. For example a song from the setlists from various cities he did.
I have to say his vocals for She's Out of My Life are so much better in Dangerous tour compared to Bad Tour where imo he seemed to just rush through the song.
Yet on Human Nature he misses lines , prime example - Electric Eyes are everywhere.
But what i mean is say Jam from London, WBSS from Tokyo, Human Nature Paris etc. What you think ?
Also those demos i was talking about earlier.

I think they should just release a new concert on DVD/Blu-Ray if possible and mention the 25th anniversary in the back and in the marketing. Album with new songs would be great too but I could live without it. I want to see more concerts.

i saw a tweet with the newly released black or white photos saying that they will be apart of D25...
