[Discussion] Michael Jackson Slandered By The Mirror / New assult Pg 38

I think what would be a great story for any investigative journalist would be to expose how some of these tabloids work. The real story is that these Mitteager tapes contain material which exonerate Michael, but tabloids would never report that (well, except for Roger Friedman who did report in 2005 all the content of the Mitteager tapes regarding Michael).

It would also be a good story to point out how these tabloids accuse MJ of paying off people, when it's the tabloids which are doing that! There was never any proof of Michael paying anyone off for silence (and no, the settlements with the Chandlers and Francias are not "hush money" in that regard, since those settlements came after those allegations already went public and to authorities), but there's plenty of evidence of the tabloid media paying off people to make up lies about MJ. And the Sunday People know that damn well! One of those stories is right there on those Mitteager tapes! And we know how many of the prosecution's witnesses in 2005 got payments from tabloids. So those are documented FACTS, yet they are accusing Michael of paying off people? The nerve!

If there would be a brave investigative journalist it could be a good story. But I don't think there are many journalists who have the guts to expose their own industry.

There is a book--it's called Tabloid Baby. I haven't read it but have heard about how good it is.

I just don't get WHY they are doing this??? Its just evil now. MJ has done nothing to these people, he's already dead what else do they want. Its disgusting.

This is so evil. I can't believe they still blatantly lie to the public and get away from it. This is unacceptable. What happened to Michael made me not believe in karma. Everything for money, pure evil.

This story is now on the Daily Mail UK website. I guess I won't post a link.

But they have a comment section open. I have posted several items to debunk their story, and they are censoring my posts. They will not let them through. They have no problem letting through posts calling Michael nasty names, hoping his children read that story, etc., but will not allow the truth to be shown. What does that tell you?

Low-down dirty scum is what they are, along with everyone behind all this. I do believe in karma... and karma is a bitch.

All we can do is keep reporting these articles to the Press Complaints Commission.

Everyone, here is the link again that GreenEyedOne posted: http://www.pcc.org.uk/complaints/form.html

During that time he worked alongside former Sun reporter and author Bill Coles.

In the final weeks of his employment at WENN, allegations in an article published by Salon.com that he'd fabricated a quote by Sir George Martin relating to the health of George Harrison.[1] WENN sold a story to The Mail On Sunday claiming that Martin said Harrison was close to death. The interview was conducted by WENN reporter Christian Koch. The story appeared under the byline of Katie Nicholl in The Mail On Sunday on July 22 under the headline: “George Harrison Is Close to Death Says ’5th Beatle’ Martin”. After the story appeared Martin denied giving quotes about Harrison. In the next few months many more media outlets reported that Harrison's condition was worsening.[2] In the 2011 George Harrison's widow Olivia revealed in a book and Martin Scorsese documentary about George Harrison’s life –both titled - George Harrison: Living in the Material World – that her husband had spent the summer months of 2001 preparing for his death. He spent time at a hospice and his last summer in Fuji. Time magazine revealed how: "Harrison eventually surrendered to throat and lung cancer. He and Olivia spent a last lovely summer in Fiji, preparing for the end and taking stock of their life together." [3][4] Harrison passed away just four months after the Mail On Sunday article on 29 November 2001.[5] Desborough was subsequently awarded the ""can we hear the tape?" award for verbatim quotes" at the Shafta Awards by fellow tabloid reporters as a result of this piece.[6]

Desborough interviewed Mills's former manager Michele Elyzabeth, who delivered a two week expose on Mills's conduct toward McCartney and her secret ploys to tarnish the rock star’s reputation with the public. Elyzabeth told Desborough that Mills was “a lying witch”, who misled the public over McCartney’s financial donations to her and daughter Bea during their separation.[11]

In 2007 he conducted an interview with Britney Spears's bodyguard Tony Barreto talking about the pop star’s drug and alcohol problems. After the story came out, a Californian judge handed custody of her children to her estranged husband Kevin Federline.[12]

In 2008, Desborough wrote a two week expose of Sharon Osbourne through the eyes of her brother David Arden. Arden made a series of allegations against Sharon including how she tried to allegedly fix The X Factor, secretly resented Simon Cowell and wasted hundreds of thousands of pounds on furniture, clothes and homes.

Desborough did an interview with Amy Winehouse's former boyfriend, Alex Haines, in 2008, detailing her addictions to crack and marijuana. Haines admitted that Winehouse planned to join “The 27 Club” – the list of famous musicians who died at the age of 27. Winehouse died at the age of 27 in July 2011.[13]

In July 2009, Desborough interviewed Jackson’s sister LaToya Jackson, who told him “Michael Jackson was murdered”.[15] Desborough appeared on CBS TV show Entertainment Tonight discussing the interview.

Desborough generated more headlines for the News Of The World when Michael’s father Joe Jackson blamed his wife Katherine for the death of their son.[16] Other exclusives included the first picture of the bedroom and chaotic scene where Jackson died, reports from the paramedics that Jackson was dead before they arrived and hospital emergency room doctors confirming Murray withheld details of Jackson’s Propofol intake when they treated him.[17][18][19][20][21] Desborough revealed how Jackson’s mental and physical state was poor in his last weeks alive. He revealed he needed a golf cart to get him on stage and even used a double for rehearsals.
Desborough’s information and stories emerged during testimonies in the 2011 involuntary manslaughter trial of Conrad Murray in Los Angeles.[22]

Desborough wrote several front page stories on golfer Tiger Woods's affairs. Phone hacking scandal and Operation Weeting[edit]

On August 18, 2011, Desborough was arrested by officers from Operation Weeting on suspicion of phone hacking. Newspaper reports confirmed that Desborough’s arrest was printed on the Guardian’s news website, before it actually took place. Later that day an officer from Operation Weeting was arrested at his desk over suspicions of leaks to the media.

On August 19, 2011, Desborough’s criminal solicitor issued a statement saying: “James Desborough was arrested on August 18th after he attended a South London police station voluntarily and by appointment with his Solicitor, Julian Young. He was interviewed for a number of hours and cooperated fully with the police in their investigations. He denied, and continues to deny, any conspiracy to unlawfully intercept voice mails or acting unlawfully in any way."

On August 19 Deputy Assistant Commissioner Sue Akers, head of the Operation Weeting inquiry into alleged phone hacking at the News of the World, said: "I made very clear the need for operational and information security. "It is hugely disappointing that this may not have been adhered to." The Guardian when asked if payments were made to police, said in a statement: "In common with all news organizations we have no comment to make on the sources of our journalism."

On March 27, 2012 the Metropolitan Police and Operation Weeting confirmed that Desborough was released and "no further action" would be taken against him.[23]

Desborough was the first staff employee of the News Of The World to be cleared after an investigation by the Weeting team.
In an interview with Sky News[24] Young said his client "could easily have been interviewed without being formerly nicked and fears his arrest was ordered in a bid to flush out a Yard detective suspected of leaking the latest arrests to a newspaper."
Desborough is the third suspect to be released of more than 40 suspects arrested and bailed in the three parallel investigations into phone-hacking, police payments and computer-hacking.

I didn't know the background to this story is in Margaret Maldonado's book. Can you show me that part?

From Maldonado's book:

Jourdynn and Jeremy (sons of Jermaine and Margaret) called several times during the trip each time full of excitement. On the last call Jourdynn complained that his uncle Michael had locked himself in his cabin and wouldn't let them it. I knew the feeling. I could imagine what is was like to be trapped with them for several days and nights on a train. "He's meditating," Jeremy informed me. And when i asked if he knew what "meditating" meant he said he did, "it's when uncle Michael locks himself in room in the dark and tell us not to make a sound". Close enough. The most incredible details of this trip however wasn't revealed it was over. When Jeremy and Jourdynn came back home armed with some new toys i asked to see their schoolwork. As promised it was completed and perfect. When i asked who helped them with their papers they replied in unison: "Uncle Michael."

If You have the time watch this video. It explains why the FBI Files are FALSE.

Can't we just twist and tweak that story as he does when writing stories about Michael

In August 2011, James Desborough was arrested for phone-hacking, police payments and computer-hacking. through His arrest he also led Metro police to arrest of a detective from Operation Weeting at his desk over suspicions of the leaks. Desborough was released in March 27, 2012. The Metropolitan Police and Operation Weeting confirmed that no further action" would be taken. A source close to Desborough also arrested and released stated Desborough was only released for fear he would also incriminate higher ups in the Metro police and Operation Weeting depts and says he still using the same illegal tactics today.

Martin Luther King JR ......"More and more i feel that the people of ill will have used time much more effectively than the people of good will. We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hatefull words and actions of bad people. But the appalling silence of the good people."

qbee, i agree. And not only with this guy.

I looked up this law out of frustration and found this out too-it's amazing that an estate can't sue on behalf of the deceased, But it seems that Branca, Weitzman, et.al (who are so knowledgeble) could find something where they could sue on behalf of diminishing the VALUE of the estate's intellectual property or somehow work the kids into a lawsuit for pain and suffering-because all this does is hurt them more.

Does anybody know the background of the "costume designer" story who bought magazines? I know it's got to be a Barresi document or something. This is one I had never heard before and I pretty much know them all-and especially when Michael was a kid himself, really. I'm sorry-I just so hate this and I need to calm myself down. What I'd like to know more than that, is who's behind all of it-someone on the AEG/Jackson case, someone with Howard Mann, or just Wade? Or somebody else we don't know about. I'm suspicious of everybody now.

All I hear from the estate are crickets chirping. Not a peep from them on this. I hope that means they are doing something behind the scenes we don't know about. Because I have a feeling the attacks are going to continue on like this every week now.

Charles Thomson called for an investigation into this on his blog today. We can only hope someone is trying to find who is behind this obvious smear campaign.

I hope Alan Duke writes another article debunking this tabloid's story's lies too. That would be great. They can't just get away with this.
I like someone's idea of doing a news story on the ethics of the media being in bed with the tabloids, etc. Alan Duke would be good for a start-there's lots of people that we read that he could interview that know the truth. They could start out with the excellent PBS Frontline on tabloid trash that Qbee recently posted (and that should be required viewing for all journalism students as well as in orientation for all news organizations. The piece is practically written already for them by just reading this web site.
It used to be hard to debunk stories back in the 80's and 90's-I know for a fact because I used to argue and research and argue some more. Now anyone can with the internet and even YouTube.

Michael Jackson child abuse probe halted because he was to receive White House honour from President

An FBI probe into Michael Jackson’s sex abuse of young boys was shelved because he’d been invited to the White House, official records show.

The Thriller megastar was to be honoured with an award by Ronald Reagan in 1984 for his work with drug and alcohol charities.

And federal agents decided to save the President and wife Nancy embarrassment by scrapping their investigation into a tip-off that Jackson had molested two Mexican boys.

The disclosure – in papers released under America’s Freedom of Information Act – comes a week after the Sunday People revealed Jackson spent 23million in 15 years to buy the silence of at least 24 youngsters who had visited his Neverland ranch in California.

The Reagan document is part of a 333-page file made public by the FBI which show there were suspicions the singer had been abusing kids since at least 1978, when he was 20.
FBI agents found a home-movie titled Michael Jackson’s Neverland Favorites An All Boy Video Anthology.

And in a separate FBI file obtained *exclusively by the Sunday People – and not included in the Freedom of Information papers – a costume designer said the singer ordered paedo magazines while touring Europe 35 years ago with the Jackson 5.

The revelations underline the huge influence wielded by Jackson, who died of an overdose in 2009 aged 50.

The FBI openly admits in the dossier it did not follow up the tip about the Mexican kids being abused “because Jackson was to receive an honour at the White House from the President”.

He was back at the White House in 1990 to meet President George Bush Snr, wife Barbara and their daughter Dorothy.

There was no mention of any abuse probe at that stage.

But other FBI files detail a late-night phone call from Jackson to Terry George, a boy of 13 in Leeds, with the singer describing how he was fondling himself during their chat. The young Brit had been befriended by the star in 1979 after asking for his autograph.

A 1992 file tells how a couple complained ***** and a boy of 12 shared a sleeper train compartment next to theirs – and kept them awake with “questionable noises”.

But no official action was taken in any of the cases spelt out in the documents.

‘Abused’ boy: Files show I told truth

A dancer who claims Michael Jackson sexually abused him said our *revelations about the FBI files last week “shows I was telling the truth”.

Wade Robson, 30, suing the King of Pop’s estate, has asked his legal team to get hold of the files on the hush money Jackson paid boys.

Lawyer Maryann R. Marzano is hoping the FBI will turn over boxes of information on the allegations and wants to contact other victims, cops, Neverland staff, and *investigators.

Choreographer Wade claims he was molested over seven years. A source close to him said: “He feels this could become a key part of his case, that he is not the only child who may have suffered at Jackson’s hands.”

Jackson’s estate says Robson’s allegations are “completely false, outrageous and sad”.

Righhttttt that is a load of rubbish LOL

Here'a a book by a reputable journalist :
Jeff Cohen "Cable News Confidential"--he was fired from MSNBC for his anti-war position prior to the Iraq War; his book goes over his work inside cable news or "corporate news" (also he worked at FoxNews and CNN) and he discusses the bias, the emphasis on sex and celebrity and scandal and the whole Rupert Murdock/tabloidization effect on journalism.

No, we know nothing about it. It was claims MJ asked to buy them - how do you ask to buy them? Why ask your costumer? What exactly are "pedo" magazines? I mean, where the hell can you buy such things to begin with? And why after exhaustive looks through his entire life has no such things ever been found?

I don't believe the FBI gave them real docs, so it has to be Baressi.

We can assume like the other docs this means it's something taken wildly out of context and could just be someone phoning the police to tell them this happened, with no proof. Or could be the LeMarques making up how they knew this to Baressi.

If it's in any of the Baressi docs it means the authorities and police and Sneddon have already seen whatever this is and it must obviously be as big a pile of crap as everything else as it was never used or brought up by anyone else.

Respect, I read Maldonado's book on jetzi, but when I looked just now, it's not there any more. Maldonado lived with Jermaine for 7 years and her book is very very interesting, to say the least. She talks about the TV miniseries about the Jackson family, which was very successful. MJ went back to LA by train with her 2 sons. She writes about the mini series quite a bit and mentions the train ride in passing. I think the justification the LA DA (Garcetti) used to get the FBI on board to investigate MJ after the Chandler accustaion came from this train ride--b/c they could use the Mann Act (refers to crossing state lines to commit a crime) and make the investigation outside of California and thus call in the Feds. I am thinking this was a woman who read the accusations, recalled the earlier train ride, and felt she had to/should report what could have been a suspicious incident. Who she reported it to is unclear--maybe to the LAPD. When Maldonado wrote the book she mentioned in the train ride and just spoke about how happy she was that he had the boys do their homework!

Thanks. I thought the Mann Act thing was about Jordan traveling with him to other states, such as Nevada (Las Vegas).

I agree VG is the one who told the FBI about the hypothetical Mexican boys--Orth mentions this in one of her hit pieces--how she tried to track this rumor down (of course she was always looking for something to smear MJ with) and how she came up with nothing. She did get in contact with VG however. It's interesting to me that many used VG as a 'source' to give legitimacy to their journo crap about MJ but VG was not called in 05 b/c the 'real world' knew he was not credible at all. I would love it if someday VG would be put in court under oath. I guess he was in the defamation suit. Have you looked at his testimony, respect?

Apparently VG talked about Michael molesting two Chilean boys on Chilean TV around that time. So it could be that's the story he then changed to Mexican boys (or he changed his Mexican boys story to Chilean boys in Chile).

Yes, VG is behind a lot of it, he's more of a key player than most people realize. It's amazing to me that someone can just play this big insider and all the media eats up anything he says so uncritically. Diane Dimond called him her best source. Heck, VG even lead authorities by the nose. Maureen Orth wrote in her 2003 article that investigators she talked to basically thought that VG's book was accurate information... Unreal. It reminds me of when in the 80s authorities in the US used a ridiculous book called Michelle Remembers as the blueprint to investigate "satanic ritual abuse" cases. IMO it was similar with VG's book in this case. Honestly, sometimes when I look at this case I feel like in the Middle Ages. When unfounded rumors were used to investigate, convict and even execute people as witches. That witch hunt mindset is still there. Amazing.

What testimony of VG you mean?

I meant VG's testimony in the defamation suit MJ filed against him re the nonexistent videotape that he went on Hard Copy to claim he had seen (he appeared together with DD)--I just looked at the appeal court decision which denied MJ's suit for DD, and others (but not VG). The appeals court agreed with the lower court ruling which found DD et al not guilty. When you read this, you realize that there are absolutely NO limits under the law to the lies the press can tell. DD can go on TV (she made 2 appearances in January, 95) and affirm that there exists a videotape of MJ having explicit sex (and she named the sex act involved) with a minor, that the minor's mother has seen the tape, that this info came from her long-time reliable source, that she is as sure as she can possibly be, and yet the court finds that she acted as a responsible journalist and that she was only giving her opinion. I can so understand MJ's feeling of absolute rage that he manifested in Scream--as jacked as it sounds, the whole system sucks! he is right.

But the court did find VG guilty so at least he got that victory. I just wondered if you had seen he court docs/testimony from that suit vs. VG.

No, I haven't seen testimony from that case.

Yes, I know how mind-boggling it is that the media is so protected and they can lawfully get away with so many things which basically ruin lives! That's why I call them the holy cows of modern Western societies. Laws like the Shield Law allow them to make up lies without consequences. All they have to do to cite an "unnamed source" and they can say anything they want to as not even the Court can force them to reveal their sources! So those sources can lie or may not even exist at all and no one can be found resonsible for a lie that potentially ruins someone's reputation or life. I know that Western societies value freedom of speech and freedom of the press above anything else, but is that a good thing when there are obviously many, many people in the media who cynically abuse those rights and use them to destroy other people? I think some stronger boundaries should be set.

For example, I would not allow the media to use anonymous sources, especially when negative claims, allegations, accusations are made about someone. That would not stop slander altogether, but would significantly reduce it. People making accusations could not hide behind anonymity (What a cowardly thing that is, actually!) and should be be able to held responsible for their words. And often when you know who the source is that puts the whole story into a whole different perspective. Then you know the history of that person with the accused, you know his or her agenda etc.

I think the mistake VG made was that he named his source - claiming it was the boy's mother, Margaret Maldonado. Who then could come out and deny the whole story. If VG hadn't named the boy and the mother he would have probably got away with it. But yeah, even the fact that Dimond got off is mind-boggling. Against a journalist it's not enough to prove she or he lied. It has to be proven she or he did it with malice. And that's the hard part. Dimond's defense was that she acted in good faith, genuinely believing her source. Another point of her defense was that she reasonably did what she could to veryify the story - by going to Tom Sneddon and asking him about it. Sneddon apparently told her that they are investigating the allegation, so apparently this statement from Sneddon was enough to prove that Dimond did everything to background check the story... Yeah, it's ridiculous, but apparently that's how it is. And that is exactly why journalists often send their info to authorities, even if they know it's false - so that they can use it in their defense later on. Just like Roger Friedman said in one of his 2005 articles:

He bequeathed the tapes to investigator Paul Barresi, who spent a year and a half transcribing and editing them. The hundreds of hours of recordings describe the Enquirer's unsavory tactics dealing with sources, subjects and the police.

What Barresi found, among other things, is that the Enquirer routinely turned over its notes to police after it was done with them.

The tabloid was thus able to avoid lawsuits by claiming it got its information from police sources. This was a clever tactic, but the complete opposite of what actually happened.

That's exactly why Dimond was able to get away with it too.

^Millions of people are so gullible anyway and believe what shitty tabloids write, that's why it's important serious journalist and fans debunk them with THE TRUTH AND they detract what those tabloid wrote (I highly doubt the second thing happens.)

Whatever happened to the open letter we were gonna sign?

For anyone who feels like they want to do something, please log your complaint with the Press Commission. I just received an email from them that they have launched an investigation into this matter. So, it's working.

Keep pressing them!

You will need to provide them the link to the offending article (the Mirror articles and the Daily Mail.) You also need to provide them the link to the CNN article and also that of Roger Friedman and Charles Thomson.

The offense is "Accuracy Clause".

I hear what your saying and agree but... Some of this is utter nonsense and I can't believe it's in print. The crap about meeting Regan and stuff are you kidding me. The government would be sued by any supposed victim the FBI too. I hope the Jacksons bankrupt AEG but I'm sure they are insured for it. The estate is just ignoring there attorny is on some of these alleged documents why bring up my questions to be answered is there position I would guess. This will go on for ever. Wade is putting stuff out there to pressure the estate. Something has to give soon I would guess.

Yes it is VERY important to contact the Press Complaints Commission in this case.

http://www.pcc.org.uk/complaints/makingacomplaint.html

The PCC have very strict guidelines, and specific parts of the Mirror and Mail articles are so easy to disprove that it's worth a shot.

I have contacted the PCC about these articles in two complaints - one for the Mail and one for the second Mirror article. I will later file a complaint about the first Mirror article but haven't had chance yet.

The newspapers state explicitly that the FBI ceased their investigation into the abuse of two mexican boys because MJ was meeting the president. The Mail even says "the FBI openly admits" to the reason.

The newspaper reports cite the FBI files as their source, yet the FBI files say no such thing. This is fact.

The FBI files state that somebody writing a book alleged an investigation took place, and provided the reason as reported in the newspapers. The FBI file also says that the FBI writer could NOT find records of the investigation when they searched for it.

Clearly there is no evidence that the FBI ever investigated abuse against two Mexican boys(!), so reporting that it happened as fact is inacurate.
The FBI do not make claims as to why the investigation (that they haven't been able to find any record of) was dropped. To say the FBI files provide a reason for dropping the investigation is inaccurate.
The reports also say that the FBI files detail the telephone conversation to Terry George. This one's more of a long shot, but in my opinion the FBI file does NOT detail the telephone conversation at all - it only provide newspaper snippets taken from tabloid reports, without any comment on the content.
