Thought I would post this:

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;

I am not there. I did not die.

OMG I had this poem memorized at one point. My Aunt was killed in a car accident, and my Uncle hung himself all within 2 years. This is one of the most comforting works that I have ever read. Thank you for sharing this!!!

No prob.
There's also another version (slightly different).

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

i love verses like these....................when my dad died i read and printed loads of them and made a book with them all in, they really helped me get thru it.......i have been reading them again this week

i can put some on here if people want them

That's the first poem that came to my mind the day after.
It makes you feel a little better, thank you... :)
Very beautiful.

Wingfoot, thanks for posting that! I have seen that many times, but it never hurts for us to be reminded!

Thank you for posting this. It brought tears to my eyes. I'm going to read it daily to remind myself that Michael is still with us.

I love this poem, seems so accurate too at a time like this. Thanks for posting! :)

Thanks so much for that, it was beautiful, comforting and reassuring all at once. These things are vital for me to keep myself from falling completely apart - anything that can help me convince myself that he is still here with us, and that he is happy.

Here is another poem that I think provides the same thing. It really helped me get through the death of my big brother when I was 10, so it holds a special place in my heart. I have read it every day lately. Maybe you guys will find it to be of help as well.

Death is nothing at all. It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Nothing has happened.
Everything remains exactly as it was.
I am I, and you are you,
and the memories will forever stay untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.

Let my name be ever the household name that it alawys was.
Let it be spoken without an effort,
without the ghost of shadow upon it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is an absolute and unbroken continuity.
What is death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind, just because I'm out of sight?
I am but waiting for you,
for an interval,
somewhere very near,
just around the corner.
All is well.

i've got that one from when my dad died..............i read it often then

There's a poem that I almost immediantly thought of after Michael died is this one:

If Tears Could Build A Stairway

If tears could build a stairway
And memories were a lane
We would walk right up to Heaven
And bring you back again

No farewell words were spoken
No time to say goodbye
You were gone before we knew it
And only God knows why

Our hearts still ache in sadness
And secret tears still flow
What it meant to lose you
No on will ever know

But know we know you want us
To mourn for you no more
To remember all the happy times
Life still has much in store

Since you’ll never be forgotten
We pledge to you today
A hallowed place within our hearts
Is where you’ll always stay

My mother has this stone plaque outside with the first part of that poem on it. She got it after her mother had died over 8 years ago.

I also have another poem I hope you don't mind that I post.

When Tomorrow Starts Without Me

When tomorrow starts without me,
and I’m not there to see;
If the sun should rise and find your eyes,
all filled with tears for me;
I wish so much you wouldn’t cry,
the way you did today,
while thinking of the many things,
we didn’t get to say.

I know how much you love me,
as much as I love you,
and each time that you think of me,
I know you’ll miss me too;
But when tomorrow starts without me,
please try to understand,
that an Angel came and called my name,
and took me by the hand,
and said my place was ready,
in heaven far above,
and that I’d have to leave behind,
all those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away,
a tear fell from my eye,
for all life, I’d always thought,
I didn’t want to die.
I had so much to live for,
so much yet to do,
It seemed almost impossible,
that I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays,
the good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared,
and all the fun we had.

If I could relive yesterday,
just even for awhile,
I’d say goodbye and kiss you
and maybe see you smile.

But then I fully realized,
that this could never be,
for emptiness and memories,
would take the place of me.

And when I though of worldly things,
I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
my heart was filled with sorrow.

But when I walked through heaven’s
gates,
I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me,
from His great golden throne,
He said, "This is eternity,
and all I’ve promised you".
Today for life on earth is past,
but here it starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow,
but today will always last,
and since each day’s the same day,
there’s no longing for the past.

But you have been so faithful,
so trusting and so true.
Though there were times you did some things,
you knew you shouldn’t do.
But you have been forgiven
and now at last you’re free.
So won’t you take my hand
and share my life with me?

So when tomorrow starts without me,
don’t think we’re far apart,
for every time you think of me,
I’m right here, in your heart.

BollywoodGirl, the poem "When Tomorrow Starts Without Me" is absolutely beautiful. I really really love that one. It's so sad but so nice. Thanks for posting it!

Thanks for posting those BollywoodGirl.

Here's one of my favourite poems:

REMEMBER

by: Christina Rossetti

REMEMBER me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
