Guide to commerative/tribute magazines on MJ [Offical Thread]

Re: Guide to Commerative/Tribute Magazines on MJ [Official Thread]

Could anyone tell me about how many pages or percentage (%) of these magazines are devoted to Michael:

1. Rolling Stone
2. Life magazine
3. People Magazine
4. Billboard

I'm wondering about Billboard as well.

RS, Life, People TRIBUTE are all tribute specials so they're totally devoted to Michael.

Re: Guide to Commerative/Tribute Magazines on MJ [Official Thread]

Thank you VanX, my sweet sir, do you also know if the People tribute is still in stores?

Re: Guide to Commerative/Tribute Magazines on MJ [Official Thread]

Rolling Stone is entirely devoted to Mike but it's not worth it, really. There's another thread somewhere about the content of the tribute mags if you want to look but I 've seen Rooling Stone myself and the whole thing presents Mike in a bad light :-(

Re: i got all the Tribute Magazine's of MJ

I thought someone said Rolling Stone was inaccurate and a bit negative?

too me it starts out good but then turns negative towards the back of the magazine

Have you guys seen the Word up magazine?

Re: Guide to Commerative/Tribute Magazines on MJ [Official Thread]

I saw another tribute magazine today. It is Hip Hop Weekly. It costs $5.99 and was completely devoted to Michael. From what I perused, it appears to be one of the most favorable magazines out there. It had 4 interviews from people who ACTUALLY knew him (amazing, I know)-- Suzanne DePasse, Teddy Riley, Al Sharpton, and someone else. It touched on the allegations, but they actually mentioned things like the fact that Jordan's mom denied the allegations at first. It seems to provide a more fair look. The quality of the pictures, though, were not quite as good as with other magazines. Some of them were screenshots directly from videos that did not transfer well. I think fans would enjoy this issue. I did not buy it because I feel like I've spent so much on magazines already, but I may go back for it anyway.

It is! Get a copy quick though, they're selling fast!

Re: Guide to Commerative/Tribute Magazines on MJ [Official Thread]

I got Jet today at work. It discusses his death, the relationship between the Jacksons and Johnson Publishing Company (owner of Jet and Ebony), his music and how it broke down barriers, a timeline of his life, his relationship with fans, his awards and achievements, the BET awards tribute, and his discography.

Separate pictures include James Brown's funeral
WMA 2006
police escort to a performance in 1984
Hugging Nelson Mandela in 1996
all the covers of Jet that he and his family have graced

There's also a section in the middle that lists some weddings and anniversaries for couples (I've never read this magazine, so I don't know if that's a regular feature), and they had different song names as headlines for each couple, like "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," for a young couple's wedding, and "Remember the Time," for a couple's fiftieth anniversary. :)

The articles in the magazine are rather blah. They kind of read like they were written by a middle-schooler. But it's only $1.99, and there are some nice pictures in there. And of course the cover is lovely too. If anyone wants pictures I'll take them.

Oh, and before I forget--has anyone found Ebony yet? It's supposed to be out this week. I haven't noticed it yet, and I'm itching to see what it's like.

Re: Guide to Commerative/Tribute Magazines on MJ [Official Thread]

I i called Books-a-million today and they said they don't have it and WON'T be getting it. I wonder what's up with that. :-(
Borders said they don't have it either and don't know if they get it or not but I bet they will, they get Ebony usually so they should get this one in as well, right?

Re: Guide to Commerative/Tribute Magazines on MJ [Official Thread]

Hmmm. I don't have any Books-A-Million out here. My Borders sucks with this kind of stuff, so I didn't expect them to have it. Barnes and Noble might. I think I also read somewhere that somebody found a copy at their local Target. I also have a reading center near my job (a store that sells only magazines and newspapers). I was in there the other day and there was a whole MJ tribute magazine table. Ebony wasn't yet there though.

Re: i got all the Tribute Magazine's of MJ

the rolling stone issue in australia comes with different cover instead of the picture from billie jean live. its a closeup of his face instead on australian version.

Re: i got all the Tribute Magazine's of MJ

For my fellow UK fans, I recommend using http://www.booksamillion.com/. I ordered a couple of the tribute specials on Saturday afternoon and they arrived from America first thing Wednesday morning. The shipping is a bit pricey but you can't argue with service that quick and the magazines are very well protected.

The one on the left is like the back of the People magazine tribute. It's all pictures accompanied only by quotes from Michael himself. It was $6.50.

The one on the right is Hip Hop Weekly. There are two covers out, the one above and another with a Dangerous-era picture of Michael from on tour. That one has articles and interviews and is the least negative of all the magazines that I have seen. This one is $5.99.
