.....Xscape is better than Invincible! :)

(apologies if this has been discussed before)

Disagree. Invincible is my favorite Michael Jackson album.

It's better than HIStory, though, and Michael had his hand in that one.

Invincible is one of his weakest albums....no way better than HIStory.

Hey, I still respect your opinion. I've met a lot of people that like Invincible. It just doesn't do it for me.

Xscape on the other hand.....I've had it on repeat since Wednesday....especially STTR :)

I suppose you mean you think it´s better than Invincible.

I love invincible but even when it came out I was 17 and knew even then that it was SLIGHTLY disappointing... At the time I wondered why he felt the need to have a rapper like "Fats" on not one but two tracks, why he wanted to put so many slow/downer tracks on it (i.e. DWA, YAML), and why The Lost Children was even allowed to be released (please nobody hate me for that)..

But at the same time it had so many musical "peaks".. Like Whatever Happens (should've been single #2 IMO), YRMW (such a great feel good song), Unbreakable (to this day I still imagine what he could've done with that song on stage or short film), and Butterflies.. I would say the Invincible album as a whole really showcased his vocal talent like none of his previous albums.. So for that reason it's a great album to me regardless..

But sometimes less is more and there were multiple tracks that should've been either taken off or replaced with better ones..

Still love it tho..

I love Invincible, but I think it has too many tracks.

I haven't heard Xscape yet (apart from LNFSG of course), but I love the fact it goes back to the days of OTW and Thriller, with fewer tracks. Hopefully it will be 'quality over quantity'.

"Xscape" is better than "Michael"

Dangeous, Bad, HIStory, Thriller, Off The Wall, Invincible, Blood On The Dance Floor - They're from another world.

Not everyone will agree with this mate, in my opinion invincible has outstanding tracks... including You Rock My World! Xscape will never be as close to one of Michael's own made albums... but it sure is fantastic.

I think, purely songwriting wise, that Xscape is stronger than Invincible. And like someone pointed, I feel Invincible kinda suffers from having so many songs. It feels like a really uneven album to my ears.

I think Invincible has some really outstanding tracks but it also has Michael's "worst" moments so to speak. The Xscape songs have all really good "bodies" so to speak. Hard to compare with the production out of Michael's hands and the original versinos being unfinished.

I'm glad many fans love Xscape. But please, HIStory is a masterpiece, period. Yeah, not as radio friendly as Xscape - simply because it's thematically not light, but it's a better album than Xscape.

Dont hate me...

1. Dangerous (85%)
2. Xscape (82%)
3. Bad (81%)
4. Thriller (77%)
5. Invincible (75%)
6. HIStory (73%)
7. Off The Wall (60%)
8. Michael (60%)
9. Blood On The Dancefloor (38%)

Based on the percentage of songs i listen to on each album. Xscape includes the deluxe edition and BOTDF includes the remixes

Give it time. Xscape is new, of course temporarily it's more interesting now than the old stuff that we have been listening to for decades. But will it stand the test of time like those classics? Will you in 5, 10 still rate it higher than Thriller, HIStory, OTW...? Needless to say what a classic Thriller is - an album that is still on the year-end Billboard 200 every year, more than 30 years after its release... OTW is a classic that everyone and their mother try to emulate some 35 years after its release. HIStory was not as radio friendly and as popular, but it's one of Michael's best and most important albums IMO. So I'm glad y'all enjoy Xscape, but let's not get carried away here.

I would urge people to not get carried away with an album that is fresh and compare it to an album that we have all been listening to for 13 years.

At the moment I'm listening to all of these songs more than Invincinble, but that doesn't mean it's better, it just means these new songs are fresh to me.

If you come back to me in 10 years and say the exact same thing to me I'll take it a lot more seriously.

On a sidenote, Invincible could have been much better than it was and I think there is definitely something more to the story...did Michael purposely hold back some of the best songs because of the problems he was having with Sony at the time? Probably not the place to discuss it but thought I may as well include it in this reply.

Fair enough if that's how you feel mo, but I disagree wholeheartedly. :) I think in 5 years, when the production on these remixed versions is no longer the mainstream standard of the time, people won't be so enthusiastic about them anymore. The by then dated production will then no longer mask the fact that the newly added melodies, grooves and rhythms are just too generic, substandard and overproduced. I guess many here will disagree, but that's just my opinion. We'll see in a few years I guess.

Xscape is good, but it doesn't have the special "Michael-touch" which is present on....let's say.....
compare Break of Dawn with Xscape, who will win?

The way i determine an albums strength is by how many songs i play from it without skipping... in this case... this would make Xscape my favourite MJ album

Surely Xscape still has the "novely" factor at this moment in time, though? I mean, I'm playing it daily right now. However, I know that my favourite albums are still HIStory and Blood On The Dance Floor, even though I haven't played those for a while. I'm sure when I tire of hearing the new music on Xscape, I will play it a lot less than my favourite albums in the long run.

i dont think its fair to compare a alum that MJ had no say in with one he did

You're mad.

Can't quite believe what I'm reading. Better than HIStory?? Seriously?? I can only imagine how apeshit fans would be going right now if they were hearing TDCAU, Earth Song, Tabloid Junkie etc for the first time.

I listen to the songs of "Invincible" so much so that they have got rated as most played songs on my cell phone. :D Some of the songs are pure MAGIC. "Break of Dawn", "Butterflies", "Heaven Can Wait", "Whatever Happens" --> WOW! The way he sings in them with so much passion!
Not to forget "Cry" and "The Lost Children".. they are simply beautiful.
And the most funkiest and groovy songs-> 2000 watts (this is my absolute fav), Heartbreaker, Unbreakable! I completely love the beats in Invincible. And also I absolutely love "Shout" which didn't make it to the album but MJ BADLY wanted to release it. An underrated unreleased track. Damn you, Mottola. Its one of the coolest tracks I have ever heard and MJ is "badass" in it.

I had posted this in a forum before, so I will repeat this again.
His vocals in Invincible sound deeper and mature just like in "Chicago". And MJ sang those songs in Invincible in a new style to show a whole new side of him. He wanted to establish a more masculine and tougher image in the public with that album. (Also wanted to get rid of his OTW and Thriller image which had been persistent and also because his new albums always got compared to them). This is a quote from an article which reviewed Invincible.

"So far on Invincible, we’ve been presented with Jackson the tough guy and Jackson the lover. Almost certainly a conscious decision. Invincible also features more examples of Jackson’s lower register than ever before. Gone are the sweet falsetto’s and breathy coo’s of his 70s & 80s output. We are in full-out masculine territory here."

You can read the full article here : http://sosogay.co.uk/2013/lost-in-mu...on-invincible/

Not everybody accepted that kind of image makeover of MJ with that album.

I think MJ was really cool in Invincible. So I don't care what anyone says, Invincible to me is far superior to any of his posthumous releases. :D

@Threadstarter, you're talking to prematurely. You cannot compare an album that has been out for a couple a days to an album that has been out for over 13 years.

The question is will the album stand the test of time? Will you be able to play the album and talk about it 13 years from now the same way you do today?

I remember some people saying that Al Capone was better than Smooth Criminal aswell.. Lol.

Stranger In Moscow alone shits on the whole Xscape project, just saying.

Xscape is a michael jackson classic but it's not better than any of his Albums, fact.

1. BAD (99%)
2. Thriller (95%)
3. Off The Wall (92%)
4. Dangerous (91%)
5. HIStory (89%)
6. Invincible (88%)
7. Blood On The Dancefloor (87% Only because of 'Ghosts' & tracks one to five)
8. Xscape (86%)
9. Michael (76% track 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 & 10)

That's my evaluation anyways, Motown albums do feel more like Jackson 5 Records.. still beautiful though. Xscape definitely slays the 'Michael' album, it holds more depth and is far more cohesive than the first posthumous release.

And you're crazy. Nothing released after Michael died will be better than anything released while he was alive.

Ideally "Xscape" should only be compared to other posthumous albums including "Michael".

This.

For me, it's:

HIStory > Dangerous > Bad > Invincible > Thriller > Off The Wall > Xscape > Michael
