Janet's Number One's World Tour Official Thread

SkyNews: Five people confirmed dead after stage collapsed at Indiana state fair.

OMG I read about this but I didn't know it's the same place where Janet was about to perform.. The video is horrible :( My thoughts go out to the victims' relatives.

I must say if I was on Janet's team I doubt I would allow her to do the show, for her safety and out of respect to those who have passed.

I agree..

I found this update on Reuters. So far her concert and Maroon 5's haven't been cancelled as of yet, but that could change. I'm from the Midwest and severe weather is nothing to take for granted. That area was under a severe thunderstorm watch for hours prior to the concert. It should have been cancelled. I wouldn't have stayed at an outdoor venue under those conditions. Horrible situation, indeed! God bless them..... :(

I agree. If the fair is still going on, I think that unfortunately, they should cancel all upcoming concerts until the scope of this tragedy is completely dealt with. There is just too much going on with this right now, in my opinion.

Amen! I think severe weather alerts need to be taken more seriously. In the footage I saw of the stage collapse, the weather was already too dangerous to hold a concert and Sugarland's performance should've been cancelled long before it got to that point (to get those people out of the area safely).

Janet's show in Indiana was cancelled due to the accident and she was unable to reschedule due to her schedule. Sad news, this is the first and only cancelled show of the tour so far.

Fans caught Janet in her tour bus at the Detroit show earlier this week:

November 12th 2011 - Johannesburg (Montecasino)

Here's a review of the show:

Janet Jackson: Still The Queen

Janet Jackson’s career has gone through many stages. She started as a child actress with minor roles on TV before breaking out of her family’s shadow with her 1986 album, “Control.” In the 25 years since that album’s release her career has hit dizzying highs and Super Bowl derailing lows. Sunday night she reminded 8,900 fans at the Iowa State Fair just how high those highs were.

Jackson is touring in support of her 2009 greatest hits, “Number Ones,” focusing on her 33 chart-topping singles. The show touched on songs from every era of her career (minus her first two albums), though not always the full versions. During portions of the show Jackson ran through medleys of her hits, hitting the most familiar portions of songs like “You Want This,” “All Right With Me” and “Miss You Much.” She also did a portion of”Scream,” her duet with her brother Michael, with the late singer appearing on the giant video screen behind the stage.

Disappointingly, some songs were handled purely by the backup singers, like “Got Till It’s Gone” and “Any Time, Any Place.”

The show was a stripped down version of the grandeur of past productions like her “Velvet Rope” tour. Seven dancers, five musicians and three backup singers joined her on stage. There were no costume changes, and Janet left most of the heavy dancing to her dancers. But that freed her up in the singing department, making for a pop show where the singer actually was singing her own songs. Strong live vocals win out of heavy choreography any day.

There were video segments running through Jackson’s acting career, including a very dark clip from the sitcom “Good Times,” a scene as Willis’s sister on “Different Strokes,” a raunchy exchange between herself and Tupac Shakur in “Poetic Justice” and a powerhouse scene from “Why Did I Get Married?”

She ran through her slower love songs together, alone on the stage without her dancers. “Nothing,” “Come Back to Me,” “Let’s Wait Awhile” and “Again.” It was a nice quieter stretch mixed in with her livelier songs.

If you were hoping for some more less known tunes or even hits like “Black Cat,” this wasn’t the show for you. This was a Janet Jackson sampler, designed to keep things moving. Ms. Jackson clearly knows how to work a crowd, and they showered her with affection. A number of artists have been tagged with the honorific “Queen of Pop” title over the years, but Jackson’s longevity and body of work make it clear that she is worthy of it.

Why didnt she do that dance part that her & mj do for scream?

I think it has more to do with there not being enough space on stage, you know with the slide than actually making it her own, I think the only reason she does the song other than it appearing on the number ones album is for MJ. I wish she would do the dance, but it does go into Rhythm Nation greatly!

that and i think it would be to painful for her to do the dance alone. At the start of scream it looked like she was having a hard time starting it. She covered her face. She also did it in Together Again. not to mention that the Des moines Stage was small.

^ Great to hear, well the second US leg is now over after the final show in LA, which Queen Latifah, Natalie Cole, Jermaine and Rebbie were all in attendance at the show...

I don't anyone heard BUT Janet will be back on December 5 2011 for a Miami show at the Fillmore!!! Wish I can make it there...

New date:

Miami, Florida - December 5th 2011

Janet's choreographer mentioned a few weeks ago that there will only be 2 more US dates, Miami obviously being the first, so expect another in the near future, then maybe she will hit South America, the tour should last until sometime next year as Janet mentioned on the Paul O'Grady show in the UK.

Janet will be in Abu Dhabi on October 13th, playing the Yas Arena to more than 15,000 fans! Really didn't expect her to do a date in the middle east, maybe this will be the first of a few Middle Eastern dates. Here's the article:

Dubai: Janet Jackson is coming to the UAE.

Opening the new season of Yas Island Show Weekends, the six-time Grammy-Award winning superstar will play at Yas Arena on October 13.

Jackson has chosen Abu Dhabi as one of the 35 international cities on her Number Ones, Up Close and Personal tour.

The All For You singer said this tour would differ from her previous concert schedules in that she would only perform music exclusively from her chart -topping CD Numbers Ones.

“These concerts will be different from anything I have ever done,” she said. “I will be as up close and personal as possible. These concerts are not about special effects. This is a love affair between me and those of you who have supported me and my work for all these years. I’ll be singing and dancing from my heart. The music will all be songs that you’ve made number one for me” she added.

Best-selling artist
Having sold more than 100 million records, Jackson, sister to the late Michael Jackson, is ranked as one of the best-selling artists in the history of contemporary music influencing stars such as Britney Spears, Beyoncé and Rihanna.

The show, courtesy of Flash Entertainment, will host more than 15,000 in the UAE’s capital.

Since its launch in 2010, Yas Island Show Weekends entertained more than 150,000 spectators, with acts including Nelly Furtado, Guns and Roses, The Jonas Brothers and Stevie Wonder.
Surprise

A spokesperson for Flash said the Janet Jackson concert will be the first in a series of surprise announcements to come.

Jackson is no stranger to the UAE having attended a number of high profile events including the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Ball in 2009.

Tickets, priced Dh 265, Dh 365 and Dh 665, are available at http://www.thinkflash.ae/
