Michael fastest selling mj album in 20 years!

You got a USA #1...on the R&B charts. :D Urban America stepped up. Not much we can do about the Subo and Swift supporters. lol. But even so, you have to remember that Susan Boyle's album in holiday related. After the holiday, not much use for Christmas music so sales could drastically drop for her. All Michael has to do is sell consistently and he could very well end up #1 or #2 battling it out with Swift.

If some of you remember with the Thriller25 release, Michael was in the top 10 for WEEKS, hanging on after superhot and popular artists like Alicia Keys and others debuted large and dropped. And these artists had tons of public appearances and promotion. All Michael had was the Luomo Vogue (a magazine that was hard to get in the USA), the Thrillicious campaign, and the Ebony interview as major promotion. Other things were sorta low-key ALTHO the CD did have a nice set-up in stores to get people's attention. And T25 was a CD compilation that many of us already owned several times over, except a completed version of For All Time. Lots of fans complained that no one would be interested in old songs that had been re-re-released. And the outrage some fans demonstrated against those remixes, it really was a surprise that T25 hung on for as long as it did against new, hot, well-promoted artist with new music.

And don't get me started about the "fans" who went on amazon and other sites trashing the remixes and the fact that another re-re-release was being....released. But I digress.

I think some of you are being prematurely pessimistic...for whatever reason...same as ppl were with T25. IMO, it's not always about finishing first...altho we know Michael liked to do so. To me, it's about having a steady lead. And T25 did that...even OUTSELLING those hot new artists it went up against.

How about we hang on for a bit and see where this all goes. :flowers:

If Michael is consistent, and a new single gets more attention/airplay than HMH, it COULD very well do better than it looks at this stage.

I, for one, am proud of the debut when you consider artists like Ciara and Neyo, P-Diddy and others, with ALL their promotion and appearances, are doing much MUCH less. And with all the controversy regarding the vocals, etc...it REALLY is a feat worth appreciating...for me, at least.

Time will tell what happens now.....but we have to be patient. Remember, Boyle is a holiday CD. Her time is short.

Now having said that...

Go Michael!! Congratulations! :punk:

EDIT:

.

I agree Wendy... I think the sales are good considering MJ isn't here with us anymore and the controversy over the vocals.. You're right with all the promo Diddy, Ciara and others have done for their cds, Mike did damn good I would say. Speaking of Neyo did his CD even debut in the top 10? I haven't heard anything about Libra Scale. He needed a good first single and so far his singles have been pretty boring.

Thank you Wendy and Stacy for putting everything in perspective.

I think MICHAEL has done an amazing job considering the big controversy amongst of all ppl his own fans! And of course he is not here to promote.. I am totally shocked that Diddy and those artists that are out there promoting their cds like crazy haven't done better. Wow. Doesn't diddy have like 3 diff. videos of one song? His one video has only about 3 million hits on YT and Michael's with one week less of airplay than his has almost 10 million!

I am actually proud of Michael and the album success so far. You figure SUBO is a Xmas limited thing, and then Swift well we'll deal with her in due time, Ha ha.

I don't know but my feeling is this CD is like fine wine, it will get better and better. I think it is total quality. Invincible sold well only at first, and then it went downhill. I think this CD will be steady and will eventually reach No. 1.

The second single will be key. I think Monster and a video to accompany can take him to the top! and steadily sell more and more albums.

Look, I've already bought 13 cds, I will buy another 13 because I promised all my students they would be getting one, so that will help right? :D

I actually went to purchase a copy from target yesterday but there wasnt one left, SOLD OUT, i was dissapointed but happy that ppl are actually buying it lol

That's great news. BTW, just curious where do you live in the U.S.? I wonder what market is doing well.

Two Cleveland, Ohio area Targets and one Best Buy were all sold out over the weekend!

Maybe Sony didn't send enough shipments so that's why it's sold out?
This is great news but how do they get 223,000 sales if it is sold out everywhere?

That is the reason for the whole low sales in some countries. For example in parts of the Scandinavia you couldn't find the album for days at all but in some parts you could very well. I afraid the same thing has been in UK and US. It just didn't reach everyone it should have. I made a thread about the pressing being late but I don't know what was the real reason and how could it been "intentional mistake". But I know for sure from many sources it wasn't shipped enough from the start. It's one of the biggest mistakes for an album to be "sold out" for customers. You lose many buyers like that. And actually some of then don't even return to buy it if they are not real fans.

If what you said is true, then I really cannot comprehend why Sony didn't ship enough albums out. Sony is no mom and pop shop.

Well, there will be more shipments coming in and it will keep selling.

The key here is for the album to be a consistenT seller. Not just sell the first week and stop. If 'MICHAEL" is a steady seller then that is what matters most.

It looks like ppl are buying it- hence- sold outs. So that is good news to me.

I honestly don't think it was a deliberate mistake, of course not, I just think, maybe they thought it would take a certain amount of time to have it processed and it didn't, idk, I'm no expert, but I think in the end it will be okay.

Well, that is my positive take on this. GO MICHAEL!!!

Michael is dead.. and since his death he's sold over 30 million cds since June 25th 2009. I don't think that's underperforming or a failure.

Do you really think the media is going to concentrate on that? Yeah right! They will say "MJ's album underperformed" blah blah blah. Sure, MJ's album will continue to sell and perform well in the long haul BUT do you think the media will wait it out to form an accurate opinion? Um.... me thinks not.

The reason they didn't send out much is because they didn't EXPECT the sales and demand to be as high as it is, and in two days China goes on sale and they are really pressured to get more albums out

I wonder, when they count US sales, if it is also iTunes and Amazon? If not, it's really hard to compare numbers, because there are more ways to buy an album now.

I got my 3 from amazon.com. not downloads but CDs

I don't get how they would think the demand wouldn't be there. It's the first new Michael album in 9 years.Or maybe I am wrong in thinking that.

I don't think you're wrong, but I think Sony is purposely not promoting the album as much as they could or should. Michael Jackson just died last year, you would think they'd be making a huge deal out of this and cramming it down the public's throats, but they aren't. Why is that? I think they don't really care if it does that well. They've already got what they needed out of MJ's death. 30 million albums sold in a year since his passing? Wow, and think how much more is to come. They've made so much $$$$$$$$$$ off of him, it's ridiculous! But I am very surprised to see such little promotion.. it must be because they just know MJ will always be selling.

Good and bad news that many places have sold out but would have been better for the albums performance had people been able to buy it.

Sony's mess up on that part, they messed up in Invincible. As soon as I heared they signed an MJ contract for another 7 years. I was like: "Mike wouldn't like that at all".

I didn't either.

right, seriously what did people expect from sony? that they actually learn from their mistakes? hahaha for god's sake, it's SONY!!!

they already also fucked up thriller 25, by undershipping in the states. so in the end, the album was sold out in most stores and michael ended up being only #2 in the weekly sales charts.

in terms of our dear michael, sony just WANTS to do everything wrong, regardless if its Invincible back then or Michael now...

Do we know total worlwide sales yet?

^ thank you :) I just read an article stating a way to high number.. thanks for breaking it down.. this is more believable

Gosh. Dangerous is like 20 years old? Unbelievable!

Michael is doing great considering some fans are still boycotting and spreading negative comments every country you know

One thing I can tell ya is

People in Korea don't buy U.S. pop singer's CDs as they used to 10 years ago, because now K-pop is the hottest in Asia.
It's just amazing to see Michael is number 2 on the Top 10 selling albums this week.
(That's something never happens here. Michael used to top on the chart for singers from other countries
but had not made top ten for several years except for DVD chart, if my memory serves me right)
This week, on the chart you can see nine teams from Korea, only one singer from other country - It's Michael

No other singers from the U.S. or U.K. can do that.
This is something that ONLY OUR KING OF POP CAN DO

Just a message to all people who are sony bashing...

They never under shipped the album, they OVERshipped it, they expected sales of 335,000 in the first week... they got 228,000... in short the US is not Michael country, Michael even started to distance himself from it. HIStory tour only had 2 shows in the US and both were in Hawaii! His final This Is It shows were to be in London! not New York or LA. He was slapping the US back for all the punches they threw him. STOP blaming Sony for EVERYTHING! It's about the sales, if people don't demand it, then they won't ship it, and trust me MJ's market is not the US anymore, hence why they put the Michael poster at Heathrow airport and not JFK or something.
Think about it, why would Sony pay millions for an advertising campaign in a country that a). don't care and b). are in an economic mess?
They wouldn't.
They are focusing on countries that have recovered or are recovering and that have a strong MJ fan base (UK, Japan & China mainly) i like their strategy to get sales, it is realistic and will open markets for future releases.

there were youtube videos out where people in the usa were crowding MJ's suv begging him to tour in the usa for this is it tour, so usa fans bashing is unfounded, here. Invincible's YRMW reached number 5 on the usa singles chart, and both shows at MSG (Madison Square Garden in USA, in New York, where JFK airport is) sold out, in 2001.

it's one thing to blast the usa media and government,,, for how they treated MJ..that's ok, but not the usa fans. there are plenty of usa fans that have always supported Michael. they went crazy for him at the Augdier party in the usa in 2008, and those were just random people..they didn't know that MJ was coming.

OH! :bugeyed i didn't mean the fans... the media and the environment and everyone else in the country were generally unsupportive and still are. Im just going by MJ's words and actions before his death
