Michael Jackson Sells Over 1 Billion Records Worldwide (Still waiting to be confirmed))

theyve been saying 750 million forever.. even when they would say Thriller sold 50 million , 60 million.. then 104 million.. But the 750 million never moved lol! Not to mention the other albums that have been sold and released since.. It's gotta be over 1 billion by now.. Does anyone have individual album sale list closest updated version?

:clapping:
The 750million mark was being said about 10/12 years ago (before invincible, if I remember correctly)..........

.....and Michael's music have never stop selling, every year his combined sales are at least a million!!!!

So a billion sales is very easy to believe in!!!.......and if it isn't, it's just a matter of time!!!!!!

this is a very good news-well done Michael:) for sure he sold 1 billion records! and think that this is only the legal stuff, think how many downloads he has, and how many views on Youtube!

like i said earlier, 750 million was said at beginning of the 90s

If it was said when Michael was here then it can't be 750 still. It has gone up. I wish it would be confirmed if it was a billion but it can't be 750.

i'm fan since '87
and i heart that at the beginning of the 90's. fact

No, you are mistaken...., even during HIStory promo in 1995 Sony presented 150 mill. mark/albums.
At that time or later 1998-2000, Julio Iglesias was named as the biggest selling solo male artist in the Guinness Book... with 200 mill. albums (released 70 albums), in the UK Cliff Richard is named as the best seller with 250 mill. records..., what about Elton John... and so on... Russian legend Ala Pugatcheva has sold 200 mill. records, ... and so on...

We all know that all the numbers for the Beatles, but especially for Elvis and Michael are extremely overrated...

Sorry mate, but you ARE wrong. I was there at the Earl's court when Michael received the Guinness records prize and that's when it was mentioned for the first time. If you heard it before, it was produced by fans because it wouldn't make any sense to honour him for 750 in 2006 if he already had achieved it during the 90's.

Now I can not say that the one billion thing is wrong, but I can say that the 750M thing was first mentioned in 2006. November I believe.

I watched an old VHS from around HIStory. They said 200 million.

That on the other hand is a severe underestimation! Sony would indeed be the only party who could clarify the truth or at least give a serious estimation. No VHS, no MTV, no documentary makers because you never ever get to know who it was that made the claim. It could very well be a very misinformed fan.

Are they talking about sales of albums, dvds, videos etc? Because I saw a mariah carey cd of hits and on the back it said 200 million she sold in albums, dvds and videos etc. Looking at all sales.

1 billion most be all units - CD's, VHS, singles, DVD's, Blu-Rays, dolls and other merchandise etc.

1 billion is 1.000.000.000 units - That's A LOT !!!

The Beatles have outsold Michael Jackson. They had 38 different songs hit #1 somewhere in the world and 42 years after the breakup of the band they are still selling.

What was the biggest selling album of the last decade (2000-2009)?

The Beatles "1".

I'm not getting the application or what that has to do with this thread... but ok.

It doesn't matter how well the Beatles sell, and it's all the better for Michael's Estate. He owns those songs.

We dont doubt it, The Beatles are the best sellers...., but Michael as an artist is commercially - the best seller.
Only two of his albums have reached 100 mill. copies (Thriller + BAD)...., see the point?

I was hoping to read more about the '1 billion' records from the Estate during the hand and footprint imprint ceremony !

Who cares bout the Beatles? Michael owns they ass!

I think Michael did quite well considering he went solo and The Beatles was group. The Beatles had four members
producing songs for the band, but there was only one MJ. Also MJ had only seven albums to compare countless
albums from The Beatles. (I can't say that they are all good).

I cannot resist this one: What was the biggest selling album ever? Thriller :D

^ I agree. The Beatles were good but not all of their albums are "excellent" like Michael's

While Beatles "outsold" Michael, Michael has the largest sale ratio o albums.. MUCH higher than The Beatles and Elvis. Michael has only released a hand full of albums and has reach hights that are insane.. I remember I did the math comparing sale ration at one point betweeen the 3 and Michael smashed theres by huge numbers.

It's easier to reach 30 million sales when releasing 30 albums than release 1 and reach that same number. For someone to release 30 albums and selling 60 million is not nearly as big of a success of someone releasing 2 albums and reaching 40 million..

That would mean the person releasing 30 albums sold 2 million per album (evenly spread) while the person releasing 2 albums sold 20 million per album (evenly spread).. that second artist has MUCH stronger power and made a much bigger impact.

The Beatles and Elvis released WAYYYY more albums than Michael did.

I have always felt MJ should have released many more albums. - But then again - Quality over quantity. MJ never released a bad album, Elvis and Beatles has many weak albums- (IMO!)

1 Billion?????:wild:

Michael Jackson is the King Of Music!

I agree. Michael broke records with the albums he did do.

I agree with most of that, but I think you'll find MJ sold plenty of 'Bad' albums!

I'll get my coat...

Michael did not release an album for a very good reason.. ASIDE from the perfectionist side of him with quality..

He understood time between each album creates demand. almost every album was considered a "Come Back" album. Simular to how every MJ tour was his "last" one. It creates a demand and interest that those who release yearly do not get..

If Michael released an album with his same quality, his sale ration would have been lower because of the demand drop.. It makes a huge difference.

Of course I wish I had more music from Michael, but i understand the reason behind it and have always supported the idea.... Even if it torchers me.

He's even talked about it before, I don't remember where
