Michael Jackson’s Halloween - New animated special coming this fall

My biggest Chinese fanclub didn't get invite either, nor did many other old fan club leaders.
I guess the estate want to enlarge their friend circle and reach to new fan groups this time for a try.

Thank you guys, but if anything ever comes through I will now always select a member from here as without you guys this place is nothing but a bunch of pages created by me.

Anyway we're veering OT now - back to the topic in hand...(y)
 
I can not wait to see this i am so excite i am like a little kid. i will have me some popcorn and something to drink like i am at the show. :punk:

Aaaaah! I was flipping channels just now and Entertainment Tonight just signed off with a 5 second clip of Michael Jackson's Halloween!! All I could tell is Jim Parsons is a dancing scarecrow and there were a lot of dancing pumpkins! :)
 
This actually looks like something Michael would of done! Fantastic animation!

Michael adored animation.

Estate this has to be put onto a Halloween special release along with thriller 3d and ghosts.

Now do something along theses lines with threatened!

Michael left many wishes and this I believe was a project deep in his heart he wanted to complete.

When and how will we see this in UK???

Visually it actually looks really shit - like one of those b-grade children's animations you'd find on a $3 bargain bin DVD that no-one ever buys from.

But honestly if the story and characters etc are great, then perhaps it can be overlooked and it'll do it's job and gain MJ some new young fans.

I think it looks great. - It's made in a childish way.

The Dangerous Glass - Bubles - there where many great things there.

Can't wait to see it. - And I look forward to see how they get the songs incorporated.

Hope this will be a huge succes and children (and their parents) will watch it year after year at Halloween.

I agree with Hess, It looks amazing and well made.That Dangerous album cover glass was gorgeous! :love: If this Halloween special "looks shit, "the rest of the animations look as well compared to Pixar.

Oh god, don't compare this to Pixar. Pixar's films look eons better than this (although you would expect it, given their budget and the fact they're state of the art in almost every aspect for animation). Yeah the Dangerous album glass looks alright but the environment in the forest/pumpkin field? Yikes.

While I obviously never watch children's animation, it doesn't typically have the best animation which is why I don't expect it to be to the level of Pixar, but it's just the small things that get me, like the poor draw distance in the pumpkin field? The flat textures? The dancing animation that looks un-natural and un-characteristically repetitive (as in, each character is dancing the exact same animation - no slight variance accounting for their shape, weight, whatever. Makes it feel un-natural and copy/pasted).

Granted you only see dancing for a handful of seconds, which is why like everything else I'm going to leave my final reservations until I see a copy of the film (hopefully in high definition) given the shortness of the teaser. Maybe it'll look typical of your average children's CGI programme, but maybe I just have higher standards for feature film animation in 2017, commissioned by a company with as much financial and industry resources as the MJ Estate and Sony?

Children watch this type of animation all of the time, and love it. But then, they still retain an element of fun and wonder in life. They certainly don't sit there calculating each characters dimensions and perceived weight, analysing how they might dance differently to each other in a formation. LOL

It's a bit of Halloween fun for the young, or young at heart. Its probably not meant for analytical animation connoisseurs.

It's going to have great MJ music, great MJ references, and it looks like it could bring more youngsters to the brilliance of the man.

If MJ is up there looking down, I think he would be laughing and smiling at the children loving it (which they will), and ignoring the grown ups humbugging it in the corner.

Another great idea from The Estate. Keep 'em coming! :yes:

...why are we aiming to only work to the standard of young children, which aren't exactly high either? Should we master the film in mono too, I don't think little children are going to notice will notice that. Hell I doubt children can tell the difference between 480p and 1080p too, might as well save rendering time, resources and money for the Estate and just master it in 480p too!

I see so many fans go on about how they want this to be a timeless halloween animated special, the kind that gets replayed every year... yet some are fine with them skimping out on what is essentially fundamental animation basics? Different characters of different sizes move differently and for a film based on someone who is widely considered the world's greatest dancer, it's bizarre some fans would actually be fine with them skimping out on the dance animations? Like so what if little children won't pick up on it? That's not the standard we should be working to. Hell, I even wonder 'why bother' if they can't get these basics right. If they have the characters dancing in the exact same way, as if the animator just did one animation and copy/pasted it all across the board, it's going to come off cheesy, soulless, robotic, un-natural and above all, cheap.

What makes a film great is always going to be the story and it's characters, how well it's executed. That's always the core of it but you still need to get the other aspects right, especially if they're basics. Go look at the most respected animations - the ones that actually do get replayed every year (which is what you fans seem to want with this film?). You'll notice along side a well-told story with great rememberable characters, they appeal to a greater age range than just children, that the animators have evidently put a lot of thought, love soul and dedication into the style, it's animation, dialogue, music, everything. They go the extra mile - little details matter in art! Michael Jackson knew that and he worked to that level - if not beyond that.

This is no different for animation, even if it is aimed at children. If fans want this to be the special that people actually return to and enjoy year after year, then basics and little details like this do matter. Once again I can't properly judge because I've only seen short snippets so I'm going to reserve my proper judgement until I see the film (or at least, a dance sequence for this particular thing). Hell, I hope that what I saw was misleading and that the dancing animations do actually vary slightly for the different creatures.
 
Starting to look unlikely that this will be showing in the UK. Surely there would be some kind of air date announced or perhaps promo if it was coming@

"It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" a 1966 cartoon airs on TV every year and is very popular. As far as ratings goes it outperforms most new shows. Same is true for "Charlie Brown Christmas" (1965). So being timeless isn't based on technical side of animation , it's based on content.
 
B grade graphics or not, I can appreciate the effor put into it. honestly from the original picture it is better graphic than I thought it would be so I am not disapointed.. to me, most important is that on CBS they are going to air an MJ themed special, secondly I hope the story is decent - good.
 
I do hope Threatened is in this - as well as Is It Scary/ 2 Bad, as they weren't on the Scream album - but I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't
 
The fantasy aspect of Michael is a key component of his artistry and philosophy. I'm glad it's being honoured :)
 
seeing the skeloton, I'd have to say i thought of Ghosts. they could have done an animated sequel!

Well, I'm excited as heck and I certainly didn't see anything second rate with the animation/dancing in a 3 second clip. Definitely reminded me of Pixar (which I admit had to grow on me, since I grew up with the beautiful Disney animation, but love it now).

I went crazy over that Dangerous window-and the quick glimpse of the pumpkins dancing was wonderful-the story will make or break this. I was little when the Peanuts specials began and tonight it'll be 50 years since I first saw "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" and I'll be watching it again. I hope this special will be the same for generations to come.

So yes content is king and it will ultimately be content that makes this timeless, but it also doesn’t mean we can’t have standards for the more technical side of things in 2017.

Don’t get me wrong with all this, I do hope this film does wonderfully and I’ve always supported the idea behind it. I can be happy with a simple look for cartoons, I suppose just with 3D CGI animation in particular I do expect a higher standards nowadays. I just want a certain standard on both story and technical fronts to be fulfilled, that’s all :)

from what I am seeing, this is right down an MJ themed story... learning to be yourself, don't conform to what people want you to be! that's Michaels story!
