Sony closes deal on buying 50% stake of Mijac catalog

Well, their salary is paid by the estate, but they can't just take out additional money for themselves like it's their bank account.
whta do u mean???? the estate is paying branca and mclain??

now im confused i thought branca and mclain were the estate
No. The estate is the estate, which is a trust that owns all of Michael's possesions, basically took Michael's place. Look at it like a company. The company owns everything Michael Jackson owned and Branca/Mclain are the managers, but don't own it.

ohhh ok

Katherine said her son’s assets have remained in the estate and have not been transferred to the Trust as instructed in the Will.

In addition, Katherine said Paris and Blanket objected to the deal. She said Michael’s son Prince “deferred to the probate court.”

“Michael’s intention is crystal clear. Article III states in plain language that the “entire estate” shall be given to the Trust,” the motion read.

If Michael would have been 100% against his catalogue being sold -ever- he could have explicitly given that direction in his will. He could have stated that his wishes be that none of the publishing rights that he owns ever be sold. That includes his music or the ATV catalogue. In which case the executors couldn’t have sold them. Similar to how he explicitly stated in his will that Rowe get nothing. But he didn’t do that. He left everything in Branca and McClain’s hands to manage as they saw best after having done business with them for decades. Michael grew up in the music business and he understood it well. So these facts should tell us that he was open to the possibility of the catalogues being sold in case of his death and he was ok with that if Branca and McClain thought it best for his legacy and his children.

Also, if Sony spends hundreds of millions of dollars on the MJ rights, you better believe they’re going to invest a lot in protecting and growing the brand in order to recoup their investment. Much much more than anything MJ’s kids, who know nothing about the business and only knew MJ as their father, could ever do. So this is in the best interest of both MJs kids who benefit from the proceeds of the sale and MJ’s legacy for putting his music in the hands of someone who wants and knows how to best preserve it.

If Michael had issues with Branca he wouldn’t have made him executor of his estate. As for Karen Faye, she was hired to do his makeup and I believe that was the extent of her relationship with Michael. Anything beyond that I believe is pure speculation on her part not based on anything he told her.

If his kids were against the sale, they could have joined Katharine in her lawsuit to block the deal but they didn’t.

Additionally, the farther away the publishing rights go from the estate the lower the probability of lying grifters becomes. You can’t sue MJ’s companies for allegedly conspiring for him to molest you 30 years ago if they no longer exist because their assets have been liquidated.

If the current estate is illegitimate, it'll be found out and dealt with it soon. Just like Jimi Hendrix's estate. It won't take much longer in that case.

Just heard on twitter that the kids were against the sale!

wait so this means the kids dont get inhertiance?

So it's seemingly not clear the sale is actually legal. The problem might be, unless Katherine gets the money the executors owe her, she can't afford to properly contest it? This is not the first we hear of that situation over the years. It seems they are back binding her still. If so, they’ve done her very wrong for a long time.

With a corporate/estate executors delirious press release, and on the other hand an MJVibe article with somewhat unclear sources, the estate looks confident in a sale.

But such confidence is a political game.

If we take any corporate hype simply at face value (without overt context), we likely become unknowing players in lawyer's games. We should heed our best instincts to avoid this.

They are still hung up on the fact that on the date in the will MJ was not in L.A. They've been contesting that since years, claiming the will is fraudulent, but nothing ever came of it. But really, if that will was fake or outdated, where is the real one?? It's been 15 years, no one ever came forward with an actual newer will. So why would it not be legitimate. I'd say, sour grapes. And respectfully, what a 92 year old woman wants is irrelevant. People still clinging to this notion that you should keep your catalog until all eternity, are from yesteryear with outdated views. Physical albums are not selling anymore, streaming makes little to no money to the individual artist. Better cash in now. Every major artist has sold their catalog in the past 10 years. Are they all idiots without counsel?? Unlike them, MJ's estate still holds on to 50 % of the catalog, while still making more money for the other 50 % than anyone else, so it's the best of both worlds. A huge cash injection while still controlling and holding on to the catalog. They've done great. And yes, eventually the children are the ones profiting. Katherine will be out of the picture soon.

*cough, cough* the alleged suicide of Peter Lopez (April 2010) comes to mind
Well, alleged "not suicide". Was there a robbery too? Does he keep his stuff at home? Would he be the only one knowing about the will?? 3 people signed the 2002 will as witnesses, I'd imagine there be witnesses on subsequent wills too. Also if he had a will, he had 10 months to file it.

It's a bit odd to bring that up if Katherine is claiming here that the executors aren't even following that 2002 will...

Not very respectful....

What's the point of a will at all if it's not being followed anyway??
