Thats what you get for being polite

This is one of The Jacksons best songs ever! The lyrics, which I believe Michael co-wrote, are great. It's kind of an autobiographical song I think, the lyrics can be applied to Michael's life in more ways than one. I agree that it's quite underrated though which is a shame, really a great song.

I LOVE that song! Easily one of my all-time favorites from the Destiny album! I love the way Michael sang the song for one thing, and I love how he sings it from his soul. I always suspected that that song was about him in someway, so that's not particularly surprising to me. But that is very sad though. I always find myself wanting to give Michael a hug after I hear that song lol.

that song is truth right there. lol!

This really is a great song. I agree it doesnt get as much recognition

" You push me away " is my favorite from that album ...

Michael Jackson Explains the Meaning Behind the Song “That’s What You Get for Being Polite”
December 17, 2024
In his book Moonwalk, Michael expresses that he felt stress in 1977 in terms of balancing the responsibilities of both music and acting, given he was filming “The Wiz” at the time. He says that the song “That’s What You Get for Being Polite” which he co-wrote with his brother Randy, “was my way of letting on that I knew I wasn’t living in ivory tower and that I had insecurities and doubts just as all older teenagers do.”

In a sense I agree, also one of my favourite MJ songs. I think most of this album is somewhat underrated.
At the same time, I understand why it's not up there with MJ's most well-known songs, because it's not a very cheerful song and not everyone will relate to the lyrics (even MJ in that quote mentioned before sound like he doesn't want to relate to it anymore).
