The Discussion of MJ's Unreleased Tracks

Pop Music and all that it Entails. An album and the huge amount of judgement it undergoes.

It's probably worth its own thread really, did Michael enjoy making albums more when he was the main producer, or did he prefer the times with Quincy and his brothers and collabing more in a sense?
I like this question.

I feel like it was both. Michael was a great collaborator and had no problem helping with writing songs or lending his voice for uncredited backing vocals....I love his work with his brothers as well as his work with Q [I wonder what Triumph would've been like had Q produced it] but I also feel he loved having that freedom of creating his own music with no restrictions

I'm building an entire fantasy interview in my head around this brilliant question.

I agree that MJ seemed to have lost interest in full-fledged albums and eras, which I'm sure was compounded by the Sony conflict and the dissolution with 2 Seas. I don’t think that he lost his passion for making music, as evidenced by the fact that he never stopped. Even during trial prep, he was writing new songs and returning to older demos.

I think the latter. I think MJ enjoys collaboration, but it became pretty evident that he preferred being the boss and calling the shots.
I didn't even think of the Sony stuff. Thriller 25 popped up but I didn't quite connect it to my point for some reason. It did feel very contractual though.

MJ just was waiting for the time when he could put out music for the love of it without all the excess stigma attached.

I haven’t seen anyone ever talk about it, so I wanted to bring up

What are the chances any 35/16 MM Reels or Copies leak? Is there any collector in possession of any Reels whether it be the short films, concerts or anything else?
I vaguely remember the 35mm reel for Thriller being put up for auction a few years ago.

Someone has the Pepsi reels and cleaned it up

# I'm Into Something Good
# Ferry 'Cross The Mersey

A DVD of the making of the recording of "I Have This Dream" in the Metropolis Studio was played in court. It showed screaming fans mobbing the star as he arrived, then Jackson singing a few lines from "I'm Into Something Good" and "Ferry 'Cross The Mersey" before trying a couple of lines from "I Have This Dream".

Does anyone have a reliable source or link to a report from the London trial?

Didn't they play "He who makes the sky Grey" and some other Bahrain recordings in the Trial as well?
The report should give us a few insights

Trial in London? When was this?

Do you think MJ really recorded Robert Burns' poems? I really have serious doubts that MJ recorded anything.

David Gest revealed in several interviews that he and Michael Jackson recorded several old Robert Burns poems with new, innovative music. Three of them were ‘Ae Fond Kiss’, ‘A Red, Red Rose’ and ‘Tam O’Shanter’. Gest: "We haven't changed the lyrics but the music is now modern and brought up to date," Gest said. "Michael and I had fun. It's something we have always wanted to do…because he is our favourite poet."

Assuming this story is true and no disrespect to Michael but even actors struggle to recite Robert Burns' poetry. It isn't easy. It's harder than Shakespeare for many people.

Here's the first two stanzas from Tam o' Shanter:

When chapman billies leave the street,
And drouthy neebors, neebors meet,
As market-days are wearing late,
An’ folk begin to tak the gate;
While we sit bousing at the nappy,
And getting fou and unco’ happy,
We think na on the lang Scots miles,
The mosses, waters, slaps and styles,
That lie between us and our hame,
Whare sits our sulky sullen dame,
Gathering her brows like gathering storm,
Nursing her wrath to keep it warm.

This truth fand honest Tam o’ Shanter,
As he frae Ayr ae night did canter,
(Auld Ayr, wham ne’er a town surpasses,
For honest men and bonny lasses.)

What info do we have on the Buz Kohan tracks...
MJ spent about a year writing music with Buz Kohan between 1983-84 for the Peter Pan project, of which four songs exist: “Make a Wish", “Neverland Landing,” “I’m Peter Pan” and “Happy Song”. The first two exist in some state. I believe “Neverland Landing” is complete and “Make a Wish” was at the very least demoed, as Spielberg would regularly put his child to sleep with a cassette of it.

"we also wrote a song called 'Neverland Landing' which was done completely and there is a demo with piano that I played at the house. I have it somewhere but can't put my hands on it immediately." - Buz Kohan

He had other songs written with Kohan. Do you know more about the other sessions? In my opinion Michaels’ best ballads come from his sessions with Kohan

There’s another song called Heartlight that was rumored to be written by Buz and MJ for E.T. but Matt Forger confirmed to his knowledge the song didn’t exist and no other songs were considered outside of Someone in the Dark

Make a wish is confirmed to have full vocals and is releasable by Joe Vogel. He also said happy song and Peter Pan “were recorded” but it’s unknown if it’s scratch vocals, full vocals, chorus only etc. I’d love to hear them one day!

Buz has the songs. As I always say, Michael's music is with the co-writers
