First of all, cool Ghosts siggy :D

I haven't, but I talked to my sis about Vista today and she said she thought it wasn't worth it (she works for HP). She said it takes up a lot of memory, more than 600 MB for Windows alone to run.

I'm not good at this stuff, to be honest, but since we talked about it today, I thought I'd reply :p

Yep, Vista is a cool, but it has the harshest hardware requirements of any MS OS to date. To use all of the features of Windows Vista, you need a 1 GHz processor, 512 mb recommended or 1 gb of ram for optimum, 15 gb hard disk space and a DirectX 9-capable video card...This specification is just the recommended...if u need performance...u need high ram and processor speed.
i liked the new aero glass interface in windows vista ...it gives a cool look! and whole layout of the GUI has been changed to make things easier and more attractive to use.
Since the aero glass interface thingy requires a dx9 capable gpu, a lot of our older desktops and laptops won't be able to use aero glass, even if they meet the other requirements such as ram and processor speed. So installing vista can be proved as trouble to most of us...LOL!
Overall, Vista is a quite different from previous Windows operating systems. Many of the tools are similar, but there is still a lot to learn. Hope-Fully!
LOL...here pirated cd's of vista OS are available...I have not installed on my machine as i am waiting for the original one. :innocent:

3Ghz 64bit CPU
1GB of memory
128MB GeForce 6800 Video Card (Direct X9)

PS: Rita, I would not suggest using the pirate copies of Vista. The activation thing is incredibly clever on this version and your PC will slowly begin to cripple itself over time (1 month or less) looks like Microsoft have SERIOUSLY pushed the boat out on stopping people from copying it.

I'm definitely thinking of getting the full version (retail) later this year, for now I'll stick to XP I think :)

I need to upgrade my ram...i have 512 mb!

Vista is quite expensive. i mean microsoft has tried to mitigate this by releasing different versions of vista with different price and cause more confusion than necessary.
Here in india the original full version is expected to be available for $400-$450, and that does not sound cheap.
I wonder what must be price there in uk?

As for now i am interested in looking for the installation of windows vista. lets hope that it ask for minimum restarts :doh:
we are going to install vista on couple of machines too for rnd purpose. Original cd's will be provided to us from the client side.

But still like winxp....cracks for activation of vista will be available soon. :p
 
Its about £170 for Vista Home Premium (£115 for the upgrade version). So its not tooo bad considering the usual Microsoft pricing.
 
Thats seems to much price difference then ....it's almost difference of 50-40 $

But the thing to see how vulnerable is vista against viruses/trojans & provides network security, although
it is not a server operating system, but still machines running on vista will go on network.

Even before the release of it, there were rumors that beta is being attacked by virus and microsoft explained some sh1t like this "Attack on vista was not a virus, in fact, it was a virus that targets Microsoft Scripting Host (code-named Monad), an object-oriented, Microsoft .NET-based command-line environment. And although Microsoft Scripting Host might be installable on Vista Beta 1, the environment doesn't come with Beta 1 and won't appear in future betas or the final release, furthermore, the new Vista security subsystem isn't even enabled in Beta 1."
LOL ...i still dont understand what they meant to say!

For defence against viruses non-microsoft OS are the best like Mac OS X.
