yep, i asked about the Holubtsi ( Cabbage Rolls ) With Rice and Buckwheat Filling

i heard our relatives in Moldova and Romania used the Cabbage Leaves or Leaves of the Grapes for it.
and inside is the forcemeat ( often Pork or Beef. Or better to mix it, like my grandmother always did, cuz the pork have a lot of fat...) and also inside is the rice, fried carrot and sweet pepper, fried onions, salt, pepper..

so, i wondered what is the original name of this meal in Romania. hmm..

well, i heard the hutsuls making it with potato and fennel inside..

we are so close, yet so far..
so, there exist the difference in some meal making..

Fujon, the name of the meal is SARMALE and if they are small SARMALUTE

Let me post some pics about it and I'm gonna give you the receipt also ;)

I warn you, though: is not a diet meal

My sarmale receipt:

Leafs from 2 – 3 sour cabbages
1 kilo of minced meat (pork, beef, pork, veal, or a combination),
1 cup of rice
2 onions
various spices (savory, basil, salt, pepper and a touch of paprika)
Before I start mixing these, I pour 1 coup of tomato juice on the mixture. Don’t put it in the blender, the combination is mixed with your bare hands.
Take one by one the leafs from the cabbage and put a small amount of mixture and roll.
I use a clay pot special for sarmale. I dunno why but the taste is more delicious from that pot. You put one by one the rolls in the pot and cover with a sauce. The sauce is made from 1 part tomato juice, 1 part water and also a combination of the above mentioned spices – don’t forget savory, this receipt is all about SAVORY. Another “secret” of the receipt is the amount of fat it contains…so here the meat supposed to be fat

I gave up eating sarmale cause is not good for my health. Instead I made veggy sarmale. I put mushrooms and carrots and a large amount of rice, and use olive-oil. I keep the spices. Is all in the spices
