Thriller Won 8 Grammies? But sometimes they say 7!

Many times in the news and on TV they mentioned that Michael Jackson won 7 Grammy awards for the record Thriller. In 1983 in a single event he won 7 awards for Thriller and one for E.T. and (pls. correct me if I am wrong) in 1984 he won another Grammy for Thriller, that makes them 8 in total.

So why they say 7?

I checked already at the official Grammy website, in total he won 8 for Thriller: "7" in 1983 and "1" in 1984 = 8

Yes he also one another Grammy for E.T. in 1983 which makes him the first and only artist as of today to win "8" Grammies in a single event (1983).

i'm not sure but i think carlos santana has tied MJ for eight, later.

but your question is definitely worth thinking about.
 
Yeah I know all 8 grammies were won in 84 i'm just mentioning how many he got for thriller and that the 8th one he got was from E.T.
 
Actually I am not asking to know how many he won, I already know I just donno why the media is confused which is very strange such things could happen in advanced countries. Please check the following screenshots which I took from Grammy official site from their archives of Grammy Winners and take notice of the last screenshot.

It actually bothers me because this is probably “intentional”. Who can make such a mistake in one of history’s most remarkable achievement in Music Industry! Who would not properly document these statistics! This is happening in the largest Press and TV networks in the US and carried forward to the rest of the world. I do pay attention when they talk about his Grammy awards, they don’t say he won 7 Grammies in a single event for Thriller and then he won the 8th Grammy later, they say 7 awards! I’ve heard it many times and I can prove it. It is shocking! Those people should keep track!!

And even at Award shows when he is introduced, Michael Jackson doesn’t even correct them in his speech I never heard him say anything about it. I thought “I” was wrong, but after I checked several times I noticed that even several websites make the same mistake. Is this ignorance or is it a conspiracy against Michael Jackson! I am not trying to make this subject a big issue, I just don’t accept this.

Michael Jackson released some short films and in Moonwalker at 10:14 you will see 8 Grammies listed also on his 2001 Thriller album release on the cover it shows number “8” on the bottom right corner.

So is that true the media did make such a stupid mistake? Do they often make other mistakes as well? They are misleading the public and nobody is checking. I don’t want to blow this subject out of content but this one of the things that proves Michael’s remarks about the media.

That night surrounding MJ 9 grammy's were won..

8 for thriller... (7 went to MJ)

1 for E.T.... (went to MJ)


MJ won 8
Thriller won 8

MJ won 7 for Thriller

that is where the 7 comes from

Michael as an artist won that award for best producer as well so one Grammy is counted for him and one for Quency Jones.

Lets do the math:

1983 = 8 Grammies
1984 = 1 Grammy
Total = 9

Thriller = 8
E.T. = 1

Thriller, the actual record won a total of 8 Grammys in 1983- the 8th award was for Best Engineered Recording (Bruce Swedien) for Thriller.

Baby, you think that's bad?

I was on the train on my way to my show and reading the electronic ticker for the news. It scrolled a brief "This day in history" and I learned on FEB. 28, 1984 Michael Jackson won a record 8 emmys in one night.:blink: Ever since then I don't trust that thing to tell me what day of the week it is.

the only explanation I can offer is that the media gets caught up on the one year total and leaves out the grammy earned the following year for Thriller.

that is my guess anyway :D

I have every grammy award MJ has been on... I have a DVD of EVERY grammy appearance..


Michael did not get ANY grammy's between 1981-1983

EVERY grammy award regarding THRILLER album came in 1984

1984: MJ won 8 grammy's (7 for thriller, 1 for E.T) Thriller got 8 grammy's that night but one did not go to him..

Thriller Making Of won a grammy in 1985

1986 he won grammy's for 'we are the world'

OFF TOPIC:
2005 was the FIRST year MJ did not recieve any awards.. So 2005 and 2007 are the only years he did not recieve awards from award shows.. Since 1982..

How can you disagree? :huh: Type in Bruce Swedien, and you will see he won an award for Thriller as well, making 8 wins for the album Thriller. Michael won 7 of those awards (and an 8th in the same year) and Bruce Swedien won for best engineered recording. Does that not make sense? :unsure: We're talking about wins for the actual album Thriller, right? :unsure:

Now it is more confusing! it is mentioned that the Gammies awarded on 1984 and the 8th Grammy for Thriller on 1985! But they have given the credit to Michael Jackson for the 8th Grammy of Thriller and it is listed on his personal awards list. However, the info is not the same on Grammy.com! No matter if the years are not the same still Michael gets the 9 awards (8 Thriller 1 E.T.) as per wikipedia.
 
Mike won EIGHT in one night, Santana tied him. They're saying he won SEVEN for "Thriller" in one night, which IN ESSENCE, is most times any artist has won for a single album. But if you wanna "dispute" that, oh well.
