What do you think about the promotional efforts so far for Xscape and for the singles?

Overall, I have very mixed feelings about the promotion for Xscape and for the singles so far. In the early stages, there was definitely a lot of promotion for the album and first single LNFSG in terms of banner ads, billboards, radio play, tv tie-ins, corporate sponsorships and the Billboard performance. However, I was disappointed with the gap between the release of the first and second single which was a bit too long in my opinion, especially in countries where LNFSG and the album had already began to drop such as the UK and US. Moreover, I was not fully satisfied with the video for APWNN. Although, I love the unreleased footage of Michael, I am not sure this was the time or place to use this footage. Moreover, I think the first part of the video seems more appropriate as a commercial for Jeep than as a state of the art music video. To me, this song was the perfect opportunity to create something really magical and breathtaking in accordance with the lyrics of the song. Had they done so, this may have resulted in more media buzz for the video and encouraged more people to watch it over and over and to tell their friends about it. Instead, we are left with a product that doesn't have a single scene or special effect that makes you want to watch the video again other than the footage of Michael. Finally, instead of fully promoting this single on all radio formats in the US, they have apparently only released it to Urban AC stations while at the same time releasing STTR to Top 40 and dance stations?? On top of this, there has been no additional promotion to encourage people to download the song or album. I do not understand the logic behind this "soft" release for APWNN which has so much potential in my opinion in terms of individual success and further promoting album sales. I am hoping things will change.

What are your thoughts?

I agree with pretty much everything you said. lol I don't understand it.

Personally all that hype they gave the video, kinda fell flat to me with the video itself, that and not all THAT many people actually saw the video for it to create such a buzz. Plus i don't think it was that memorable of a video.

So yeah. I dunno. Bleh.

Before the album was released, pretty good. After, not so much. Missed a trick with STTR after the hologram, would've worked great as a single and could've done quite well as it was already charting in the UK for example where it hadn't even been shown. APWNN is not even a single for me as it has been done with so little promotion etc hardly anyone even knows about it.

I just want to say, that if we do not see promotion in front of our faces that doesn’t mean there’s no any. Between two singles there still were Xperia and Jeep… There were LNFSG remixes. It means a lot too. I’m not saying it was perfect but the album was and is doing fine.

Why don’t they release single on ITunes? Well, maybe because they will do so after MJ One video.
The official video did one job that MJ was the first to premier on Twitter. And the video is fine. And if to take into account that there’s going to be the second one – why to make two similar videos?!

I just think that with Tweeter premier, the dance show with MJ songs and the second video that it yet to come… I doubt it is over for APWNN. There must be something more to it.

P.S. Sometimes I’ve got the feeling that fans don’t like the video as it is not that successful as they would like it to be.

The album itself and its singles are great. Perfect. I love his voice on the tracks.
But there is a questions wandering on my mind. Did Sony/ the Estate fail with the promotion or are people really stupid and don't know how to appreciate good music?

I think it's both. Sony failed with the promotion for APWNN. Had they have done the promotion better then APWNN would be a hit. But some people still don't know what good music is and they don't give the songs a good chance. Radio stations should play the song a lot more.

I agree. I just heard the new song from Taylor Swift and it is utter garbage IMO (no offense to Swift fans :)). Ditto for the new song by the lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls.

Excuse me for being a bit short, but what is it exactly some fans expect? We're not in the 80s anymore and those over-the-top, super hyped promotional tools won't gel in this internet age. Another main factor that's missing is Mike HIMSELF. For Xscape to be doing as well as it is WITHOUT the artist here to promote it, to do the obligatory talk show interview rounds and tour is a great testimony to the artist that is Michael Jackson.

All I see is bitching, second-guessing the album, whining about how "if Mike was here he wouldn't do this or that", as if ANY OF US have any f*ckin' idea how he would have finished and/or promoted his unpublished music. The man has only been gone 5 years and already the shitting on his legacy's chance to far exceed everyone's lifetime is in jeopardy from the very people that claim to LOVE AND RESPECT HIM.

What.The. F*CK??!! :wtf2

*drops mic, over.*

You've just nailed it.

I agree with a lot of the comments here and I am very happy with the performance of this album so far. I just wish they would do a bit more to promote APWNN and to at least make it available to all radio formats. Why only Urban AC stations?

I think under the circumstances they've been doing a great job.. Would I have done something's different? Yes! But that does not take away from te effort that I see...

I think the success of the Xscape album in terms of sales demonstrates a great deal of success, at least initially. Love Never Felt So Good was also very successful.

It's understandable that the promotion efforts taper off as time goes on but I do think that A Place With No Name should have been released sooner when there was still a buzz surrounding the album. Of course, without the man himself here there is only so much that they are willing to do. I'm pretty happy.

I think before the album was released they promoted it good. - The single with JT was very greatly promoted!

But IMO 3 singles are to few - and they did not promote APWNN very good. - It didn't even chart in Denmark I believe.

BUT then again - MJ is dead, so for a posthumous album I would say they did what they could!

And who knows - maybe promotion for the album is not over yet - we have a 3rd single coming right? - Maybe they will promote the hell out of that and boost sales before christmas!

I hope they keep promoting Xscape - and hopefully they will promote it very much before the Christmas sales - Xscape should be under every Christmas Tree !!

Hey, New Jeep commercial is featuring APWNN!! Great promo. Jeep increase their sales by 42% over the summer with LNFSG. So what better fall follow up than APWNN - they lyrics have Jeep in the song. A big score for Sony and estate! Very happy right now.

I just hope that the ppl complaining about lack of promotion are doing their part in helping this project. I think the estate and Sony are doing their best (now with this new initiative with APWNN which is great imo) so if we are just talking and not doing then what is the use of Sony/estates efforts if even the fans don't support it. We all can do something ie., request the song on the radio, stream the video, share it, promote on social media, etc, etc.
