It seems to me that the majority of the people that can't take the hear or have "had it up to here with MJ" are younger than me. I just turned 30 last November which means I was old enough to live through some of his best eras. Most that are even older than me are not trippin at all over things that younger fans are crying over.

So, basically if you're mid to early 20's or even younger, you feel you've missed out on alot? You look at acts out right now like Beyonce, Alicia and Kanye and say "why can't my favorite artist be on EVERY single award show?"

Re: Does Age Make A Difference?

I guess that age does matter when it comes to things like this. But I think it's also about individuality. And I think life experience and what you've been through also contributes overall. Me myself I'm early 20s but I'm not even upset about Michael not showing. Michael has given us so much of his craft all his life. I'd say just appreciate all of the music, all of the performances, all of the concerts and all of the speeches etc. that he has given already. Then everything that comes after that is a bonus and a blessing in itself.

Re: Does Age Make A Difference?

I am also 29 and also IMO it takes way too long from him to release something. I don't want Michael to perform in EVERY award show around but it would be right if he performed in one in 5 years..

Re: Does Age Make A Difference?

Me being a Janet fan as well, I read the same kind of complaints at her forums, "why isn't she performing or promoting?" Her older fans are not trippin as much as her younger fans.

Re: Does Age Make A Difference?

well, I did miss out on alot!!! BUT, I now that MJ should NOT be on every awards show! can you say OVERKILL???- I've seen Beyonce so much, she might as well live with me!!!

Michael is smart, and although I know I missed out on most of MJ's eras, i'd never want him overexposed and doing interviews every night, and showing up on regis and kelly, or the tyra show!!!

Re: Does Age Make A Difference?

yeah i think it would be pretty ridiculous if Michael showed up on everything.
the fact that he doesn't appear on everything is part of his mystique in a way lol
so it makes it that more exciting when he does appear on something.
i dont think people would care about him as much or care about what he's up to as much if he appeared everywhere.

Re: Does Age Make A Difference?

I don't really want to diss all the other artists that are up in your face especially like Rihanna and etc. But I think they need the appearances more to stay relevant because well quite frankly the music they put out is not and will never be timeless. Even though the Scammies reward them.

Yes, I think age does make a difference. Younger fans seem to be much more impatient than older ones.

LOL yes what Beyonce is doing is overkill, but I guarantee you her fans are LOVIN it.

I agree, the morning circuit talk shows are lame to promote on.

Re: Does Age Make A Difference?

I don't know, I'm 24 I'm pretty patient with everything MJ does. I beleive everything is worth waiting for though. The longer we wait, the better we will be delivered. I've never used the phrase "I've had it up to here with MJ" he's given us so much talent to last us a long time.. He practically gave up "normalcy" for us. He could of quit singing a long time ago! And still be livin the sweet life in style lol

Is This Really About Michael?

Just like I expected, there's an overflow of major attitude, tantrums, weeping and wailing, 'woe to Michael' nonsense overflowing on this board. I knew, despite what was reported by Access Hollywood, that Michael Jackson wasn't expected to ATTEND (not just perform) but I repeat ATTEND--last night's Grammy's, there would still be some of the hard-headed, deluded bunch who would ignore that fact and convinced themselves "Michael will be there. He just wants to surprise us". Oh well, 3 1/2 hours past---and no Michael. Now from late last night and all through today has been the same theme:

"HOW DARE HE DOUBLE-CROSS ME!
"AFTER ALL THOSE YEARS I INVESTED IN HIM,HE HAS THE NERVE TO NOT SHOW HIMSELF TO ME!"
"OH, I'M SOOO THROUGH WITH HIM!"
"HE DOESN'T WANT TO PERFORM FOR ME!"
"HE NO LONGER WANTS TO POSE FOR ME!"
"HE MIGHT AS WELL FORGET IT!"
"IT'S SOOO OVER FOR HIM NOW!"
"I INVESTED ALL THE BEST YEARS OF MY LIFE DEFENDING HIM, YELLING "MIIICHAAAEL!!" WHEN HE LOOKED OUT HIS HOTEL WINDOW AND WHEN HE PAST ME IN HIS SUV!"
"I TOLERATED HIM AND SUPPORTED HIM WHEN MANY OTHER'S DIDN'T!"
"I SPENT MONEY ON HIM!"
"I BOUGHT HIS ALBUMS! I WENT TO HIS CONCERTS"
"I HAD MANY SLEEPLESS NIGHTS BECAUSE OF HIM!"
"I ATE, SLEPT AND BREATHED HIM FOR SOOO LONG!"
"WHEN I WANT TO SEE HIM, I WANT TO SEE HIM!"
"HE OWES ME!"
"AFTER ALL I'VE DONE FOR HIM AND WENT THROUGH FOR HIM, HE OWES ME!"
"HE'S SUPPOSE TO LIVE TO PLEASE ME!

The more I read through these threads the question came up in my mind, are the moans and whines of disappointment and disgust motivated by truly wanting what's in the best interest of Michael? OR are they motivated by fans wanting to get their 'MJ fix' REGARDLESS of how it will affect Michael personally and professionally?

Is wanting this comeback really for Michael Jackson OR is it for fans to be able to hold their heads 'high' with pride and feel the atmosphere of accecptance by the masses of being a Michael Jackson fan-without having to hide or without having to defend the fandom, without being made fun of for being a Michael Jackson fan, to be identified as 'cool' for being his fan?

I recall the scene in the movie "The Jacksons-An American Dream" when Katherine told Michael "Do not be afraid of the fans AND WHAT THEY EXPECT OF YOU". Even though that quote was part of a movie script, it really rings true and I hope Michael is living by it and not allow a certain bunch in his fan base 'rule' him, nor allow this bunch to cause him to second guess himself.

Continue following your gut, Michael, don't let yourself be run ragged by a barrage of demands of some petty, fickle people in your fanbase. Because in spite of what they want you to believe, and what they believe, THEY DON'T OWN YOU!!

Re: Is This Really About Michael?

***, act like theirs and mj's life depended on yesterdays grammies, they'll get over it, lol.

I was online till around 2am, hopeful something would happen, went to bed, woke up, came online, nothing happened, and got over it, yknow? Its stupid and pointless to cry over nothing. MJ will do his own thing in his own time.

Re: Is This Really About Michael?

I totally agree with you. I posted something a few weeks saying how surprised and disapointed I would be if he attened/performed at the Grammys. I'm glad he didn't. He's gonna come out with a huge bang of new material!!!...like the good old days!

Re: Is This Really About Michael?

I think that the Grammy folk wasn't about to flat out say that MJ wasn't going to attend. They would lose ratings that way. They left it rather ambigious for that reason. People can read into it anyway they choose.

It wouldn't have made it any difference if MJ had said that he wasn't going to be there, either, because then some fans would demand to know why.

While I'm mad that it didn't happen, the parties made a business decision. They simply could not come to an agreement and there it is.

Oh and to address the more general question of this thread, I do think that short of MJ singing and dancing on the regular, some peeps just will not be satisfied.

MJ actually showed up for the WMA's and there was a near nuclear meltdown on the boards because he didn't sing and dance, although there was never any indication that he would.

Maybe that's why he didn't show up at all because he didn't want to go thru that again.

If people want to focus on negativity, they can. Its a choice. Not a good one in my opinion, but if that is what they want- they are free to do so. Just as I am free to leave them to it, and spend my time doing something else.;)

Re: Is This Really About Michael?

Oh. BTW. We will let this stay open for a while, conditional on members being respectful of ALL opinions. If you find that you can't do this, don't post in this thread

Re: Does Age Make A Difference?

I'm 23/ almost 24 & I've been a fan since I was 6. Age does not bother me one bit, I know how MJ works! He has never been one to release albums quickly he takes his time & the same with performances! He knows when the right time will be for him to perform!

I am 12 but I was upset... but I don't care much! I am a boy so I wasn't crying :p just kidding LOL! But I've been excited this whole era and I loved the magazines/promo he's been giving us :)

No, I posted it and it showed up as part of the thread and then 2 seconds later it got merged and the dang thing was gone. Ugh.

Oh I'm sry. I merged the threads, but that usually doesn't result in losing posts....

hmmm....

Sry bout that.

Nope it doesn't cuz I've NEVER been like that and I'm 20...been a fan for 10 years or so. NEVER. Michael is his own man, he owes me or anyone else not a goddam thing.

Re: Is This Really About Michael?

Everything I think and feel about the subject is in this post. The bolded parts are the ones I feel the most.

ESPECIALLY LOVE that last line. Well said, enlightenu! :flowers:

And I do think the majority, not all of it, is due to age. Any fan who's endured long waits from Thriller on down KNOWS how to wait or have become accustomed to waiting. It's the younger, information-instantly-at-their-fingertips-fans...everything now, now, NOW!... who stress the most and are the most impatient in my opinion. And I DO think it's becuz they feel they have a lot of catching up to do becuz they missed a lot. They want to experience what some fans already have. However, that experience has to come in due time. It can't be forced, conjoled, rushed or manipulated with threats and constant moaning. It crosses the line when people become beligerent and berating towards Michael and begin demanding explanations about his life and career decisions. Being a fan is supposed to be FUN. And it's hard to have fun and enjoy things when people are constantly moaning about ish they just can't control and never will about someone else's life. When we put $15-25 down for a CD we aren't buying stock in him or his life. We don't own shares of him. If we did, all we have to do is sell and move on if things aren't going the way we like. Invest your money and time in someone else. Easy choice, yet so many would rather hang around and moan.

Right now, it's not anything Michael's doing or not doing that bothers me about being a fan. It's mainly other fans and those masquerading as "fans", who often make it unbearable. They will moan one day that they aren't being told anything and then moan the next day becuz they don't like what they were told...and then moan after the fact that no one should have told them anything in the first place. I mean, gracious! . It's a constant moanfest. Michael can never and will never please these people and it's unfortunate that the fans who are content have to do battle with these moaners over every little thing. It's like psychological warfare....with the negatives trying to wear down the content and positives. We must not go to the darkside. All you LUKES out there in MJ FanLand hold fast to your light sabres and be strong!

Anyway, that's all I better say on this, lest I start racking up infractions. :p

I'm just gonna try and remember what I said and say it again, cause I think its important.

I think what you said about fans voiceing so many complaints, not out of actual concern for Michael or what is best for him, but out of a desire to fulfill their own wants and needs, is a very valid point, and I think its true. Those wants and needs being the ability to "brag" about Michael, to, as you called it, get that fix, to justify their fandom, etc...

This brings me back the point in a speech Michael gave at his 45th birthday party where he told the crowd, "I'm going to me you proud to be my fans again." I was really heartbroken over that statement, and I know some will probably come here and say that I'm just being overally sensitive and regarding Michael as some sort of weakling or as a whimp, but that is not what I'm doing. It was heartbreaking to me because of what it says about Michael's mind set was at that time. For Michael to feel at that point as though he still had to prove himself, that all that he had accomplished and done, not only artistically but as a human being, wasn't enough to sustain the fans pride in him, is really a saddening realization for me. Because ever since Michael was a child, he hasn't ever, ever been shown love unless he was number one, unless he was successful professionally, unless he did this and that. He was never shown love for just being the fine human being that he is and that's wrong. Michael has even said that the reasoning behind his back breaking work ethic is because he fears rejection and longs to be loved. That implys too that he doesn't feel he's worthy of love unless he pleases people with his talent.

I admire and love Michael as much, if not more, for who he is as a person as I do him as an artist. He should be respected and not houded, and he shouldn't feel that in order to be worthy of others love and acceptance, he needs to be number one and on top of his profession. But with the way some fans complain, and with the way many people in his life have complained and pushed him, its easy to see why Michael feels that way. After Michael has given us his entire life, 44 years spent performing and entertaining us, giving his talent to us, giving his time and energy to make the lives of others better, to brighten their day in any way he knows how, from singing and dancing to visiting hospitals and spending hours on end with the sick, you would hope that his fans at least would have the decency to simply let him be. We should give Michael some amount of love and appreciation back for what he's given to us. He deserves peace. Because it is the often insane and unrealistic expectations people pile on him which have made his life such a difficult and at times tragic story.

I'm 18 and I've only been a big fan for about a year now and I came to realize that people my age are not very open to hear about Michael Jackson. They seem to cast him as "weird" before they even know anything about him. I ignore them though because once you really learn about MJ you find out that he is an incredible and generous man.

My take, it has to be the younger fans who are grossly trippin' out like its the end of the world, 'cause if its older fans, then Lord have mercy!!!

If you're any kind of MJ fan, you will have by now known how MJ works.....either you accept that or move the heck on!

"cause I can't stand having to read peoples negative posts all the time.....STOP IT, STOP IT, STOP IT!!!!!
