According to the RIAA, Jackson has shipped an additional 24 million albums in the United States since Mar 1, 1991 - the date on which Nielsen Soundscan came into effect. Based on RIAA certifications, pre 1991 albums; Off The Wall, Thriller & Bad shipped a combined 9 million copies in the United States (of which 6,498,580 were scanned). Post 1991 albums shipped 15 million copies in the U.S (of which 13,358,055 were scanned). Nielsen Soundscan reported sales of 19,856,635 of Jackson's albums from (Mar 1, 1991 - Apr 15, 2007)

Jackson has released seven albums in total since 1995, which have sold forty-five million copies wordwide. 1995's HIStory album sold eighteen million copies worldwide - which makes it the highest-selling multiple-disc album ever released by a solo artist. These sales were supported by an ambitious world tour and Jackson caused a media frenzy wherever he went during this era. 1997's, Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory - In The Mix, was released with minimal fuss and or promotion and went onto become the best-selling remix album of all-time, with six million copies sold thus far. The next album was 'Invincible', released in late 2001. The album had strong sales, selling two million copies in the United States and 8 million worldwide by early 2002. Shortly after the release of Invincible, Jackson issued a just hits version of his HIStory album, achieving Gold status four years after it's released in the United States and selling an estimated three million copies to date. Strangely Jackson issued another greatest hit's compilation in 2003; Number Ones. This sold well, with over seven million copies sold, a surprisingly high number considering. He then went onto released The Ultimate Collection in 2004 - his first box set chronicling his career and The Essential Collection in 2005 - released on the heels of his innocent verdict in 2005, these two have combined sales of about three million worldwide.

Woo~~Hoo~~~Rock On Mike~~~Rock On~~~

what is the meaning of life?

I feel each and everyone of us were put on Mother Earth for a purpose. It is up to the individual to figure out exactly what that purpose is.

I believe, that I was born to assist/help others...

If there is just one person that gives me the honor of assisting/helping them, then I am making a difference...

This truly brings happiness to the heart and great joy to the soul.

Wiki isn't a reliable source Lol. I guess we got to wait for the official figures to be updated. In the meanwhile everyone is free to believe whatever figures makes them happy.

If pirated discs are added to official sales, then actual sales of "Thriller" could be 104 million theoretically. No one asserted that 104 million consists only of official sales.

If so, then no one ever lied on the matter -- except for anyhow accurate accounting of bootleg copies of album is impossible, so "104 million" can be hardly correct number anyway. However, the figure was presented with such "accurate" 104 million figure that it is still misleading and not quite right either way.

i dont think guiness or anyone else who is slightly offical ever counts bootlegs do you lol. i think straws and grasping comes to mind.

I actually have spoken with an insider at Sony. He has friends who work in the company and tells me the Thriller album has sold approx 60 million copies globally however that does not include single sales, music video sales, etc. When all of these are combined sales are indeed 104 million.
Michael has already stated he has sold 750 million units around the world. This figure obviously includes Jackson 5, Jacksons, Solo Motown, Solo Epic, as well as all single sales, music video sales, online downloads, etc. This is not hard to believe at all guys. Remember that single sales for the Earth Song are over 4 million! Thats just one song. Stop underestimating Michael, and realize that he has been releasing music for nearly 40 years...

Yes, I think so too. If it wasn't on record that MJ broke records at wembly 7 times, people would be questioning it too. MJ is a very intelligent man. It did not pick these numbers out of his behind. There were many people who worked in Thriller, who gets commision. MJ cannot publicly claim that Thriller made all these sales without paying lots of people for it, cause they would come knocking on his door. I don't know why some fans behave like they have inside information and should know the industry more than the man who worked in it for 40 years.^_^

Guinness has been under scrutiny actually. I'm not gonna quote Wikipedia but they've been criticized too. It could happen. But hey as long as they say Thriller is still the best-seller ever, I'm alright with it even if I still think it's either inflation or counting bootlegs/pirated copies, lol.

elusive moonwalker: "Guinness" can count whatever since it has long running history of making unproven records to be included in their books. So "straws" has nothing to do with possibility to consider 104 million figure as probable if consider bootleg sales. However, as I pointed above, though no one ever asserted the figure was only of official sales, they made it look as if it was, which is not entirely correct either way.

And Guinness themselves didn't even put "104 million" in the books so that makes the mystery grow with sales figures because you could never figure them out.

:eek:fftopic: but the guy who founded that Ripley's Believe It Or Not thing now has ownership of the Guinness World Records. Just thought I'd point that out.
