Sony ATV Songs Lennon/McCartney on American Idol 2008

Ryan Seacrest announced last Thursday on the elimination show that on the Top 12 show the contestants will perform songs from the Sony ATV catalogue of Lennon and McCarthy.

The Top 12 Show is scheduled for next week.

He said that they have been trying for 6 years to get Sony to allow the show to perform these songs.

Does this mean that Sony is allowing their half of the catalogue only?

Ryan didn't mention anything about Michael and the Sony ATV catalogue of the Beatles.

Isn't it true that Michael owns a major part of this catalogue?

I dont think they would say "yeah we begged Michael Jackson, who owns the Beatles songs, for YEARS let us use those songs!"

I dont think theyd say his name even if he were involved with this. lol

Basically, he just said Sony.

My mention of Michael was because Michael will or should benefit from the venture, not that Ryan had to say Michael's name, especially and specifically if the songs only belong to Sony, as I stated.;)

Yes. The ATV part of Sony/ATV is synonymous with "Michael Jackson"

U know I would really love Michael to take part in SOME WAY in the 'Give To Africa' thing they are doing..

Some fans are like NO!!, last year when rumors were gonig that MJ might be on AI. they started to say things like. "NO, he's too big for American Idol.' etc..

But some need to start understanding that American Idol is bigger than music awards now.. the important episodes get more viewers than the grammy's, more than MTV awards.. American Idol is bigger than them now, so I think American Idol is great for MJ..

Either take part in the fundraiser show, or the finale show..

right, the beatles songs are in the ATV catalogue. ATV = Michael. ATV is merged with Sony Catalogue. Sony = Michael Jackson, they would've had to agree for Idol to get the permission.

Yeah, the thing is though that i'ts on fox network which is owned by murdoch. Racist fox news channel & other murdoch's tabloids, (diane diamond & R.F) have made millions if not billions by attacking:

MJ, postive policies which benefit Africa & the victims of hurricane Katrina.

It's all a money game, in regard to murdoch! Because he serves as the republican 'pr network chair', murdoch been authorized, by the b_ush camp, to buy into every market. They changed the laws for him to do so!

This time however, it's great to see MJ & others profit off his back. -_-
Behind the scenes, I'm sure MJ agreed to set licensing in motion which would benefit charities, (as it has always been his way).

the idol contestants are going to have a "beatles" themed show. Michael and sony owned a majority of the Beatles ...Sony/Michael has ok'd the use of these songs on american idol.
 
I can't wait until American Idol starts promoting the Beatles' themed show. Dang near everybody knows that Mike is a 50% owner of those songs and they also know what a Beatles' themed American Idol show means for Mike's pockets.

Mike don't have to say a word, just sit back and smile!

It must be a Fraudian slip, because I find that I always spell his name that way. It may be an avoidance issue or a self-conscious ignorance... that I don't want to spell his name the right way.-_-

I have an old friend from a while back named, McCarthy, so I always think of that spelling because I liked that person...get it.:p
 
lol. there is no literal HALF that belongs to michael or to SONY. Each just get half the profits.

well.. Michael is ATV.. they did a join-venture agreement so ... for that they share in the profits.. but Michael came to the table as 100% ownership of ATV.. Sony's was not sole owner of his 1/2 of the catalog..

so Sony/ATV can't fart without Michael's approva!! and that is fact!
 
Notice the Sobe Life Water ad runs everytime someone is using Thriller music and now, it seems any music from Sony. Didn't the ad run during that Dance show too?

By the way, on the topic of :pirate:murdock/fox, if we recall, Mike's name indeed received alot of mention, but in reference to him, it was spun to smear him. It's no accident that all that Neverland ish, (original story by fox news), was marketed to the public at the same time Ryan Secrest made the announcement on the Beatles. The later was more likely cheap revenge on the part of murdoch. fox's article both fed & provided the notion which gave rise to all those negative articles on MJ 'living off of' or 'needing' the Beatles to pay for Neverland & the familly home.:rolleyes:

Yep, we can bet that murdoch/fox is indeed angry over this, esp. the part were they are forced to kiss MJ's lovely cheek on this.. via adds & even in conjunction w/mtv:puke:, (Randy J's America's Best Dance Group episode featuring MJ).

In murdoch's twisted mind however, more than enough reason to use his tabloid media outlets to go after MJ.^_^​

IDK maybe its just me, but with the Beatles I find it a double edge sword.. good and bad..

1) Means more sales for the Beatles = more money in MJ's pocket
2) More sales = More sales FOR THE BEATLES

When it comes down to it to me.. Money is not everything.. I would rather have MJ get much promotion, love, dedications etc. and not have a sales boost than have a sales boost without the recognition for his talent.

The more Beatles are blasted on TV, the more people fall into believing that they are bigger than Michael..

(this is my own thing) don't pick on me for it.. lol!

I understand what you are saying... but the media has made it that
the Beatles are now synonymous with Michael because of their jealousy of Michael owning the publishing rights...

so ..to me.. its a win/win for Michael
 
I ,m sure they would have to get michael,s go ahead also after all he ownes a good part of that Mag. I agree also that it would be nice to see Michael having part in all this . I think it would be great if michael did.
 
Michael is not going to come out or forward untill he has finsihed
and has something New to offer - He will come back with a BANG
not being a guest star on some TV show with out having a new
album, video or shortfilm to bring to the table .. MJ wants to come
out BIG _ HUGE in the MEGA -superstar way he always does ..
appearing on AI is not going to get it ... In my opinion ..
