Man do I love this song live.. I think its one of The Jacksons' best!
Michael is ruthless on the vocals on this song and the dancing doesn't do anything to hinder that!
I love it more on the Victory and Bad Tour becaause he has that extra grit in his voice (yes I'm a fan of the gritting and grunting):punk:

I always refer to the performance of "Heartbreak Hotel" as raw entertainment, its a brilliant peice of work from the slow peice of music at the beggining that creates tension, to the overall arrangment and the amount of emotion and improvised dancing that goes into it.
Towards the end of the song Michael does a series of hoo-hoo's! that are just mesmerising!!!
When our boy finally hits the stage, "Heartbreak Hotel" is my song of choice (along with the new stuff ofcors):)
 
Totally agree with you there. Although on the Bad Tour didn't they skip the spoken introduction and move that to Smooth Criminal on the second leg?

But anyway a fantastic live performance every time.
 
It's a great song. Though I wouldn't classify it as a Jackson's track, even though it was on Triumph. That's strictly a Michael Jackson track, the brothers didn't even sing on it.

But it's one of his most brilliant songs and of course, the performance that goes with it is mind blowing.

This song is SOOOOOO good on the CD version, and SOOOOOOO good live! Michael was SERIOUS when he did this song! I think this is one of the best songs (vocal and production) ever made!

Trust me, all the emphasis in your post is justified, and yeah you're right, Michael was serious on that track, he really meant business! One can actually see the story of the song unfold in Michael's eyes.
I think this song is one of the earliest signs of "Michael Jackson The king of Pop" as we know him today slowly starting to manifest himself as this is one of those songs that only Michael could deliver the way he did.
 
I think this song proves why Mj is a genius,a warning of what was going to follow(Thriller album)

YEs the pure energy of this track is mindblowing! Especially the Bad Tour omg, whoo hooo!!! haha i just love it!
 
I agree with what others have said in here. "Heartbreak Hotel" is truly one of Michael's best songs (and yes I do consider it to be an MJ song moreso than a "Jacksons" song). I love watching performances of it live as well.
 
the whole Triumph album is a winner!
