I think MJ's voice is amazing all the time, different eras have different things that impress me but I think overall I love MJ's voice around OTW/Thriller era the most..it is just perfection there. :wub:

I kind of agree with that era. Probably a slighty better resonance to his vocals. Don't forget the Triumph album in between OTW and Thriller was also in there. There hasn't been that much of a drop off in the quality Michael's vocals. They are as amazing today as ever.

Yes, his voice when he was with the Jacksons is just perfection. :wub: Especially Blame It On The Boogie. :wub: It is just...AMAZING :wub:
 
It always sounded FABULOUS to me.. BUt..

I would have to say that DANGEROUS is when I feel his voice came full cycle..

He went into registers he never did before (or very rarely).. Yet kept the same smoothness and other registers that he's always done..

AHHHH!
 
For me it's Invincible. His voice was perfection...just smooth and effortless, especially in the ballads.

Yes, I do love his voice at different times. :) Invincible for example, in Butterflies when he does the high part, that's amazing. :wub: and his part in What More Can I Give, that high note he does is just A.M.A.Z.I.N.G it gives me goosebumps.
 
I think Off the wall Era is the best. In Invincible, we have great professional software to make the sound, so that's not real voice!!!
 
Call me a loser, but I loooove his voice all the time! I could pick, but then I'd keep changing my mind seconds later, which just confirms that I love his voice in all eras!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What exactly are you saying here? That it's not MJ's real voice on Invincible? Please elaborate.

I think his singing has always been superb. Very hard to pick when because it's always been fantastic...

There's no digital altering of Michael's voice on "Invincible", and I'm not sure why you think that. Michael's been a professional vocalist since he was 10 years old and he doesn't need studio wizardry. He's absurdly talented vocally. Any time for Michael's voice is superb. He's got the best voice. It's just a matter of style preference I think. His voice fully matured around "Bad" I think.
 
Out of curiosity, isn't MJ's voice supposed to be around it's "prime" around now? I think I read somewhere that vocally, he would have been in his prime from age 35 or something up through now... I don't know, I might be grasping for random numbers, but I feel like some vocal coach said that.

Personally, I love how smooth & sweet his voice sounded around OTW, but as everyone else has said, his voice hasn't changed in quality. Perhaps tone a slight bit, but it also depends on the style MJ's doing. I really love how his voice sounded on the Invincible ballads -

- yup, just like "Butterflies". Oh man, I just swoon like crazy every time he gets to that part! It's absolutely incredible. Same goes for "Someone Put Your Hand Out" (now was that a Dangerous outtake? I forget). And that entire song is done in his 'head' voice, I believe which is crazy hard (or so my singer friend says). So over the years he's maintained an excellent voice, but I guess how often he makes use of his angelic voice vs. his grittier one is dictated by the song. No matter what he sounds fantastic. So I guess I can't decide ^_^.
 
I love his voice in all era's, but I think it really depends on what you like. If you're a rock fan and you like gritty vocals, then more than likely you'd say that MJ's voice was best around the "Dangerous" or "History" era. If you like his more soulful sound then more than likely you'd say his voice sounded best around "Off The Wall" or "Thriller". Like I said previously though, I love his voice on all his albums and like the fact that he's so diverse so I really can't choose.

At the moment however I'm really liking his Pre-OTW voice when he was with his brothers. I'm really loving songs like "Show You The Way To Go", "Find Me A Girl", "This Place Hotel", "Eventhough You're Gone", "Walk Right Now", etc. These era's are so underrated but his voice was so soulful back then. It was really fantastic :wub:.

Yes, the average prime years of the voice, if taken care of, are between the ages of 35 and 55. So Michael is in his prime. People asking whether he can still sing or not is the most absurd question.

He sings "Someone Put Your Hand Out" is falsetto, which they also refer to as super head voice. Either way, Michael's falsetto is beautiful, and it's strong. A lot of male singers falsetto is just weak or annoying. But Michael's you could listen to all day. Michael's range is incredible, and his upper range, which is known as his head registers, which is full voice, using the whole of the vocal cord, goes extremely high, well passed high C. What's even more amazing is his control in transitioning between the registers.

I feel Michael's voice becomes increasingly more amazing with each album release.
 
people that ask "IF" he can sing are just being pure dumb.. lol!

"HOW" is a LITTLE more reasonable question..

how will he sound etc.. not IF..

Yes Michaels voice has slightly changed over the years.. It does not mean that it got worse.. And the amount of change is very minimal.. ESPECAILLY for how much he's used those amazing pipes over the years..


I mean those who say MJ does not sound as crisp as Thriller..

Well, that is 2 reasons..
1) It's stylizing the voice
2) yes his voice has matured some

There are SOME vocal arrangements that would be harder for MJ to hit now.. But it was the same back then.. There are vocal arrangements that would be hard to hit in the early 80's..

Notice this:
While the vocal arrangement is the same as the Thriller version, he sings it more agressive.. Uses more simular techniques as the 2008 version with Akon.. However, notice that his voice cannot hit those aggressive tones quit the same as he can now.. He had to work harder for it then.. While now it comes very natural.. Now vise versa (in some aspects) where there are notes ore vocals that he would have to work harder to reach that came a little easier then..

wowww ur riiight. The demo version, MJ DOES sing it like he does in 2008.....coool. Shows all those people who claim Mj was STRUGGLING in the 2008 version. Its stylistic. Completely.
