Ne-yo's latest attempt

I think people like Ne-Yo and Chris Brown are a great commercial for Michael. I realize none of them are even close to Michael's level, but this is all they have now in today's music. I'd rather be listening to Michael-influenced music and/or videos than anything else.

it seems with just the slight aroma of of MJ being around with him working on an album and all.. People just can't help but to become Michael..

IDK wuts up..

Well everyone will assume that's Michael's songs as I am. I don't even know who's who. Even that faker Jason Malachi, lol.

I mean it is obvious when you know someone influence you but this is the first time this has become prevalent that everyone and they mama wanna be MJ either musically, video wise or even look wise!

Michael, please tell 'em to get they own ISH! SHAMON!

Everyone knows these guys imitate and love Michael, if anything thats more promo for MJ, IN A GOOD ASS WAY. The tabloids act like hes over but his legacy is forever present

That's the really only good thing about it.

People wanna pretend they're "original".

"I'm Michael Jackson, bish!"

Truth be told, I don't think Michael care one bit. He certainly does not care as much as some of his fans do :chichi:

Michael is looking at this like when he was coming up. He had his influence, there were artists, who's talents he drew from. Now he gets to be that person to someone else. It is almost a status symbol for him, I bet. It feeds his ego sotospeak ;)

Not exactly. When MJ was coming up he had more talent in his PINKY TOE than all of these cats now put together. And after he got out of the J5/Jacksons hold, he was his own man. And even the Jacksons/J5 has their own distinct style.

The true test is this....how would u "imitate" Chris Brown or Usher, in order to get people to recognize that is the person ur imitating without resorting to just singing their songs?
You'd sag your pants and imitate Michael Jackson.

Even back in the day with the Jacksons, people can imitate the J5 without people getting them confused with the Temptations or James Brown, Jackie Wilson. No one back then, bites as much as people do now. Influence is one thing, but BITING is another lol

Now i dunno how MJ feels about it. I'm SURE it feeds his ego. But it doesn't matter, it's hella annoying to me and alot of people. Even HE had to say in the ebony interview that NeYo is great and all but has "too much of a MJ style"...even talking about himself in third person to get the point across! Hell yeah it feels good to freaking have ur own GENRE in today's music, but it alsso shows that peeps ain't being original enough.

i get it, bitin' is bitin' and it is bad

**wonders what people would do if Nobody showed any MichaelJacking in their work**

One should practice moderation...lol And not base their whole careers off of being a tribute artist and not call urself a tribute artist lol. that's all i'm saying. It would be great if peeps actually recognize MJ's great influence instead of passing off titles of "King Of Pop" like it's candy lol And it'll be great if people would just be more original in their work. It's exactly what the industry is lacking. Its not so much the biggest problem that their biting...the BIGGEST problem is they're not bringing anything new to the table. Where is the art in that? ya know?

You know what pisses me off about this? It's not so much the fact that these "artists", if you want to call them that, are jacking Michael's style, it's that, the music industry is requiring them to do just that and thus are sending out a signle that they want Michael replaced, and that's just bull sh*t. The music industry want's to compete with Michael by making a bunch of "essential parts missing" clones of him, trying to make the kind of talent he has seem common, and trying to faze him out by having every act and their mama doing what he does. The only problem is, they don't do what he does, not even close. It's like a 180 degree difference between him and everyone else. And the music industry has sacrificed quality talent for quantity talent because of it. Because think of it, you don't ever see someone like Michael, whose the best of the best in 4 and 5 different fields. You just don't see that. And people in the industry know this. So instead, they get all these wanna be's together, they don't care if they can sing really well, they don't care if they can dance really well, or write music or do any of that well, just as long as they can do all of it sort of, kind of better then the average person. Because as Michael's proven, his kind of talent racks in the big, BIG bucks.

These bi*ches are trying to replace the irreplaceable in Michael, and what's worse, they're trying to do it with mediocre talent so that, when they get tired of whichever act, they can replace them with ease. It's an insult to Michael and his level of talent and genius to suggest that these cracker jack prize acts can compete with him or to imply they're somehow the same. Because they aren't. That's what pisses me off.

Exactly and these young misguided fans of theirs don't know HALF the stuff these guys are doing was originally done by a guy who was releasing hits before they or those fans were even born.

** shaking my head **

here we go 'round the wanna be bush, the wanna be bush, the wanna be bush. Here we go 'round the wanna be bush, all day long.

:cute:

I just don't see the problem. It's a video. Geez. At least he's not parodying Michael, doing it in a distasteful way, etc. And the song is as far away from MJ as you could get. Get over it and enjoy the song, I say :)

i think it is just you and I that feel that way Marni. we should just concede defeat on this topic.

Probably :lmao:

You know, I wouldn't even consider myself a massive fan of Ne-yo. I think he hides his talent- some of his better songs were written for other artists. And I really think he has a better voice hidden under there somewhere. But I LOVE this song- it's something different- better than Usher's "Love In This Club".

BTW, this video looks more like Justin Timberlake's vid for "LoveStoned" than anything else. There's obvious MJ tributes in there, but far out....

Anyways... *backs out of thread*

completely off topic but... did anyone notice Danny's new tattoo ?? :innocent:

guys i don't hate these cats. I own albums of all three of the MJ clones  Usher, JT, and Neyo...

I think Neyo is EXTREMELY talented. The sad thing is that he can be even BETTER if he just steps out of MJs shadow for TWO MINUTES at LEAST

I'm not saying that what they're doing is completely detrimental to MJ either. I'm saying that the increased amount of it is detrimental to the industry and themselves as artists.

I'm sorry but I couldn't help but to post this. I usually see little hints of MJ influence in a video but this is a complete rip, from start to finish.

I looooooooooooooove this song... may be inspired by Michael bu still a lovely tune.....
Ne-Yo rocks for me:yes:

Gee thanks Ne-Yo. You just saved me the trouble of going through my entire Michael Jackson music video collection so I can find my favorite MJ moves. :clapping:

The song and video were both pretty good actually. My only problem with Ne-Yo, as someone already said, is that he has a lot of potential but at the moment he's stuck on doing the Michael-thing. I get that 99.99% of R&B artists today have been inspired by Michael one way or another, but that shouldn't stop them from pursuing something that they can call their own.

I could enjoy the song if it wasn't so sh**ty.

OK, I remember someone quoting Michael as having said something along the lines of...him wishing that the young artists would be more creative or original (the ones jocking his style). Maybe it was here, or on MJNO before it closed. Anyone have that source? I dunno, it's just a vague memory but someone posted a source to it too but it slips my mind!!!

Exactly...like Chris Brown (like I've said a thousand times)...when he first came out he had his own style. When Neyo came out he kind of had his own style (well maybe the first two videos). Justin Timberlake was the same (when he was a boy bander). Usher too. I mean sure in the beginning they all had influence from Michael, but they're taking it too far now.

This Michael Jackson thing is just getting crazy. Are all of these little boys just trying to morph into Michael overtime? I don't get it. They come out being themselves, then morph into Michael-wannbes (no-where-nears).

Like I said before, music and entertainment is about creativity, imagination, exploration, and originality. If they can't produce any of these things, then why are they really in this industry? Is it the money? The groupies?

It was the ebony interview. He said neyo's style is a "Michael Jackson" style and he should try being a bit more innovative lol
