Quincy Jones and Michael. . . What's Q's problem?

lol indranee you might want to calm down on the 6 posts in a row, there's an edit button at the bottom of each post you make

Ok, I haven't read all the posts but I will just say, as I've felt this way for awhile, that Michael Jackson MADE Quincy, not the other way around. Q became a house hold name with Thriller because of Michael. Not many people knew his name UNTIL he hooked up with Michael! Most people couldn't tell you anything he did before he got with Mike and hell they couldn't even tell you anything he's done SINCE hooking up with Mike. He's highly overrated in my opinion, and should be thanking his lucky stars he got the chance to work with Mike. It irritates me beyond words that EVERYONE else either tries to take credit or is given credit for all the success Michael had. Give the man the credit he rightly deserves. And Q needs to check his ego at the door and just shut up.

Also, regardless of all the crap thrown his way in the 1990s-2000s Michael still set records and blew people away with his music and his performing!

Examples:

* HIStory is the best selling Double Disk album ever.

* DANGEROUS was the biggest selling album of 1992 and it even sold more than BAD.

* Blood on the Dance Floor is the best selling remix album ever.

* 'You Are Not Alone' was the first single by ANY ARTIST TO EVER enter at #1 on the HOT 100 singles charts.

* 'Invincible' was/is his FASTEST selling album. (10 million sold overall to date)

(The list goes on, but my fingers are starting to cramp so I'll stop here.)

On that note, MANY people tend to not remember or realize or whatever, that 'Thriller' WAS A SLOW seller at first. It wasn't UNTIL Motown 25 when album sells really shot through the roof, added onto that the 'Thriller' video and all the videos connected with it.

Thriller's success is because of Michael, HIS talent, and HIS vision. Anyone who cannot recognize that is just blind. Quincy just got lucky and he got to work with THE GREATEST ENTERTAINER OF ALL TIME and he wanted to ride his (Michael's) coat tails to the end and when Michael said "we need to see other people" Q got his panties in a twist and went all "woman scorned" on his (Michael's) ass. It's really quite sad actually.

MICHAEL WE MISS YOU! LONG LIVE THE KING! LONG MAY HE REIGN!

PEACE! I'm out.

Thank U, Thank U, Thank U. Yes ppl keep saying that Q was somebody before Mike. That he produced for all the greats. We never heard of him or that before. PPL got to know who he was when he worked with Mike. What has he done before?????????? Yes he worked with Tevin Campbell, Did Vibe magazine, or some other things, but what else. Anybody u ask about him automatically talks about Mike. And I like what u said about Thriller. Motown 25th is what took Mike to the next level. And guess what Q had Nothing to do with it. It was all Mike. He gets way too much credit for Mike's success. Hearing that old man talk you would think he discovered Mike. He was a nobody before Quincy. Somebody needs to put that man in his place Quick!!!!!!!!!

:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

you've had enough time to rest your typing....

can you continue?? :tease::tease::tease:

very well said.:clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping:

It's okay, I know I am a small minority...Can I redeem myself by saying that I still think the dude was a Genius?

I actually agree with you :). I've heard Off The Wall once, same with Thriller (!). I listen to a pair of songs from the first one and quite a few of the second one, but not the whoile albums (maybe I should listen to them again?). The albums I've kept listening to are Bad, Dangerous and HIStory. Even Invincible lately.

LOL Arty you make me laugh!

that "dude" is one of the world's best actors. :p

but I felt bad for Mikey. he'd have been the PERFECT Peter Pan.

I actually liked that film. It was uite good.

Does anyone know for sure what (if anything) happened between Michael and Steven Spielberg?.

Like I said, I had read Steven got upset because he thought They Don't Care About Us was anti-semitic.

all I can say is that Quincy is a very disgusting old man trying to take credit for a dead mans work and talking bullsh*t about him when he cant defend himself
so those are Micheal's "friends"? unbelievable

hence why Michael cut a WHOLE LOTTA people off.

it's like he said to Brett: Never trust anyone.

I'd have never heard of Quincy Jones if it wasn't for Michael Jackson, and I'll tell him that if I ever meet him.

TDCAU is not anti-Semitic. To me, MJ was responding to the haterz who made his interest in Judaism/Kaballah as a bad thing back in the mid 1990s.

MJ wore the little red string way before Madonna ever did.

Speilberg visited the Ghosts set in 1996, also, MJ used Dreamworks & Lucsfilm's production studios & post-production editing rooms for his videos & filmwork.

I've had to argue with poeple who say that Michael did nothing but Thriller and that that was written by Quincy Jones.

;) i got it....just was clarifying....you were right on with the billie jean part, that was the total catalyst for EVERYTHING then it went into the stratosphere with the thriller video. those two things sealed him in as a pop ICON

and NEITHER OF THOSE had much of ANYTHING to do with one Mr. Quincy Jones.

Also, isn't BOTDF considered the best selling album of remixes of all time? I bought it the day it came out. ;)

guys, don't think I'm wierd but I've a little confession to make: I ADORE BOTDF! every frickin' single song on that thing. I adore.

I play it in my car when I'm driving to and from work.

and I dance to it. I love that thing. I'm a remix kinda gal (mainly because I love to dance), but this is a killer remix album. and I've heard a whole lotta them!

what the eff - I have read this before myself, but, i just wanted to say here

Q: But it must've been so disturbing to see Michael's face turn into what it turned into.
A: It's ridiculous, man! Chemical peels and all of it. And I don't understand it. But he obviously didn't want to be black.

Q: Is that what it was?
A: Well, what do you think? You see his kids?

Um Quincy .. u seen ur kid?

I think Billie Jean is better than Thriller.. and that is all Michael, yeh? :)

"Era grande, pero no jugaba en la liga de los que acabo de citar. He tenido siete hijos y participado en 40 películas. No tengo tiempo para perder en tonterías."

"He was big, but he wasn't in the league of the ones I just mentioned. I've had seven children and participated in 40 movies. I don't have time to lose on nonsense".

Interesting to notice he doesn't want to participate in the tribute concert.

I think the Details interview is real:

Q: You were there to witness the strange evolution in Michael's appearance. Did you ever step in and saying anything about it?
A: Oh, we talked about it all the time. But he'd come up with, "Man, I promise you I have this disease," and so forth, and "I have a blister on my lungs," and all that kind of b.s. It's hard, because Michael's a Virgo, man—he's very set in his ways. You can't talk him out of it. Chemical peels and all that stuff.

Q: Did you believe him about the disease?
A: I don't believe in any of that bullshit, no. No. Never. I've been around junkies and stuff all my life. I've heard every excuse. It's like smokers—"I only smoke when I drink" and all that stuff. But it's bullshit. You're justifying something that's destructive to your existence. It's crazy. I mean, I came up with Ray Charles, man. You know, nobody gonna pull no wool over my eyes. He did heroin 20 years! Come on. And black coffee and gin for 40 years. But when he called me to come over to see him when he was in the hospital on his way out, man, he had emphysema, hepatitis C, cirrhosis of the liver, and five malignant tumors. Please, man! I've been around this all my life. So it's hard for somebody to pull the wool over my eyes. But when somebody's hell-bent on it, you can't stop 'em.

Q: But it must've been so disturbing to see Michael's face turn into what it turned into.

Q: Is that what it was?
A: Well, what do you think? You see his kids?

Q: Did you ever discuss it? Did you ever ask, "Michael, don't you want to be a black man?"
A: No, no, no, please. That's not the way you do it.

Q: But he was beautiful before?
A: Man, he was the most gorgeous guy.

Q: But he seemed to have some deep-seated issue with how he looked?
A: Well, that comes about a certain way. I'm not sure how it happens. I'm just a musician and a record producer. I'm not a psychiatrist. I don't understand all that stuff. We all got problems. But there's a great book out called Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart. Did you see that? That book says the statute of limitations has expired on all childhood traumas. Get your stuff together and get on with your life, man. Stop whinin' about what's wrong, because everybody's had a rough time, in one way or another.

Oh boy, this just breaks my heart. Quincy, you disappoint me.
How awful this is...

And this was conducted after his death! How sensitive, Q...

We dont need him. He sounds so bitter.

I didn't know he was involved in 1 movie, let alone 40.

I think I can safely say that everyone in the world knows Michael Jackson... a lot less people know Quincy Jones.. and out of the ones who do - the majority only know him because of his connection with Michael. :p

Interesting to notice he doesn't want to participate in the tribute concert.

Edit: I was wrong.. it appears this was after his death. I got the impression I was reading something old.

PEACE! I'm out.

I  your post.

thank you.

You're not the only one! And songs like Blood in the Dancefloor, Is It Scary, Ghost- those are some real gems. Most people never heard of Is it Scary, I love those songs. Not to mention all the great stuff HIStory, one is better than the other. Tabloid Junkie, DS, they are amazing.

It took me a lot longer to warm up to Invincible and now I love it. What did one critic say?? Too long??:hysterical: It works! By the time "Threatened" is playing you feel sorry you have to return to the real world!

I honestly felt he was a man from Dangerous on, he was finding himself more and more.

yes!! he was a MAN. he wasn't a boy from Dangerous on. I don't care what that psychiatrist said. I believe Mike learned the hard way and his growth -- painful and hard-fought as it was -- comes right on through from Dangerous on... HIStory part II and Invincible, especially... such beautiful, poignant, powerful, PERSONAL songs on these two albums.

the world on the whole has really lost, IMO. it's really lost quite a bit by all the concentration on the tabloid stuff. when I had some of my friends and colleagues listen to BOTDF, HIStory and Invincible -- they were like... "that's MICHAEL JACKSON?!?!"

they had no idea about these songs! what a shame. :(

SEE YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND. every time people see old quincy, they ask about what it was like to work with Michael. and they asked him about it for 26 straight years, daily, and counting...so..lol..ergo..bitter envy. it's not acceptable..not condoned..but...quincy has envy...i won't describe what type of envy...but..u know..

yeah, it's understandable, but not forgivable. it makes him look rather SMALL.

as Arty said upthread somewhere (I think it was Arty): what if George Martin had said these kinds of things about John Lennon and George Harrison?

he wouldn't, trust me. and it's because George Martin is a man of class. something Quincy Jones needs to mull. he's not doing HIMSELF any favors by behaving this way. envy, jealousy are very demeaning emotions. they demean the perpetrator much more than the victim.
