Michael Jackson's Doc -- Ex-Employee Dies

TMZ has learned Dr. Arnold Klein, who treated Michael Jackson for decades, had an office employee who just died ... an employee who had a history of drug abuse, even while working for Dr. Klein.

Bruce Ayers, who worked for three years as Dr. Klein's research assistant and confidant, was found dead on a sidewalk on December 18 in Los Angeles.

Dr. Klein tells TMZ he fired the 44-year-old Ayers in February, after learning Ayers was allegedly stealing drugs and money from Klein's office.

We're told Dr. Klein stored certain drugs at a pharmacy he used to fill prescriptions for patients. When the drugs would expire, there was a protocol for destroying them. But Klein says Ayers would go to the pharmacy and get expired Demerol for his own use -- and the pharmacy gave it to him. Klein says the pharmacy violated protocol.

We're told Dr. Klein knew Ayers was a drug addict when he hired him but at the time Ayers was on the wagon. Klein says it became painfully obvious at the beginning of 2009 that Ayers' drug problem had resurfaced. Several members of Klein's staff told the Dr. they would quit unless he fired Ayers.

And, we're told, after Ayers was fired, Klein's staff realized 100 Percocet pills were missing.

We've learned Ayers, who met Michael Jackson many times while working for Klein, had a history of abusing pain meds.

When Ayers' body was discovered, authorities found hospital records showing that he had been admitted to three different hospitals since August, in each case for pain issues -- and in each case he was discharged with various meds.

The L.A. County Coroner has deferred Ayers' cause of death, pending toxicology tests.

What the FECK is going on with doctors in L.A.? I've never EVER heard of drugs being "stored" at a pharmacy. I would expect that doctors keep locked cabinets in their office for controlled substances? And when they run low they get more from a PHARMACY? By buying them? And an employee can go to a pharmacy and get "expired" drugs? That's insane!

The staff "noticed" that 100 Percocets were missing. Riiiight. Wonder who took them? Seriously. . He was fired when drugs were noticed "missing?" I expect Klein is still in a good bit of trouble, and it sounds like he still has a good bit of "missing medication" to account for. . . . This is just STRANGE.
 
According to the affidavit: "The [CURES] report shows 27 prescriptions written by Dr. Klein in a self-prescribing capacity, specifically prescribing medication to himself, from March 2006 through May 2009.

Federal agents investigating Michael Jackson's death seized prescription drug records Friday from a Beverly Hills pharmacy favored by the pop star.

Nine Drug Enforcement Administration agents armed with a search warrant spent five hours sifting through records at Mickey Fine Pharmacy for "evidence of improper dispensing of controlled substances," Special Agent Jose Martinez said.

Jackson was known to have prescriptions filled at the Roxbury Drive store, running up a $101,000 drug bill in 2005, which the pharmacy collected after filing a lawsuit.

The DEA search, part of a multi-agency investigation into Jackson's June 25 death, suggested that detectives are looking beyond Jackson's personal physician and the role of the anesthetic propofol. Detectives have been considering manslaughter charges against Dr. Conrad Murray, but law enforcement sources have told The Times that prescription medications -- other than the propofol they said Murray administered -- were found in Jackson's system.

The search warrant specified controlled substances, a category that doesn't include propofol, and Murray's attorney has indicated that the doctor did not prescribe any other drugs. Martinez declined to say whether the pharmacy was the target of a criminal investigation, but noted that only pharmacies, and not doctors, can be investigated for improperly dispensing medication.
A man answering the phone at the pharmacy hung up on a reporter and an attorney did not return calls seeking comment.

The search came as the probate judge overseeing Jackson's affairs approved a traveling exhibit of Jackson memorabilia.

Lawyers for Jackson's mother, Katherine, had criticized the deal negotiated by temporary administrators of the estate as a "fire sale" that didn't do enough to protect the singer's legacy. But after listening to witnesses involved in the deal between concert promoter AEG Live and the estate, as well as outside experts, Judge Mitchell Beckloff called those arguments "hyperbole."

"There is no question in my mind that this is in the best interest of the estate," he said.

The exhibit was part of a larger contract that settles Jackson's debt to AEG Live for backing the performer's planned comeback concerts as well as addressing the costs the promoter paid for the entertainer's memorial service. Attorneys for AEG declined to discuss the specific terms of those portions of the contract.

The exhibit will travel to three cities, beginning in October with a four- to six-month stop at London's O2, an entertainment complex that was to be the site of Jackson's comeback concerts, said John Norman, the president of AEG subsidiary Arts and Exhibitions International. The other two stops and the contents of the exhibit have yet to be worked out, he said.

in the search warrant they mentioned they were seeking evidence of improper dispensing of controlled substances and evidence of self -prescribing . so both the pharmacy and Klien were the targets of that raid .

For more than three-hours Federal drug agents investigating Michael Jackson’s death searched a Beverly Hills pharmacy favored by the pop star.

Nine Drug Enforcement Administration agents armed with a search warrant entered Mickey Fine Pharmacy just before Noon.

“We’re searching for evidence of improper dispensing of controlled substances,” Special Agent Jose Martinez told RadarOnline.com.

Agents were overheard by RadarOnline.com discussing OxyContin with pharmacists. Agents also removed sealed boxes, while the pharmacy remained open and conducted business as usual for customers inside.

The DEA are working with the Los Angeles police, the county coroner’s office and the county district attorney’s office in investigating Jackson’s June 25 death.

“We’re looking at all the records of this pharmacy.” Martinez said… adding, “Mickey Pharmacy has been cooperative.”

Again, misleading headline from TMZ just to get hits and generate interest on their website. They could've just said Arnold Klien's Ex-Employee Dies, simple as that, but no, they really have to squeeze MJ's name somewhere in there.

After reading fan's testimony about Michael visiting dr. Klein's office nothing looks strange to me. Klein is another damn doctor who has to be investigated. That's all. Why his employee died from drugs is another serious question for LAPD.
It seems like too many ppl in Hollywood suddenly die from drug overdose.

I don't know about anybody else, but I have never heard anything like that in my entire life. A pharmacy stores their OWN drugs, which you can only obtain with a prescription.

Does Klein really expect people to believe that this Ayers guy, the "former" drug addict, was just able to walk into this supposed pharmacy and obtain expired Demerol? I don't believe that for a second.

Klein, in a very clumsy way, is trying to get in front of whatever is about to come down, in my opinion.

So - eh, Harvey's got a decent reputation in LA when it comes to celebrity/legal stuff. But not certainly the best though.

Its a bit ridiculous that TMZ are trying to link anything these days to Michael though it does make you shudder even more at just what was going on in Kleins practice.
 
I think this story tells us what shady things Klien and his employees do in that office , by the way it seems Klien prefer all of his employees to be of 'certain type and shape' . I bet one of the work requirement is to sleep with him .

I watched it and someone asked the question if maybe Bruce was supplying MJ with Demorol from Klein's office. Then Harvey said that Klein told him that MJ "hated"- and he emphasized this word- Bruce. Harvey said he should have added this to the story (but of course he wouldn't because then his story wouldn't seem so sensational).

It is actually on part 2 of TMZ live for that day.

Exactly - so the implication that MJ got Demorol from the ex-employee is FALSE - because MJ hated the guy and didn't want to be around him.

Why is Demorol even still talked about. It was not found in his body and it wasn't even found in his house when he died. So, even if he got Demorol for this guy, it does not make a bit of different.

I swear, some people are just stubborn.

tmz love pushing the druggie angle. klien would have had no problems giving mj demoral. just go back to 93. within weeks of mj coming out of rehab klien was treating him again with guess what demoral:doh:

No he just said that Klein really wanted it known that MJ hated him. He gave no further info. The problem with people like Klein is when they need to be quiet, they won't shut up. But, when you would like for them to speak to expound on something, they suddenly want to get kryptic. Go figure.
