Katherine Jackson, the mother of the late entertainer Michael Jackson will be in attendance at a press conference to announce the first annual International King of Pop Fanvention on March 9, 2010 at 10 a.m.(CST). The press conference will be held at the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza, in the Star Plaza Theatre, 800 E. 81st Avenue in Merrillville, IN. The hotel is just 10 minutes from the childhood home of Jackson.
.
The Fanvention will take place during the weekend of August 26 – 29, 2010. The event, organized by Fluid Productions, LLC in partnership with the Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza in Merrillville is expected to attract over ten thousand enthusiastic Michael Jackson fans from around the world to celebrate Jacksons’ legacies of humanity, love for the environment and music. Donald Thompson, event director, said “This is the only event of its kind in the world because it is the only event that will be held so close to his boyhood home. We felt that Indiana was the perfect place to host an event that will highlight Michael’s life and music. It just makes sense. It all began here.”

The Fanvention, which is a combination of the words “fan” and “convention”, will include autograph and photo sessions with people that worked with and knew Michael. Members of the Jackson family will be in attendance and will participate in question and answer sessions about Michael. A dance party and gala are also scheduled. Tours will also run to the Jackson family home throughout the weekend. Vendors will be on hand to sell memorabilia and collector’s items. A special salute to Jackson will be performed by young entertainers from the northwest Indiana area on Sunday.

Why would fans want someone's autograph just because that person worked with Michael? Why put vendors there so they can make even more money off Michael's death? Am I the only fan who just doesn't 'get' this?

Maybe I'm still too mad to get it. :(

I'm just as dazed about this as your are......and would'nt they have to seek the approval of MJ's Estate in order to do this? From reading the article it all does'nt seem to above board if you ask me.

I really don't know why fans INSIST on sh*ting on just about EVERYTHING that has to do with KEEPING MJ's LEGACY alive, because that is what this event is going to do if it becomes an annual thing. If I lived in Gary or near there I would DEFFINITLY go. Michael is not here anymore, EVERYTHING that is done in his name WILL in someway generate money...oh well that's just the way it is, so "cashing in" is inevitable. Unless you want him to fade into obscurity, stop complaining so much.

This sounds cool

Everyone has a right to their opinion, and I am voicing mine. If they want to keep Michael's legacy alive, why not donate the shitload of money they are spending on such a 'fanvention' to charity?

The bit in bold, yeh, idk why you'd want that. About the vendors.. well I assume that they would be selling official merchandise which is approved by, and benefits the Estate.

Seems like they do if Katherine is going to be at the announcement for it and the family are going to be there.

I didn't get this from a news site it was a PR announcement site, its a press release.. I think.

I don't know why this made me laugh, are we supposed to say "omg genius!"

Never heard of a Keith Jackson...

I totally understand why some fans don't trust this. I personally would really like to go to this, if my budget allows me around that time. You know, I don't really care about all the autographs and stuff. To me it's just about honoring Mike, and I know some will say that you can do this in many different ways, but it's important for me in order to process everything that have happened (yes, im still grieving) by talking. This just sounds so much better than that tribute Jermaine was going to organize. I don't care about A list stars singing his songs, I just want to be able to talk to people who love him and share the wonderful stories of memories they have of Michael.
Especially since Katherine is going to be there, I am looking forward to hearing her stories. Besides that, I always wanted to see where Mike was coming from. Where he was raised, that's his home. I want to see this and feel the energy, so I can understand his career better.

Now those are genuine, proper reasons to go. I don't like this whole thing, but I keep my fingers crossed that you can make it because it means a lot to you.

I get you loud and clear.

Is the estate involved in this? MJ left an estate, so I am assuming all this has to receive approval for it to be OFFICIAL...otherwise, someone else if making money off MJ's name. Regardless if Joe, Katherine, Omer Bhatti or Jermaine Jackson are involved or not.

Unless it is an official event, I don't care about it.

i so agree with you here, i wasnt going to comment cuz i wasnt feeling what was being said. i wish they had all types of events for fans to get together MJ all around the world. anything just to keep his legacy alive, and i love this idea, and so what if they make money , just think of the joy that will be spreading.

Sounds like a great event. I won't be able to go, I'm saving up so I can centre my LA trip around going to the courthouse when Murray goes on trial. Whoever does go have an amazing time xxx

I agree with you snorlaaax. These are the reasons I'd like to go also:yes:
I'd like to see 2300 Jackson street, the little humble home where Michael was raised, and the humble beginnings......of the man who turned from a cute little lad into the man we adore.:clapping:
Only problem is saving up to get there from the UK:doh:

omg can't wait to get Keith Jackson & Omer autographs!!!

Agreed. I think it's a great idea and wonderful that Katherine is supporting this. I really have no idea why some fans need to be so negative all the time. Either way, I would love to go. I'm really gonna try to make the trip this summer.

They should do something like Spike Lee's (but in Indiana or Los Angeles)...It is free for fans and it would be a nice way to keep his legacy.

I am attending Spike Lee's bash for Michael's birthday this coming august.

Sounds cool.

There's no way i can afford to fly to the US though so i hope a future event will be held somewhere in europe.

Yeah, it bothers me that this is at the same time as that. I was there last year and it was absolutely the most pure celebration there could have been. It was literally a whoooooole lot of people who loved him, standing together in a park, for hours, while his music played. And everyone was loving it. Simple and to the point. It was like being at a concert, (...closest I'll ever get :() everyone was so tuned in to his voice, to his performance on the record. People were smiling and crying. It was almost spiritual. I definitely felt love, love, love there. :)
