Re: sentencing hearing 29th November

Why has the US has that system?!?!?!?!?! WHy have a trial and sentence?! If the sheriff decide what time he really does?!?! PLEASE Im soo mad i dont get this?! a sherif isnt a judge??? Like cooley said he should honor the judge but he doesnt!1

because there isn't enough prisons for all the criminals. So they have let some go. So the sheriff who runs the prisons decide who can go home early and generally non violent criminals will be allowed to leave early.

They just do, as lots of other people mentioned the UK has the exact same system. Get out in half the time if you're good.

Re: sentencing hearing 29th November

yes Ivy and sophielo. Half time ok.. but not more less than that. Like cooley said some only spend 10 procent of the time of there sentencing. Thats just to low! Then make more jails..

Re: sentencing hearing 29th November

I missed the judge's speech...has anyone got a link or is it too soon? Thanks

Re: sentencing hearing 29th November

His mug shot looks the same as he usually does. *shrugged*

Also, part of the reason for the overcrowding is because of illegal drugs. Because of the harsh drug laws, specially with those who used and possessed crack, their are people in state prison serving close to life sentences. It wasn't until 2010 that the sentencing became more even.

For example, A mother and grandmother is serving the 17th year of a 27-year federal prison sentence for a first-time, non-violent crack cocaine conviction.

And Cm will spend maybe 1 year... pfff

Re: sentencing hearing 29th November

Thank you Judge Pastor. I had the feeling he would have sentenced him to state prison had he been allowed to do so.

Re: sentencing hearing 29th November

So i guess i missed it all. DAMN
Anyway, glad to see that Murray got what he deserved

L.A. County sheriff's officials said Conrad Murray will only serve about two years of his four-year sentence behind bars, but at this point is not eligible for home detention.
Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told The Times that officials were still trying to determine the exact details of his incarceration. But under state law, nonviolent felons in California serve 50% of their sentences.
While the the Sheriff's Department is considering electronic monitoring at home for some inmates, Whitmore said Murray's involuntary manslaughter conviction in the death of Michael Jackson will likely mean he spends the entire two years in jail. That's the maximum sentence the law will allow, Whitmore said.

Under a new state prison policy, defendants convicted of certain nonviolent crimes will spend their terms in County Jail instead of the overcrowded state prison system.
Under the law, involuntary manslaughter as well as crimes such as drug offenses and identity theft no longer require state prison time.
In blistering and lengthy remarks, Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor sentenced Murray to four years in prison. He also lambasted the doctor for failing to express any remorse for the pop star’s death and suggesting in a recent documentary that Jackson bore responsibility for his own demise.
“Talk about blaming the victim,” Pastor said. “Not only isn’t there any remorse, there is umbrage and outrage on the part of Dr. Murray against the decedent.”

Pastor denied the defense's request for probation.
"The fact remains, Dr. Murray is offended that [his] patient died," Pastor said in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom. And Murray remains a danger to the community, he said.
Murray did not speak before Pastor issued his sentence.

same here he was utterly disgusted by ConRAT's reckless behavior.

Oh and b4 I forget ef Jermaine or anyone else in the family turning this into a mockery

It is kind of funny that you can get more time in jail for having a kilo of crack than for actually killing someone. For the time that woman got she could had robbed a bank.

But, like I said, that's why the prisons are so crowded. That's also part of the reason why drug laws are being change.

Re: sentencing hearing 29th November

Dave did one hell of a good job along with Debbie, Michael E. was open minded and unbiased, we couldn't have asked for better folks to handle this matter.

Re: sentencing hearing 29th November

Btw, in case anyone missed it, Walgren will be on In Session tomorrow at 10am central time. That's two hours ahead eastern standard time for those going by Cal time zone.

What does it mean this ?

abc7MurrayTrial ABC7 Murray Trial
DA Steve Cooley may appeal the sentence to try to force Conrad Murray to state prison instead of county jail
9 minutes ago

Murray could stay 4 years in jail so? God I hope so!

And he wanted to blackmailed Mike, he should stay in jail more than 4 years with that!

Re: sentencing hearing 29th November

but it isnt decided by a sherif right? but by a judge? Also the half time is more than cooley said CM prob will get. Like lohan only get a few hours!

Sorry, didn't answer question - had left my computer. Others have answered it. But in the uk, the serving of half the sentence is just automatic - only if you're bad in jail, do they change that. i suspect it's similar in the us - you just need some type of incentive for inmates to behave themselves once they're inside. UK, like california, has run out of money - we're making cuts, so that means keeping the prison population down.

He was going to do half of four years anyway. Just be happy with what he got plea

Glad justice has finally been done. Yes, I wish it was a longer sentence, but nothing is gonna bring Michael back so we should be happy with what he got.
