Xscape General Discussion

My thoughts on Blue Gangsta...I love, love, love heavy bass. But after listening to the 'new' version several times, I'll stick to the original. I love the syncopation, the rhythm, the horns, the accordion. It makes me move. Love his powerful, emotional delivery. {"I can no longer smile, baby"} I can't even hear when he says, "You make me wanna sing" in the 2014 version, a line that makes me gasp...I've played that part over and over again just to hear him say it. One of my favorite tunes, I must admit.

I love both actually. The new version is just fresher and new. Although I have to admit I also miss the : I believe it is " or make me want to see you" which is very sexy imo. I just keep going back and forth between the two. :chillin:

AlwaysThere, that logic means Jerkins can now do as he pleases with Xscape which includes remixing it, put another singer on the track and leak it to radio simply because he remixed it as Stewart did. Illogical.

The same estate stated Michael was on 100% of the Michael cd when he was not. If the leaked duet succeeded Estate/Sony would take a bow and claim credit. The experiment failed and they continue their distance from it.

Only L.A. Reid was courageous enough to admit the only reason it was not released was the leak. It was more likely the reaction to the leak than just the leak itself.

That's actually quite logical. Jerkins has the multitracks to every song he produced with Michael and, if he so desired, could call in Lady Gaga to record vocals for it. The issue comes when Rodney has to ask permission from the estate to release it. But for the record, neither Tricky Stewart nor Max Methods (producer of the Bieber remix) leaked Slave to the Rhythm. Like any other track, it leaked from an anonymous source.

Are you seriously comparing the Bieber duet to the Cascio tracks? Two entirely separate situations. Here, the estate outlined that they did not sanction the recording and, therefore, it would not be released.

Until Tricky Stewart comes forward and admits that Branca and McClain asked him for this remix to be made, it seems that some fans are just searching for another reason for #UnnecessaryEstateHate

I LOVE Xscape..But I have to get used to hearing the upadated verisons of Blue gangsta, A place with no name and Xscape. Just my thoughts for now.. :)

Thanks for this. It seems after the US release of Xscape the discussion here has really declined. There was a lot of excitement on the 9th but by the 13th, it began to get quite quiet. Is everyone out listening to their albums? Where did all the hype and excitement go?

I hear ya on that. I noticed the decline. Hopefully it picks up. Enjoy the album!

The prospect of those Will.i.am tracks is exciting to me. It seems like the most complete stuff MJ worked on in his final years. He spent a lot of time crafting those tracks. Whichever way they end up appearing I'd be happy. In saying that, it is pretty silly that will.i.am said he wouldn't let the tracks be released out of respect for MJ, then suddenly he wants one on his own album. I'm just glad his position has softened and it looks like we will eventually get those songs.

In the meantime .. XSCAPE RULES!

Haven't managed to be on here for a while, I trust you're all enjoying the Xscape album as much as I am and not arguing about the small stuff *cough*.

For me, I'm loving it more than I thought possible, and this is the most fun I've had listening to an MJ album since HIStory came out. And what I mean by that is I enjoy every track and not left disappointed like I was with Invincible (and of course Michael).

I haven't got time for a full review now, but high point surprises for me are 'A Place With No Name' both versions, Blue Gangsta, Xscape, well all really. His vocals throughout the album are immense.

No real low points, but and maybe because this I was so familiar with another version, but I think Do You Know Where Your Children Are suffers from the remix. I miss the grinding, dirty guitar riff I was used to. Also I don't get why they called Chicago that name, doesn't make sense. Small potatoes though.

Love the fact that the demos are on the same disc so I don't have to choose what to listen to, I can just stick the whole album on & sit back.

I didn't realised how much I missed listening to new MJ music and how excited I got about new releases.

They've done a great job with this. Between this and Bad 25, it's been a great couple of years material wise.

I hope this project get the support it deserves.

Tony, you're the man! Agree! I often feel guilty about admitting that Xscape has giving me more joy than Invincible even though I do love a lot of the tracks in Vince but not all unfortunately, but Xscape I love every one of them. The love and support this release has gotten is astonishing. Both the critics and fans, general public and the PROMOTION wow!

Just as a side note: my KG students are absolutely enjoying LNFSG. The parts were Babeeee comes on we all sing our hearts out and point at each other - it is priceless. I've been hyping this album to them so much that a lot of them have actually gone to Wal Mart and had their parents buy the album. It does my heart good, that even without the MAN being here he still brings joy to a brand new generation!

It is very hard to come here and also listen to the album. I've been trying to do both but it is exhausting. :cheeky:

I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive, but I'm being patient! The promotion is too much. Can not wait for Sunday.

:Chillin:

lol @ Will I Am thanks mate keep your music we'll have timbaland or jerkins work with vocals hahahaha thats the email he should receive from the estate lol

Tricia love the kindergarten story. You know I have met some toddlers who love Michael, so it is wonderful that you can introduce those little ones to Xscape. Kids love catchy tunes with a word or 2 that they can keep repeating, and if a gesture is involved, then they are happier than ever.

AlwaysThere, characterize me as you wish; it does not clarify your argument.

The music business is just that: a business. No one appreciates being deceived for profit and yet there is no official explanation or apology for 30% of the Michael cd and there will be none. Similarly you will not receive official word that duet was commissioned from Estate/Sony.

L.A. Reid admitted the reason the duet was not (officially) released was the leak. What does this mean? The duet was going to be released! Who do you believe commissioned that? You believe Estate/Sony would release a remix Stewart commissioned? Who called Afrojack?

Reid never mentioned nor accused Stewart or Methods of not receiving permission to release it or complete the remix as you state. As for an anonymous source, the source was high-ranking enough to get the leak on radio instead of remaining in the fan community as the other six (!) Xscape leaks did. You believe Stewart/Methods/Bieber have that type of power over Sony? Jerkins' Xscape has been a favorite for years and he never went rogue and went directly to radio over Sony.

No one wants to be deceived however I will not dream up scenarios or dismiss logic to spare any hurt feelings over what some believe is a nightmarish duet that in reality was pretty good.

I have been listening to Xscape non stop on damn repeat! The contemporized versions as well as the demos! I wish Invincible got this same promo! =( It deserved it, has great songs on it and I always loved that album! It to me still sounds like it would fit with today! So IMO great back to backs! I don't count the last post album despite the 7 that are MJ and I liked, especially Best Of Joy! Which is the Highlight on that album to me!

Tygger, I've come to a definitive conclusion as far as the Bieber duet is concerned: L.A. Reid commissioned it without informing the estate. Hear me out on this one.

Given that he is the lead producer of the project (notwithstanding the fact that he himself cowrote and coproduced the original recording), Reid is obviously in possession of the multitracked recordings for Slave to the Rhythm.

According to Max Methods, who produced the Bieber/Jackson duet, Tricky Stewart (who, as we all know, reproduced Slave in 2010 for the Michael album) asked him to reproduce the song with new vocals from Bieber. What I just recently learned is that Tricky is CEO of Redzone Entertainment, which is a record subsidiary with Island Def Jam...which L.A. Reid is the CEO of.

My theory is that L.A. asked Tricky to arrange the duet, after which he would submit it to the estate and attempt to get it on the album. If I'm not mistaken, didn't Justin Timberlake say that Timbaland encouraged him to record vocals for the song? The same situation could have occured here.

The song leaks, the estate finds out about it and immediately shuts it down. They said in three separate statements that the recording was unauthorized and that there were no plans to release a Bieber/Jackson duet at any point.

For me, this explains everything quite well.

AlwaysThere, ^^^ this theory is interesting and intriguing. However; I am having a bit of difficulty believing L.A. Reid, a top ranking executive whose titles you have listed, would need to deceive Michael’s executors and put his own career at risk over one duet. What would be the benefit? He is compensated regardless so it is not monies.

Even Timbaland could not get his man Timberlake to participate in Xscape without legal approvals and such first.

The experiment did not work as plan and someone needs to take blame. I blame those fans who were vocal only because of the duet partner. Not one comment about Michael’s vocals or even the mix; only a dislike for Bieber. It killed potential profits from a potential radio hit and that negative feedback was why the song was not released.

Only one man gave his reason why the song was not released. I believe him. It does not impress me that the Estate characterized the song as unauthorized three times. The Estate releases statements fairly quickly in their own defense.

Err, if fans weren't interesting in hearing a Michael Jackson, Justin Bieber duet, how are they to blame for that? It's a shitty idea, period. The "potential profit" potential profit from what? A song that the Estate never intended to be released? There'd be no profit. And even if it was planned, thank god it was canned Little pre-teens who hear a Michael Jackson song with a Justin Bieber feature, and then claim Bieber wrote the whole song, merging with this forum would've been a potential disaster.

I'm not trying to flame here. This is my honest opinion;

A lot of the posts before the album, came from people who were complaining/criticising about almost everything. Now the album has been released, has been excellent, and been received well - by press, public, and, more importantly, the fans - the complainers have had most of their reason for posting taken away from them (even the Beiber 'catastrophe' was nipped in the bud nice and early). ;D

We might have less posts. But I am enjoying the positivity of the vast majority of them. Rather than, like before, having to trawl through mountains of negative nonsense.

Long may it continue! :cheeky:

I havent listened to an album this much after release in years, possibly since HIStory (couldnt stop listening to that). The new songs seem to grow on me more and more, but they also seem to annoy me from time to time with the blippety blip sounds and such. All in all, I love this album. Chicago (Original) has also possibly entered my all time top 10 MJ songs. How that, xscape and another day were left off invincible is mind boggling!

NRJ Finland, one of the biggest radio channels here in Finland has started playing LNFSG and an ad for Xscape quite often now. There is a 'battle' every evening between two new singles and the audience can vote which song continues the next day. LNFSG started on Monday this week and it has won all the battles! It has already beaten Usher, Linkin Park, Sigma and Jason Derulo. :D

For six decades Michael Jackson has been one of the world's most important (and arguably the most prolific) artists of our time. Reaching into the vault of the late icon, producer Timbaland helped piece together a collection of Michael's unreleased tracks to create new album Xscape.
Go inside the studio with producers like Rodney Jerkins, StarGate, Jerome "J-Roc" Harmon and John McClain, the Epic team, led by L.A Reid to see what will make Xscape one of the late talent's most varied bodies of work yet.

Don't miss MJ's Xscape -The Documentary on Friday at 10:30P/9:30C.
