I Am a Fan, But... (What Makes You Heretic Among Other Fans?)

  • There are no bad songs on OTW, Thriller and Bad - however I only really like a few songs on HIstory and Invincible
  • I love J5/The Jacksons (especially Triumph and Destiny) too
  • I'm also a Prince fan - but Prince is Prince, Michael is KING ;)
  • It's hard for me to watch MJ during the time 2001-2004
  • I wish MJ would have found someone to help him with his mental health
  • MJ passed away on my b-day 😢

When MJ made love songs, they were too catchy for me to ever "make love" to. Hearing MJ sing about his "stroke game" or whatever would've been far more awkward to me than The Lost Children or anything like that. I saw MJ pretty much as behind those basic human things lol.
Excuse me, please. I don't get it, but it's very interesting to know. Can you explain?

MJ wasn't explicit and wasn't about sex. Sexual music. Imo. But it is powerful. I at least dint compare him in that way to say, Marvin Gaye.

Thanks for the explanation. It makes more sense to me. I didn't immediately understand what was wrong with the stroke.
My not knowing English helps me not get distracted by such things😃

This Thread is absolutely horrifying reading some opinions... lemme take part!!

1. I am not a big fan of Streetwalker and I'm glad it didn't end up on BAD
2. I absolutely LOVE The Lost Children and see to it as one of the best songs on Invincible
3. Every album after Thriller was better production wise and from a lyrical standpoint...
4. The Top songs on Blood On The Dancefloor > The top songs on Off The Wall
5. I really like the remix on the 'Scream' compilation album! Also the artwork is beautiful, only the tracklist is absolutely garbage.

I like most of Invincibles ballads more than She's Out of My Life, and I've probably listened to them more than We've Had Enough and Is It Scary combined.

Those songs are still quite catchy though. And SOOML is a great demo.

I've decided I really like the sound of Bad sonically. Maybe it's not superior to Thriller but it's just as good really. It doesn't take away from any song.

Dangerous, on the other hand, kinda does. It sounds, dry. Where HIStory has way more, well, moisture.

At the time alot of stars Madonna and Prince were extremely sexually explicit using their ways to idk ...whatever ..sell their brand to us. i dont know if people are nowadays ? or is that not allowed.( Shocking when you think about what Madonna did to us as kids ...showing all that. and Michael was completely the opposite and got grilled for being decent.)
M was not like that. He had something to say, It was the mindset i gravitated towards and this sort of .. perfect timing (in my own personal life) around 1991 ..
Anyway. around 1987/88 i remember going to the shop with my friend buying all magazines of M...for her. my friend was a huge fan of Michael a few years previous. ...as were my other friends.
Nope. I didn't get it.
he came to me in 1991 -with Teddy Riley and David Lynch. And his unity message and all of Dangerous and what the album had to offer.
Okay now i got it. if he had been like his peers , So , if he had been anywhere near her erotica book . i would not be here supporting today.
i don't think that makes me heretic though as alot of people at that time really enjoyed his message and what that album delivered.

I think MJs Superbowl wasn't the best ever. (Prince, Bruno in 2nd place) It was genuinely actually quite, lazy? Rough by his standards. The 95 MTV awards is the greatest ever though, lip-sync and all. As is Motown.

If he had went back, post TII, that would've been the best show we would have ever seen.

1. I hate the history album
2. my favorite album is OTW
3. I love the Jackson family and it makes me cry a little when I see fans criticizing them even Michael's mom
4. I'm not a fan of invincible but I like a few songs
5. I appreciate the person of Michael (his humanitarian and childish side make me crack) but I find that in the following periods, he was a little (a lot *cough* *cough*) delirious: BAD, history and invincible
6. I'm not a fan of mikezilla even though I find Michael and his body both sexy
7. I'm a little disappointed that you can't choose your profile picture on the forum :c

The fact I am big fan of Michael Jackson, but that I am a bigger fan of Prince, and my Prince obsession seems to dominate many of my posts on the site. I can't help, I have purple kool aid flowing through my veins. It's like MJ meets the New Power Generation with me!
I'm not a fan of Prince personally, I know him very little but you have the right to like him more than Michael even if I personally don't agree :)

I heard Prince was respectful when MJ died

I was listening to Bad yesterday, and I realized that I don't like Leave Me Alone so much, neither the song nor the video. It's not to the Girlfriend or CGOOTR level not like, but if I am short of time and must skip one song from Bad, that's the one I would skip.

???

You've confused me now! LMA is on the Bad album. At least, it's on the CD. Don't think it's on the vinyl version. :)

Mind blown!

I know, me too 🤯! It took me a while to decide that's I am not so much into LMA, though I can feel the vibe, just leave me alone to do what I want to do, but there is something about it.
I listened to Bad today and I didn't vibe as hard. Idk, guess I'm past that phase. It's really just not enjoyable with this 2012 remaster.

1. Thriller is good but very overplayed
2. Dangerous is by far Michael's greatest album ever
3. Most of Michael's unreleased tracks are better then some of what got released
4. Rodney Jerkins is the most overrated producer to work with Michael
5. Michael's album sales decline in the late 90s to his death was self inflicted for the most part.
6. Bad should have been a double or triple album release like Michael orginally wanted.
