10th March, 2008: MJ News and Mentionings

Hopefully Thriller 25 will be in the Top 5 this week crosses fingers :D.

Isn't it funny that they always remember that MJ owns the company when they want to bring negative news. I was always thinking that Paul could not have done any signing for those songs as he doesn't own them and wouldn't have needed to give his permission fir them, so I was rather dubious about the story anyway.

  so they can have that segment of Beatles fans who hate MJ blame him for not getting the Beatles on ITunes.

What TSCM posted was interesting. I knew that story regarding the Catalogue going to itunes was fishy. Thanks for posting.

That is the whole idea, to stir up hate for Michael. Isn't it funny too that they claim that MJ is in need of money desparately, yet he appears to be the obstacle in the way of them making millions. The people are crazy. They need their heads examined cause they are going loco over Michael jackson. He is driving them insane.:mello:

Michael Jackson HIStory:

1988 - Michael Jackson said "I would like to say this about the United Negro College Fund. An education opens a person's mind to the entire world, and there is nothing more important than to make sure everyone has the opportunity for an education. To want to learn, to have the capacity to learn and not to be able is a tragedy. I am honored to be associated with an evening that says this will never happen."

2004 - It was reported in Santa Barbara, CA, that the Michael Jackson molestation case was possibly on a Grand Jury docket.

2005 - Michael Jackson arrived late for court in his child molestation trial due to a back injury. The judge threatened to put Jackson in jail. Jackson arrived in pajama bottoms and slippers.

What kind of random dates are those? Well, I like the first one, thanks for posting. :)

I competely agree. The media constantly claim that Michael is teetering on the brink of destitution. Yet they also admit that he still owns half of one of the most valuable things in the music world. When it comes down to the basics, they seem to want to have it both ways. And that is making them look silly.

Yes, these people write utter madness about MJ. If an individual person said some of the things the media writes about him they would have been escorted to a mental hospital already, yet the media continues on with their collective madness, and no matter how they are exposed they just can't seem to help themselves. They are crazy, I tell you.:mello:

That's the same thing I noticed! In BIG BOLD HEADING. Michael jackson's company! huh? what! All they had to say was sony/ATV not MICHAEL JACKSON'S company. Oh so NOW they wanted to put michael on blast and call him out like that. Now ain't that some serious, hating-on, mess.-_-

i just loved putting all these quotes together to illustrate just how certifiable the media really is....what scares me is anybody who believes them after all these ramblings of the media are put into context.

the nerve of them to call Britney 'certifiable'.

These are the same media people who got mad at Michael and Sony some years back for allowing the Beatles song to be used for the Nike ad. Now they want the Beatles songs to be all over Itunes. And if they don't get on there, it is of course, Michael's fault.

once again, i agree. the two facedness of the media is deplorable.

Michael Jackson's company denies Beatles coming to iTunes

The company that owns the rights to a vast majority of the Beatles music catalog has questioned reports that the Fab Four have cut a deal with Steve Jobs.
Sony/ATV Music Publishing, the joint venture owned by Sony and singer Michael Jackson, has thrown cold water on reports out of London that the Beatles catalog would soon be available on iTunes. A spokeswoman for Sony/ATV Music Publishing told CNET News.com that the reports are "untrue."
Sony/ATV is a pretty good source. While EMI Group owns the recording rights to the Beatles catalog, Sony and Jackson own the rights to the vast majority of the catalog's publishing rights. Had a deal been cut, Sony/ATV would "absolutely be informed," the Sony/ATV spokeswoman said.

Stories about the Fab Four heading to iTunes crop up every few months, it seems, and rumors and unconfirmed reports have been circulating for five years. This time, the story appeared to have legs as it was reported by three large British newspapers. They all cited unnamed sources.
A high-level music industry source said an agreement between the Beatles and Apple could still get inked in 2008 but that it hasn't been finished.
Representatives for EMI and Apple declined to comment for the story.
One has to wonder why these rumors and unconfirmed reports continue to crop up. Is it a case of wishful thinking on the part of Beatles fans or Apple?
The availability of the Beatles, the best-selling band of all time, on iTunes would send the most dramatic signal to date that digital downloads are an integral part of mainstream music, said Susan Kevorkian, a music analyst with research group IDC.
"It's important for iTunes and online music services in general because it legitimizes IP-based music services," Kevorkian said. "It also points to the fact that digital music services are maturing when important groups that have been high-profile holdouts come onboard."
In the last several years, Madonna, Led Zeppelin, and Metallica--artists who once spurned Internet sales of their music--reversed themselves and embraced iTunes.
Earlier Monday, Chris Castle, a music lawyer and former record label executive predicted that a Web-based Beatlemania would be big for iTunes and Beatles fans alike.
He said the Beatles could release formerly unreleased music "that they might have lying around," and the offering could also include some kind of video element. He said that even though the Beatles broke up nearly 40 years ago, Castle said Apple Corps, the Beatles' media company, would find a way to "dress up the offering" so that it would create excitement even among longtime Beatles fans.
Jeff Jones, the new head of Apple Corps, "is known as a catalog genius," Castle said. "If there is anybody that can figure out how to make this work it's him. I would expect to see some pleasant surprises from Jeff."
Castle said that what fans likely won't find with a Beatles offering on iTunes is a discount.
"This is a band that has sold music at premium prices for four decades," Castle said. "They've never been discounted. I would be shocked to see any competition on price. Think about it. The Beatles have kept (their brand) precious and popular for a long time. They've done this by knowing how to treat their fans and knowing what didn't work for them."
The Beatles were unlikely candidates to join iTunes. Apple Corps had a series of trademark disputes with Apple Inc. going back to 1976 when Beatle guitarist George Harrison saw an ad for the then Apple Computer. The band thought the new company had infringed on their trademark and sued. The case was settled out of court.
There were other legal skirmishes along way, but last year, Paul McCartney told reporters in Great Britain that he thought a deal with Apple CEO Steve Jobs was close to being finalized.
If and when the Beatles arrive at iTunes, there'll be plenty of people who will ask, "Why all the fuss?" The music has been available for free on peer-to-peer sites for years.
According to Castle, the Beatles were an unprecedented combination of talent and timing, and even after all this time, still possess an enormous following.
"You had the musical genius, business genius, and extraordinary popularity that crossed all genres and formats," Castle said. "You've never had that before or since."

'Thriller' zombies on the rise

To increase public awareness of the 25th-anniversary edition of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" -- released last month and selling slowly -- record label Sony BMG has staged zombie dances in unexpected places.
According to The New York Times, on the London Underground, "stony-faced passengers rose at random and burst into the jerky slide kick" familiar from the famous video. Then they sat back down as if nothing had happened.
The surreal incident, as well as similar staged scenes in Copenhagen and Sydney, went out over YouTube, and together they've been viewed more than a million times.
See the London video at goto.seattlepi.com/r1299.

On a lighter note, I have another story to share.

A friend (not a fan) hailed me on messenger to share an MJ story with me. Here is the direct quote from him:

"i was walkin past a rum shop 2 day in town.michael was on the dvd performin beat it
and i over heard a drunk talking amongst other drunks and i realised something in that moment that their exposure to michael jackson actually made their diction and vocabulary of these men improve in a major way. i hear this man use words about michael jackson that i swear he didnt understand the meaning of. he said summin like "my man, i'll state it right here and right now michael jackson is the epitome of talent". epitome! why is a drunk using such a word. oh rite i remember summin else. he was commenting on the stage and lighting and said words like fluroscent and stratosphere, flabbergasted. u see the good that man (michael) is doing to the community?"

That gave me a good laugh and I was beaming with pride.

Speaking of media ramblings:

Remember the reports starting out that two fans were going to bid on Neverland and rent it to Michael if they got it? Well the story has grown to them knowing their way around real estate and having already bought it. :toofunny:

It reminds me of in grade school when we had to pass a message around the room by whispering to the person in the seat in back of us. By the time it got around the room it was nothing like the original statement (which was also made up.)

lol

Kids May Have To Swear Pledge To Queen (UK) (MJ Related)

Schoolchildren may have to swear allegiance to the Queen under proposals aimed at promoting British citizenship.

A new public holiday could also be introduced to celebrate Britishness, under recommendations being published today.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown commissioned Lord Goldsmith to lead a review into a bid to strengthen national identity.
The former Attorney General is also expected to propose greater involvement in citizenship ceremonies brought in by the Government four years ago.

Last October, a preliminary report published as part of Lord Goldsmith's review said that schoolchildren should take part in the same kind of ceremonies for foreigners taking British nationality.
The style and content of the events should be "re-energised", perhaps with a rendition by schoolchildren of the pop song We Are The World - the US version of 1984's Band Aid single - last year's report said.

This week it was reported that Lord Goldsmith would recommend that pupils be encouraged to swear an oath pledging allegiance to the Queen and respect for the law.
The study is also expected to suggest a major overhaul of "archaic" treason laws.
It has been reported that laws such as sleeping with the wife of the heir to the throne, which carries a possible punishment of life imprisonment, would be scrapped or reformed because they are regarded as outdated.
Lord Goldsmith has also hinted at updating the national anthem by removing verses which are rarely performed.

Last October's preliminary document accused senior politicians of lacking enthusiasm for citizenship ceremonies introduced by the Government just four years ago.

Some news report that the rendition could be Heal The World from MJ's Dangerous album.

hah that's so random
but im intrigued.

Re: Kids May Have To Swear Pledge To Queen (UK) (MJ Related)

We used to sing Heal The World in primary school. But I was unaware that it was an MJ song at the time. But it was one of my favourite songs to sing as a kid. It gave out a very positive message. A message that all children should know about. I'm up for all the singing an MJ song.:punk:
