To get today going I've started a new thread.

There will be no discussing Neverland in this thread. There is a separate and specific thread for 'Neverland' discussion.

Thriller 25

3:53p.m. 27 February 2008
| By Trevor Hockins

ALBUM: Thriller 25

ARTIST: Michael Jackson and guests

LABEL: Sony

VERDICT: 9/10
When Thriller was first released, Michael Jackson had a fulsome nose, was yet to have any skin “treatments” and Neverland existed only in Peter Pan stories.
Jackson was the 20-something funk-soul brother wunderkindt who had cut his first solo album only three years before. The debut was good, but not great.
Then came Thriller, superbly produced tales of horror, love, fanaticism, hope, struggle and good humour, each put to a new killer beat.
The album, to date, has sold 104 million copies worldwide, and has had five number one hits: Billie Jean, Beat It, Thriller, The Girl is Mine and Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’. Its soul, funk and dance rhythms swirl around ice-cool pop tunes that are topped off by ground-breaking videos that in 1983 set the stage for a new generation of music packaging.
Thriller’s record, with the popularity of downloads on the rise, is unlikely ever to be beaten. But that pales next to the fact that Thriller is a great album, even though it was crafted by a deeply flawed character.
The extras on Thriller 25 (including Vincent Price excerpts, and reworked songs with guests like Kanye West and Fergie) are worth another listen. And if you haven’t heard it, treat yourself.

Thanks. I reads the first line of the article and was turned off. If they can't write an article and focus on the music, I really don't want to know.

It's not your fault Shannon, you are doing a great job. This is the way I have always acted with these articles, but I don't know what prompted me to comment here. I must be feeling a little touchy today.:)

I'm not sure if this was mentioned on the general forum or not.. I saw it in the Janet section BUT:

JANET JACKSON is gonig to be on LARRY KING tomarrow night.. (Thursday)

talking about her love life, new album, and her famous family.....

Oh dear! Anyone want to bet what Larry is going to ask tomorrow night? LOL!

Larry King better not ask her anything about Michael's Neverland. That is not her business to discuss and I hope she warns him before she sits in his chair.

I don't mind people critisizing Michael if there is some basis for it, but mocking him for being unsuccessful with T25 is simply absurd. It's only been out for a week and it debuted at no 2 (albeit inofficially) in the US and no 1 globally. That would have been huge for any album, let alone a 25 year old one. So far, it's been a smashing success.

I have to laugh, because I'm not even a big record buyer anymore, but even I know that some NEW music releases are not getting those types of numbers and these are artist who are actively promoting their new projects.

The way the record buying public is today, I'm sure an artist who is out there with a new project would welcome those Thriller 25 numbers. LOL!

Your right it is absurd, and some of these media type's think folks are stupid!

^ It sold over 400,000.. and now proably around 200,000 in the U.S. that is GREAT for a 25 year old album.. They are just trying to bring him down, make people believe he's OVER.

Ignore it. (it's hard I know)
If my calculation is correct it has sold about 221,5 k in the US so far and it has been top 10 in every country I have seen. I think T25 has been doing really well so far but there is no way that they would admit that.

larry is obsessed with michael im sure he'll bring him up at some point if not from the very beginning

No talking about tabloid fare in the News thread. We have a special place for that. Thread cleaned.

Thank you for the news.

Oh dear! Anyone want to bet what Larry is going to ask tomorrow night? LOL!

I do, I do!!

Larry: So, how is Michael? Have you spoken to him lately?

Janet: You know, Larry, I have not spoken to my brother in a long time.

Larry: Really?

Janet: Really. Mike wants nothing to do with me.

Ok, ok, I kid! LOL!

Larry King better not ask her anything about Michael's Neverland. That is not her business to discuss and I hope she warns him before she sits in his chair.

Well, I think he will. Janet might say something but who knows.

Will Beatles Night Finally Hit "American Idol?"

If you're like us, then you've been waiting a long time for American Idol to put on a "Beatles night." If you remember, Fox was close to making it happen last year. The show was given permission by Sony/ATV Music Publishing, the company that owns the great majority of Beatles songs, to use a few of them. The only problem was no suitable mentor could be found. No George Martin. No Ringo Starr. No Paul McCartney. Instead, American Idol put on British Invasion night. No Beatles songs were sung.

But all of a sudden things appear to be looking up for those of you just itching to hear David Archuleta belt out a rendition of "I Want to Hold Your Hand."

On Wednesday Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe made his voice heard on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show, and told audiences, "Sony has agreed to release the Lennon and McCartney songbook to us."

That in itself, is not necessarily breaking news, but the mere fact that the show's producer is touting that info likely means a Beatles show is in the works for this season.

"It's something we've waited for for seven seasons now," Lythgoe continued.

Sony/ATV Music Publishing, a company founded by Sony and Michael Jackson - who may have a bit of incentive to rent his songs out to America's richest show - owns over 180 Beatles songs. The catalog lacks those songs written by George Harrison, such as the classics "Here Comes the Sun," and "Something." But it includes dozens of recognizable hits and lesser ditties (if the Beatles ever composed such a thing) that could probably fill an entire season of Idol performances.

Last year Idol co-executive producer Ken Warwick said the show would be allowed to use only "certain songs" from the Sony/ATV catalog. It isn't clear if that remains true.

Nevertheless, the primary roadblock to making Beatles Week a reality is still finding a suitable host. Last year the show came close to reining in "the Fifth Beatle," legendary producer George Martin. But schedules clashed and ultimately things didn't work out.

We can only hope that this year they do.

Why are they saying NO PAUL MCCARTNEY? What? Did he turn them down? Does he not want to participate? I sure would like to know why he wouldn't. He, as well as Sony/ATV would all be making money.

Tell me about it!

The medias just baiting the fans...dont fall for it :)

Exactly! Misery loves company! ;)

Thanx for the news! and the Beatles update Dorothy_marie. :flowers:
