RENNES, France — French fans of Michael Jackson are suing the late pop star's doctor for "emotional damage" they suffered over his death, their lawyer said Friday.

The case against Conrad Murray, who was jailed in November over the star's 2009 death, is due to be heard in the city of Orleans on April 11, lawyer Emmanuel Ludot said.

"It's similar to losing a childhood friend in a traffic accident. Because this death affects you, you have the possibility to file a suit and seek compensation," Ludot said.

The lawyer is acting for around 100 fans who are members of an association that calls itself the "Michael Jackson Community".

He said that while each fan could be awarded damages of up to 10,000 euros (13,000 dollars), they were seeking only a symbolic euro.

Jackson, aged 50 at the time of his death, had hired Murray at a salary of $150,000 a month to look after him as he rehearsed and embarked on a series of "This is It" planned comeback shows in London.

The star died on June 25, 2009 at his Los Angeles home of an overdose of anaesthetic propofol, taken to help him battle insomnia.

Murray was found guilty in November of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to the maximum four years in prison.

That's quite my opinion too. I think what matters the most is that he was officially established guilty. The rest, I wont criticize, but I dont really see the point, personally. What more could that achieve? Idk

we all know Joe wasn't the best father. frankly i can't stand him. BUT if we look at it technically he filling a lawsuit make more sense. that's all i meant. and you can bet this will be added to the "MJ fans are crazy" list.

This woman insulted Christophe Boulmé at the KOP meeting in Paris, accusing her of cashing in on Michael's death because he was showing a few of his pictures and talking at the event. She said the only thing that should matter was getting justice for Michael, and that there should be no celebration until then.

I guess now it's done, she needs another way of getting some attention... No further comment

 Just

Ben can you translate a summary of the comment on her blog written by tttt?

Christophe Boulmé is one of the owner of the Black and White magazine and he's the creator of many drawings, one of them is Michael Sphinx, he also made the Ghosts cover.

Christophe was Michael's official photographer on many occasions, i.e the Stranger in Moscow set, and HIStory tour. He's the sweetest, and most humble guy ever. He talked in a conference at the KOP meeting, and just broke in tears while talking about Michael. Those idiots who stood outside were beyond ridiculously agressive, and freaking rude. He even went outside to talk and try to explain the point of the event. It just ended up in a heated argument. Those women are a shame to this community.

@Ivy, sure, will check it out asap

yes that's what's going to happen. And nothing else : I don't think they have a case.
here's a link to an article , in french, about this : http://tempsreel.nouvelobs.com/peop...-de-l-assignation-du-dr-murray-en-france.html

It says that the fan group, an association is called "Michael Jackson Community", and is based in Orléans. This is also the town where they filed their "case". The lawyer is Emmanuel Ludot. He is known for having defended Sadam Hussein, wining against an obstetrician who gave birth to a handicapped baby, ./..

His plan is to get Michael's medical files, prove Murray did something wrong in the French courts, and then ask for a compensation from Murray.

The comments at the end of the article are very negative towards the fans who did that.

OK, it's a woman, apparently claiming to be the CEO of a (unamed) company. Basically she's saying :
- they'll loose and be fined because Murray is innocent
- they'll have to pay for Murray's defense lawyers (1000 euros) + 20 000 euros for damages
- in the case of a summary judgement (which is the case here), you need to have proof and they wll never get any bc CM is innocent
- they are stupid and cruel to attack a man that has done nothing against them
- they should stop the procedure while they still can
- they are fanatics who should see a shrink bc the fact that MJ died didnt take anything from their lives
- their site is stupid and they should close it
- No need to try and attack her bc she's a CEO

Personal note : for a CEO, she should definitely improve her spelling and grammar, which are really bad.

imo...I think that these fans are taking this a step to far...HOW does a Michael Jackson FAN put a price on the head of MJ...imo...that makes them no better than the family with their useless lawsuit's. All this is gonna do is make MJ fans look even more insane, I my opinion...NO amount of money could EVER take away the pain of losing Michael...I'm sorry ..I think this is ridiculous...and Michael would be thinking...Why do my fans of ALL people want blood money...and imo..that is what it would be.

Thank you. I don't know about France laws but in USA any emotional distress has to be severe and has to be documented.

According to the article, CM will be summoned to court, april 11th. :hysterical:

Ivy, I'll try to get some info on french laws. The lawyer is more than shady though

I'm not a specialist either, but I would think it's the same here !!! According to the article, the lawyer's idea is if Murray caused harm, he has to pay. So first get a French court to say that Murray did kill Michael, and thus caused harm. Problem is, it happened in the US, not in France. So a French court would not be competent. And then, as you say, they will have to justify or prove the harm or distress Murray caused them.

Honestly, I think it will be thrown out, and that Ben is right, they're just here for publicity. Murray will not have to travel to France ...

I think they meant it as a joke !! But yet at the end, they wrote 'you never know"

yes, but they are also not very nice with Michael :(

I can't imagine them seeing that money. I don't think that will fly in court. IMO, the only ones entitled to money for emotional damages are Michael's children.
