Hollywood Tonight - Official Discussion Thread

Is it true a new version of HT is out? I read it in another forum? Can anyone tell what this is about - is it just a mix?

I've seen a few tweets going around to @ryanseacrest

fans asking him to play "Hollywood Tonight" on American Idol when a female contestant gets a golden ticket

Hollywood Tonight was played on the Radio 2 Breakfast Show this week on Tuesday.

It was Richard Madeley and Fiona Philips. After the song, Richard said "Wow that was as good as Billie Jean".

Fiona said "What a genius"

"Incredible"

"So good"

"Amazing"

...and wanted to know why the song wasn't released when he was alive.

Richard then asked "Can I play it again tomorrow?"

"I am blown away by that."

For UK listeners, from 1hr04 in.

Aha that was nice. The thing about Billie Jean, is listen to the demo, the song is screaming mega hit potential, the bass hook is out of this world, but it doesn't sound any better than hollywood tonight, if anything a little worse. The final thriller album version of Billie Jean, or the 12 inch version or whatnot, is just incredible and easily for me the greatest uptempo track of all time. Thats what production can do to a song, and Billie Jean had perfection, just listen to those opening drums, that kinda care and perfection is all over the whole song. While the bass hook isn't quiet as strong as Billie Jeans, thats almost the level that song could have been if it had the amazing bridge and was finished by MJ, and mixed with all the best sounds etc, i mean can you imagine the add-libbs he could have done, the kinda bridge he could have come up with etc. Thats why i feel sad listening to the song, cause while it's great, it could have been incredible, and all it shows is what we lost on june 25th.

^^ Absolutely agree...I LOVE Hollywood Tonight....Had Michael finished it....JUST WOW...I guarantee it would have gone straight into the stratosphere. That spoken part just KILLS it...The energy is sucked out at that part. We can see who the REAL master at production was. :(

I actually like the instrumental music in the background of the spoken-word part. That bassline is so good, just take out Taryll's cringeful rap and leave the backing music as it is. It'd sound perfect like that.

It's really hard. The more I listen to it, the more it seems to be him. "Breaking News" was one song among 2 others I heard before the CD "Michael" actually came out. My first listen said no, it isn't him. Since then, it has grown on me because I feel as though we won't know the truth anytime soon.

YES! that part is great...The rap is just UGH...What was Teddy thinking, seriously?

I think, keep the bassline, add a funky guitar..not too much, just enough...Something to keep you dancing...After all, what's a Michael Jackson song if you have to stop dancing right in the middle?

^^ That would work just fine. Lets not forget, there are plenty of great uptempo MJ songs with no middle-eight (Billie Jean, DSTYGE, Jam, Scream).

^^ True...if they release this song, it NEEDS something like that...The song could do great...

Frankly, I'm very interested to hear the finalized non Teddy mix of the song if rumors are to believed. Although I appreciate his work in general, I'm not really happy with his work on this song and with other songs on the album.

I really like the song "Hollywood Tonight." But, I love to dance. People who just listen may not care so much for it, but it is one to get you moving. I hope it turns out that it is MJ, because of that.

Hollywood Tonight was played in the background of a TV commercial for Finnish Idols, cooool. :)

I don't know that this was discussed:

Check song from The Jacksons Victory album, The Hurt : it starts 1:20 - listen the Michael's background vocals. It's the end of Hollywood Tonight!

Wow, after digging out my Victory CD, I listened to it, amazing find, you must have Michael's music printed in your head :).

The second official single from Michael Jackson’s album MICHAEL has been confirmed as ‘Hollywood Tonight’.

Written by Michael during the time of the INVINCIBLE album, Michael pulled the track out of the archives in 2007 to work on the song with producer Ron “Neff-U” Feemster. The track was written by Michael Jackson (spoken bridge by Teddy Riley) and produced by Michael with Teddy Riley and co-production from Neff-U.

It follows lead single “Hold My Hand”, a duet with Akon, which gave Michael his 55th UK top 10 smash hit single extending his run of UK top 10 hits to 40 years. It is the second single to be lifted from the album MICHAEL which is the fastest selling new Michael Jackson studio album in the UK since 1991’s DANGEROUS and was certified platinum within one week of release.

“It has the extraordinary confidence of a pop classic and presages an album that may well be Jackson’s best work since his Eighties glory days.” Neil McCormick, Daily Telegraph

MICHAEL is the first release in nine years of new material by one of music’s most beloved icons whose artistry continues to touch new generations of fans. The album marks another release under the new agreement between the Estate of Michael Jackson and Sony Music announced in March that continues the label’s 35-year relationship with Michael and his music. During that time, Michael sold hundreds of millions of records, had 13 US #1 singles and released the pop culture phenomenon “Thriller,” which remains music’s all-time bestselling album with more than 100 million copies sold worldwide.

Hollywood tonight is one of the strongest songs on the album in my opinion, that song wonderful, the hook the base lick love it all the sound is very unique, a nice splash in color against the music thats generally created, one of my Favorite tracks haha

If they want to release another single, I think they should go for Best of Joy. How can you not love this song? :D

This video made by MichaelD is very good , they can release also this one :)

Wow, thank you... AMAZING video!!!

Three questions:
1.) What's that "Stage 12" footage from? Never saw it before.
2.) When you see Michael in the studio approx. 1995: Was there a docu clip with an interview with him? Never saw that complete either.
3.) Who's the black-haired woman?

i have to skip through the spoken part of this song it makes me cringe so bad. plz take it out teddy.

In The Closet has a spoken parts in it so maybe Teddy was going for an In The Closet vibe for Hollywood Tonight.

Only problem is that it worked on In The Closet and it fails on Hollywood Tonight
