Is it just the new fans pushing for this album?

I'm glad Michael came out because I love michaels music. However, I have zero interest in the marketing or promotion of the songs because without Michael here it's a waste of time, the video magic is gone
And there's no hope of any stage performances. I dont even really care about which singles come out (as long as it's not the casino
Tracks). I feel like the long time fans are over it and know better than for Sony to do right by this album when they've only done so much wrong, now and in the past. If it was a album full of new hot material i may feel different
But as it stands i feel like it must be all the newer fans hoping this album is pushed and that we call radio stations and defend Michael on twitter sites and do all that stuff that only newer fans have the energy and excuse me, naiveté to engage in in regards to the album. I feel like the older fans know it's a waste of time....I'm wondering if other feel that way. I just remember being younger and figthting for those things but now a days, with mj gone and knowing Sonya heart isn't in this album that it's a waste of time.

I very much agree with you. The magic is indeed gone. Things will never be the same again

I feel a lot like you....I'm happy for the songs we've gotten...I mean, BTM, MTS, and BOJ are gifts from Michael that'll I'll always cherish. The leaked songs have proved to be incredible as well...

I feel I have zero interest in promotion/marketing pretty much because of the way the album has been handled thus far. The inclusion of the Cascio tracks has left me disgusted, really. It does seem to me that the newer fans seem to be pushing this album very hard. If I'm being honest, I'm actually glad the album has seen little promotion. The less people know about or hear the Cascio tracks, the better.

I can't feel happy about this album because it could have been HUGE. As soon as I heard BN, all excitement was gone and anger took over. I won't get into the whole vocal debacle, of course, but Michael's legacy is the most important thing to me. I don't care about a number one album or a number one single. He doesn't need either. He's proved time and time again that he will remain the greatest entertainer that ever lived. This posthumous release, to me, means nothing when comparing it to his perfect back catalogue or anything else he's ever done.

I'm a young fan at only 16, but by no means a new fan, I've been a fan all my life.

But yes I am very much pushing this album, I was only 5 when Invincible came out so I don't remember much except watching 30th Anniversary and You Rock My World, so this is the first time I was old enough to witness a MJ album release, but it wasn't really what I expected, all the controversy behind the album made me take a break from the forum, and it wasn't really promoted the way I thought it would have.
But whats great is seeing people at school, and my friends on Facebook and things singing and posting links to Hold My Hand and things, it gives my the smallest idea of what it was like when Thriller, Bad and Dangerous came out.

Things will never re the same. I can"t tell you how crazy I was about any album coming out...we were standing in front of a store waiting to buy it.
Internet changed everything.
I am thankfull for every song we will hear from Michael, because the world of music will be totaly dead without him. But I must say...it is not the same, of course.

I second what one user said about Breaking News.

I was so EXCITED! MINDBLOWINGLY EXCITED for this album because I have not been around to see the other albums like some older fans have been.

The album had so much potential to be huge then after hearing Breaking News, it just left me devastated and angry. It was not the way I wanted his first posthumous release to sound like. It was suppose to blow everyone off the waters. :(

*sigh*

I love Michael always but I don't know what to feel about this. The magic is gone because Michael is gone.

:) I am an old and a new fan altogether, because, it's a whole story that I'm not going to tell , but my fanship for any music has been interrupted for many years... I will not tell more about this ^^.

Now, since that fatefull day in 2009, I've been listening to all of Michael's music almost non stop for many many months.
I've stopped exaggerating with it, am more "moderated" fan now :) , in some way lol, my love for him hasn't diminished.

I love to hear new music from Michael, this album MICHAEL and the next ones. Despite the 3 tracks that have been a mistake...
There is still enough non controversal music from Michael and I want the world and myself to hear it.
Nobody has the right to say that Michael was done after and even before Invincible. Michael himself said on his 200.. anniv party (2005?) and also later in a speech to fans (2007?) "There is more from Michael Jackson to come". If I'm not mistaking he said it again after Thriller 25... and didn't he want to sing the première from Best Of Joy during his TII shows? ... Oh Michael!
Michael's music has so much meaning, so soulful and every new line has a new thing to tell.
I want to hear what Michael's music was telling the world and us, his fans, I want to hear everything he created for us.
And it isn't him who created he said, it comes from our Creator.
How should I not want to hear all of it?

even though I have been a fan for like over 30 years..I have mixed feeling about the new album. Without Michael here..the magic is DEFINITELY gone. Like with the new songs...there will be no video's worthy of a MJ song...who wants to see other people making an MJ video???..Not me. Even though I am happy to hear what he left behind for us to discover in his lyrics...again ..if HE didn't finish them.....what good are they..someone else cannot possibly know WHAT is was that Michael was thinking or feeling when he was working on any specific song. The world has been robbed of Michael Jackson's geniousness. I am so much more interested in finding out what happened to Michael in that room on June 25th than I am about any new music right now. As far as I am concerned....new music doesn't help the loss right now...IMO....if they were gonna release more of his stuff....they should wait until after Murray's trial.

We all must agree that it was magical when we heard snippet of Breaking news on official website, WE WERE SO EXCITED! We really thought they' re giving everything to make truly outstanding album... but then everything changed. :(

Most people were excited about the prospect of a new album, regardless of their age.

I think it has also to do with that, there wasn't anything new in the last 10 years. the last time I really cared about chart positions and album sales was Invincible. Since then i didn't care and now still don't about all thats stuff. Not only because Michael is gone. Until Invincible there was album after ablum, single after single, with a years gap to relax a little. but after 2002, nothing really mattered to me.
I'm happy about getting "Michael" album and songs that we've havn't heard. But wasn't exited at all. Just enjoyed the songs. Ok, the controversy about the Cascio songs brought some fire in positive and negative way between us. But i think the fans shoud not get to much into the whole "the album must sell millions. singles should get no.1 and etc." If it happens cool, but you should understand why the estate and sony don't put "much effort" into it. And I think they did alot in europe for passed singer, same as for present artists.
I think you're right, it's mostly new and younger fans.
I know that alot of fans have still not watched "TII" and don't care at all about new projects. they are still fans. Just it's been long time and we've all grown up.

Well, it'd be nice to see Michael on top of the charts all over the world, I am sure we all agree on that. But you said it, everything changed.
I was as a fan my whole life for him, supporting, buying multiplies copies of the albums, just to have this feeling I'm doing something to help him score the top charts, even if my 4 "Dangerous", 5 "HIStories" or 7 "Invinvible"s didn't matter at all.
Now, sometimes I feel it's all bit senseless, I cannot really enjoy anything being released or leaked with knowing he's not here anymore :(
I appreciate all unheard stuff, but at the same time, I just wish if he's not longer here, this whole machine, earning money using his name would stop. Cause it's so cruel, he's not here anymore. But still I am hungry to getting know him even better, wanna see/hear everything that was being unreleased so far..
Gee, I'm a weirdo, I know:)

it was so weird reading your first few sentences....you were only 5 when invincible came out, now youre 16?!?! it seems like yesterday i was over at mjjforum.com reading and posting about the MSG concerts and the Invincible release. so crazy how fast time goes by.

but yea i feel the same. ive gone through so much drama with mj, the whole sony/mj battle, the 2003 case, his death, etc etc etc. its just not worth the effort anymore. all i can do is watch Mj videos on youtube, and be happy when a good song is released. but the handling of this album, it's not worth the stress anymore to promote or complain. if he were still alive it would be a different story. is he seriously dead? i mean really? i remember a few years ago i was picturing what life would be like when Mj died, i'd be a father, grandpa maybe, and it was gonna suck really bad. but since its already happened, it was/is worse than i could of imagined. but life goes on. sorry for rambling, but the only thing guaraunteed in this life is what YOU do with yours, and how you affect other people.

What's hard to swallow is that "michael" is probably the most effort we will ever see from Sony. there is nothing to look forward to but unreleased tracks.

sorry for rambling, im drinking beer.

June 25th bandwagon fans. Nuff said.

Lol, what?

And from what I've seen on various forums, very little of this albums promotion is from the newer fans. It's seemingly the ones who have been around for awhile who are pushing for album sales, chart position's, and singles.

Like someone said, it's always great to see MJ on top where he belongs. Don't you feel the same? Just like I was happy to see the This Is It movie being so successful even though MJ is not here anymore and we all wish we would have watched him live instead.

I don't want anything that's coming out with MJ's name to be labeled a failure, but hey, that's just me.

And yes, I'm an older fan.

There's something to be said for morals and ethics. You can be a pack rat in a messy room, but if you have morals, you will run a good business. On the other hand, you can be neat as a pin, but if you do 'business at all costs, you will fail, eventually, and your eventually will come sooner than you think, whether you like it or not. I remember being small and seeing little cbs, become BIG SONY on MJ's back. and now it's apparent that the artist MJ was a better businessman, than the BIG BUSINESS of Sony. Their ineptitude can be seen a mile away, and it's easy to buy cameras from other companies which have less expensive and better quality products. But the music don't lie, like the ball don't lie in sports. I can't avoid 'Invincible'. It's high quality. Mike's name is real, where his spirit is, and cannot fail, no matter what people say. and his empire still stands because he took no immoral shortcuts. There's big turnover with the rest of the industry, though. This is the same in any other walk of life. Right now, greed is overtaking sports owners in american pro football, and the empire is crumbling. The economy is bad because of greed, shortcuts and cheating. There's no escaping it.

Yep it might be a society thing... nowadays seems focus is for the selfish, the sprint is done with the only target profit for only themselves... who cares about anyone else or the future.
While former generations worked for their children and did the marathon of quality standing for years and generations... well if you want that's how true legacy can be born (only).
We'll not see that too often anymore (if at all) in times like these.

I agree with some of it. I too was not too excited with Michael because of the drama. I do find that Sony's heart is not in it. If there was no problems with the album before the release date, I would have been more excited with it.

However, because it is a Michael product I will promote some of the songs on it, and those I like I would like to see as singles. I must say, though, that I am not interested in the videos, because Michael is not in them. Because I have been listening to Michael for many decades, as an older fan I will be picky about what I buy in the future. For instance, if a new song has too much nonMichael fillers I will not support it, because I already have many of the real Michael in my home.

I don't promote it because most of my friend's already own it. Aside from mentioning it on my blog or twitter when I'm listening to it, I don't promote either. I'm done with the Cascio real or fake debacle too, but I think the fact that there were questions about it at all should have been more than enough reason for Sony not to include them. The lack of promotion on Sony's part is awful too. I believe that only enhanced the 'meh' factor from older fans. I agree that anything to come will be a reminder that he's not here, but if done right in the future, it can be a good thing. I mean, personally, I feel proud when I hear that Michael is still setting or breaking new records.

I'll always cherish the music Michael released while he was here, but if there are more great Michael Jackson songs out there somewhere [that are without a doubt 100% Michael Jackson] then I personally do want to hear them. I don't remember who said it--I think it was Akon--but there was a quote about how Michael can throw away a track because he doesn't like it, but it's still 100x better than what's out right now. Even if he didn't love a song, you know that he put 100% into it if it was finished--even some of the demos are amazing, and the magic is in that. There are some beautiful songs that did make it on to Michael (Behind the Mask, Much Too Soon, Best of Joy) and/or have leaked (DYKWYCA). I believe there are more out there, but Sony dropped the ball on this, big time. They rushed it--probably for Christmas season and to correlate with all the other releases of Vision and The Experience.

BTW, I'm not a new fan. I'm young-ish, in my 20s, but I've been a fan all my life.

Although I do love the new album I have to admit I couldn't just treat it the same as I did in the past. In the past the buzz of a new album was completely different, this time it had a sad tinge to it. I know I was naughty to download it before it's official release which I would have NEVER done in the past as I felt all the anticipation was all part of it before.

Sure, I COULD have attempted to re-build the anticipation from the days gone past by waiting and going to buy a material copy upon it's release.... but it just didn't feel the same and I didn't feel right treating it the same way. I wanted to download it and, I don't know.... get it out of the way kind of?

I do love it but it doesn't feel like it used to hence why I broke the build-up quietly and dealt with it before so many others had the massive high from the album as personally, I couldn't deal with the comedown if I had built it up too much.

I hope that made sense.

My thoughts and feelings exactly :clapping:

However, I would add that all that old talk about the "new fans" being bad and naive and "old fans" being so wise, intelligent, honest and good is really pointless, in my opinion.

What's a "new" fan, anyway? There used to be a time when the only thing that matter was loving Michael Jackson and his work. Now some fans feel they have the right to ask other fans for some credentials to say they love Michael Jackson. Well, guess what? Michael Jackson never asked for any credentials at all. He loved people who was able to value his music, to see his dream and to make it his/her own dream.

So because I was first row in a Dangerous show or because I saw the making of Thriller on TV back in the early 1980's I am "better" or "I know better" than "new fans"? LoL!! There are both OLD and NEW fans pushing this new album. And funny thing is several "old" fans have the bravery to call those of us who don't like the Cascio tracks "haters" who know nothing about Michael because we are but "new fans".

LOL AND LOL!!!

C'mon guys!!! Wake up once and for all and leave that bitterness behind you. Things are already bad enough without Michael around. Why making things any worst? So much useless pride!!

in answer to the question. maybe. theres a lof of diff fans. fans of the music more than the person so pushing the album even though hes gone is seen as important. fans of the person more than the music.so frankly they dont care about any new releases as its all about getting murray and everything else seems to be irrelvent becasue of the personal loss they are dealing with. fans who never experienced the world event that was an mj album so are desperatly trying to relive it. fans who did experience it so dont see the point in an album without mj. fans who are against the album cause of the issues of it not being mjs work the cascicos etc.

personally i dont come in this section much cause i dont care, nothing matters now mj is gone. living and coping with what has happened is painful enough so nothing else really matters anymore.

I must admit I barely listen to the new album anymore. It just isn't the same-I remember the excitement when HIStory, Invincible, the TII tour was announced as Michael was here and it was easy to get swept up in the excitement of it all. It was Michael after all. But he's not here and anything 'new' now will always have that sadness to it, I just can't help it. I want to enjoy new stuff but I just cant really. I've been a fan all my life and its just not the same.

Thank you! That's much appreciated because while I willingly say I'm a new fan, at the same time I do love Michael as a human being as well as an entertainer; because I believe he was primarily about love, he wouldn't have asked me, I'm sure to need to justify or have to prove I'm a fan of his so thanks for your words.

I am a so called 'new fan', but I think I know what you mean. Although I enjoy the new music I am very sad that MJ is not here with us to promote his new album and perform his songs. This excitement will be missed in the future. - I miss MJ badly.

For me, it's not so much "growing up" because I was an adult when Invincible came out and I still called radio stations and MuchMusic and the like. But back then, it was so Michael could see the success of his creation...without him here, it seems like there's no reason to try to push it up the charts.

How can newer fans say they miss him, if they weren't even fans when he was here? I'm not trying to be an ass, I just legitamately dont think it makes sense.

I think a better way to say it would be 'I wish he was still here'.

I'm not sure if its just new fans pushing for the album, I have seen a mix of old and new. Then there are the people who were adamant that it WAS MJ on the songs and made a massive deal about it, even lashing out and those who didnt believe it was MJ. Who now go round saying it isn't MJ as if that is what they believed all along.

It's fine for people to change their minds, but to now put those down who believe it is MJ when they believed it was him at one stage is ridiculous.
