Is Michael Jackson Still A King?

Remember when Michael was crowned king in some part of Africa in 1992? Well, is he still king, or does it expire, or what? What happened? Is he still a king?
 
It was honorary so I guess as long as they honor Michael it is valid. Will forever be the King of Pop :yes:
 
Plus I just found out recently (reading on here) that his grandmother was named Chrystal King! So he truly IS a king in more ways than one. (written in the stars..lol)
 
For us MJ is the King. but I think most people in the street think´s of Elvis as the king.

Anyone who's greatest hit compilations sell just as much if not more than the "hot new artists" is a king, be it of a country or music. Thriller 25 has sold more copies than many new sensations sell. Invincible and Number Ones sold a ton too.

Michael is KING of ENTERTAINEMENT..

U go to the streets and more people will say MICHAEL over ELVIS..

and I don't mean just in the U.S. and/or U.K..

to get a complete truthfull answere on this, you'll have to go all around the world..

Michael is known in more countries than any other celeb/entertainer/politition..

"Most people in the street" have been lied to.

There are TOO MANY pioneers of "rock n roll" music that came WAAAAAY before Elvis (which he stole from) to be calling him the "King" of anything. I just think it's such a shame! Elvis was a showman who played three chords on the guitar and never wrote his own songs, come on! Let's give it up to the true pioneers. Elvis is overrated, IN MY OPINION.

But I digress....

U have to consider.. "WHAT STREETS" are you asking.. because if you go all around the world, you'de be suprized how little amount of people even know who Elvis is..

Michael is far more global.

FACT:

Michael kicks ass. He has done things NO ONE IN THE WORLD HAS OR WILL!

So there is just a lot of JEALOUSY in the world. Michael is from another planet.

And hell, I love that planet!
 
I have been talking to people all over the world. most in UK, US and norway. I have been discussing mj most part of my life....talking to people i meet. you know...we always get to talk about music. I and i have been defending him always.
but my conclusion is that people sadly rate Elvis, beatles over MJ.

I even hear people say Nirvana and U2 as well.

I do get what you mean. I don't recall the name of the tribe, but there was a big article about it in Ebony at that time, sometime during Dangerous era. Michael travelled to Africa for it.

When this tribe crowned him, it was for life. Unless Michael would decide himself that he wants to step down, but I don't see why he would do that.

Although his crowning was more an honorary ceremony than that it's an official legal thing. You see, he was crowned King of a tribe, not of any country.
 
yes he is a king. the vast majority of videos on tv today, twenty five years running proves that.

Too bad they don't mention the name of the tribe or the country.... it was somewhere in West Africa, wasn't it? Ivory Coast maybe? Does anyone remember? I'll try and look it up later.

looking at the print of the cloth is must have been from ghana, its called the kente, my parents are from there. got the still pics somewhere on my pc.

King of Pop Michael Jackson and his wife Lisa Marie Presley-Jackson recently played host to King Nana Amon Ndoufou IV, ruler of Sanwi on the Ivory Coast, during a break from his recording sessions in Los Angeles.

Smiling broadly and exuding a special joy, Jackson greeted the exalted ruler who had crowned him King of Sanwi three years ago when the "King of Pop, Rock and Soul" visited the West African nation, one of six countries he toured on a goodwill trip to Africa (JET, March 16, 1992).

It was Black History Month in 1992 when Jackson was crowned King of Sanwi during impressive ceremonies held in the Village of Krindjabo, located near Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Called the "prodigal child of the Bible," the King of Pop was regal in bearing as the crown of gold was placed upon his head.

During the King's visit to Los Angeles, Jackson took pride in hosting King Ndoufou IV, the most important Akan ruler in the Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast).

Commenting briefly on the visit of the King who crowned him King of Sanwi, Jackson told JET:

"Michael Jackson was extremely pleased and delighted to host the King."

During the 17th and 18th centuries, four Agni clans crossed the Camoe River and established themselves at Krinjabo. The head of the first clan was immediately crowned King of Sanwi, because the Akan cannot conceive of human society without a King.

King Ndoufou is more than a symbol, he is the spirit of his people and the father of his subjects. His person is sacred and inviolate. The King identifies with his deceased ancestors. That is why, according to tradition, he is called "Nana," which means old wise man.

No matter what his actual age, the King is a sacred man and is called "Nana" by all of his subjects, even the elderly, because he is ageless and, therefore, the eldest.

While in the U.S., King Ndoufou and his representatives brought greetings from President Henri Konan Bedie and the people of the Ivory Coast. Ndoufou and his representatives made tentative plans to meet with U.S. businessmen to inform them of investment opportunities in the Ivory Coast. They also scheduled a meeting with Atty. Johnnie Cochran, the chief defense attorney for O.J. Simpson. Cochran is honorary consulate for the Ivory Coast.
