Michael Jackson Estate News (Announcements and Discussion)

Re: Michael Jackson Estate News (Announcements and Discussion) - 2018 and Beyond

They best do something more than having a select few in Vegas be able to celebrate. There are fans all over the world who aren't privileged enough to make it to Vegas, myself included.

MJ was all about getting all the fans involved. If the Estate wants to follow 'Michael's desire', do the same.

You're comment an year old but i totally agree. Michael made sure all his fans was welcome and good access to these events. the estate needs to do the same because that how Michael would of loved it. as a fan and my mother we can't go to half these events because their not close to our state. i live in the usa.

Finally! i was gonna make an thread for this. glad to know it exist. so what do with posts that have do with a topic with thread that already exist?
If there's already a thread for it then post in there, don't make a new thread. And make sure it's actually properly relevant to the topic before posting it.

This is true. Robson and Safechuck did not win against the Estate. They have, however, been allowed to have another tilt at MJJ Ventures and MJJ Productions due to the new law that extends the statute of limitations until the "victims" turn 40.

I have just learnt, today, that Tom Mesereau is serving as Special Counsel to John Branca and is assisting the Estate's lawyers to prepare for this lawsuit. Robson and Safechuck do not have a hope in hell of succeeding.

What's the reason they can't pursue a claim against Michael Jackson...again.

What's the reason they can't pursue a claim against Michael Jackson...again.

The statute of limitations prevents them from making a claim against Michael himself, a.k.a. the MJ Estate and their claims and/or appeals have already been denied; something to do with the time frame of when they "realised" they'd been (allegedly) abused, etc. They have no avenues left, with regard to that.

The recent changes to the law, regarding the statute of limitations, however, have enabled them to pursue their claims against the companies, via some loop hole. In my opinion, they don't have a snow ball's chance in hell of proving that anyone in the companies of MJJ Productions and MJJ Ventures, is liable for their (alleged) abuse. Safechuck, in particular, was never employed by either of the companies.

Michael Jackson Estate Inks BMI Deal

by TV News Desk Jan. 21, 2020

BMI (Broadcast Music Inc.) and The Estate of Michael Jackson announced today that they have inked a renewal agreement for BMI to continue to represent the performing rights in Michael Jackson's songwriting catalog. This new deal continues an uninterrupted 41-year long relationship between the King of Pop and the performance rights organization which began in 1979 when Michael Jackson first signed with BMI. The Estate and BMI last renewed the deal in 2014.

"Michael first signed with BMI in the nascent stage of his solo career and BMI has never wavered in its commitment to his extraordinary talent. This is a significant agreement, commensurate with the robust growth of interest in his music and his enduring contribution to the culture," said John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson.

"The influence of Michael Jackson's revolutionary music is undeniable," said Mike O'Neill, President & CEO, BMI. "We are extremely pleased that his estate continues to entrust BMI to represent his extraordinary catalog."

Michael Jackson's remarkable career scaled unparalleled musical, commercial and critical heights. As a songwriter, he penned more than 150 songs, with more than 20 reaching multi-million performance status. Michael's compositions include some of the most iconic songs of all time: We Are the World; Billie Jean; Smooth Criminal; Wanna Be Startin' Somethin; They Don't Care About Us; Earth Song; Black or White; Bad; Love Never Felt So Good; Can You Feel It; Heal the World and more.

To illustrate the strength of Jackson's vast repertoire, 17 of his songs have exceeded over one million plays on radio, with some exceeding five million spins. In total, these 17 songs alone have surpassed 30 million radio plays, an outstanding feat by any measure.

Michael's music continues to thrill fans and inspire artists all over the world. At the end of last year, Michael's albums held spots on ten of Billboard's year end charts and on-demand streams of his music increased by 23%, outpacing the industry at large. With over 6.5 billion streams, he remains one of the most popular artists of all time.

That's great news! Michael simply not going anywhere. he still gonna be "here" with our grandchildren children.

The Estate is pressuring the California Appellate Court to cut the Quincy Jones Verdict of $9.4 Million!

To recall, Jones was rewarded the $9.4 Million in 2017 for his Royalty damages for his work on “Off the Wall”, “Thriller” and “Bad”.

The Estate’s Attorney Zia Modabber from Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP is arguing that Jones’s interpretation of the contract for remixed recordings is not valid and conclude Jones was not owed anything for them at all.

It seems we are up for another long court battle again as the case was raised by Jones in 2017.

If the Estate does manage to get it through, this will mean they will be able to rework/remix/repackage the 3 albums without Jones’s approval or say. (not to mention they will save $9.4 Million!)

I hope the Estate is successful with this appeal. I never believed that Quincy Jones was on the right side of law and ethics with his claim in the first place and $9.4 million is just ridiculous.

Michael Jackson estate gives to Broadway / Vegas needy amid outbreak

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Michael Jackson estate is donating $300,000 to help entertainment industry workers on Broadway, the music business and in Las Vegas who have been hurt by the coronavirus pandemic.

The estate announced Wednesday that it will give $100,000 apiece to Broadway Cares, the food bank Three Square in Nevada and MusiCares, because all three areas have been good to the estate and to Jackson.

"This virus, this pandemic affects all of us obviously, so we wanted to start in our own communities," John Branca, the estate's co-executor, told The Associated Press. "This is personal for us."

A Jackson-themed Broadway show, "MJ The Musical" is scheduled to start previews in July, though like the rest of Broadway it is currently on hold amid the coronavirus shutdown. No announcements have been made on postponing the show, and the estate and producers are taking a wait-and-see approach, Branca said.

"Michael Jackson ONE," the long-running Jackson-based Cirque du Soleil show at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, where Jackson lived late in his life, is also on hold indefinitely.

"Las Vegas has been very good to Michael," Branca said.
The estate's donation there will provide 300,000 meals to the needy, and help to maintain the supplies of the food bank Three Square, the estate said.

In New York, the estate says it is donating to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS' COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Fund, and will give the rest to MusiCares, the charitable branch of the Recording Academy that helps those in the music industry who are economically struggling.

The estate says the donations are inspired by the constant charitable work of Jackson himself.

"Michael was extremely generous both of his time and his money in his life, and it's in his music too," Branca said. "We look to Michael for leadership and inspiration. We're doing what Michael would have been doing."

For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death.

The Michael Jackson Estate today announced that it is donating $300,000 to coronavirus response efforts to help three communities that have been severely impacted by the Covid 19 virus. Broadway Cares, Three Square Food Bank (Southern Nevada’s largest hunger-relief organization) and MusicCares will each receive a $100,000 donation.

“This virus strikes at the heart of the communities we are close to,” said John Branca and John McClain, co-executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson.

“We learned today that the legendary Manu Dibango (a key influence on Jackson’s hit ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’) passed away from the virus.

Other performers and support staff in music and on Broadway are sick or have been left without work and are facing an uncertain future. And in Las Vegas, which has been so welcoming to Michael Jackson, the entire city has been shut down leaving thousands of workers and their families devastated and without an income.

“Michael’s spirit of generosity and helping others during his lifetime is legendary. These donations are inspired by him,” they concluded.

In New York, the Estate is answering the challenge made by more than 20 Broadway producers who are matching up to $1 million in donations, doubling the impact of contributions to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS’ COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Fund. Jackson loved attending Broadway performances and the Estate and its partner, Lia Vollack Productions, continue to look forward to welcoming audiences to MJ the Musical later this year.

“With every passing day that theaters remain dark, entertainment and performing arts professionals face unprecedented and immediate challenges,” said Tom Viola, executive director Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

“This incredibly generous donation from the Michael Jackson Estate will help ensure those onstage, backstage and behind the scenes get lifesaving health care, emergency financial assistance and counseling during and after this crisis.”

In Las Vegas, the Estate’s donation will provide 300,000 meals to the needy, and help to maintain Three Square Food Bank’s supplies, the largest foodbank in Southern Nevada. Since opening in February 2013, Michael Jackson ONE, produced by Cirque du Soleil and the Estate of Michael Jackson, has been one of the most popular shows in Vegas.

“Before the pandemic, 1 in 8 Southern Nevadans lived in a food-insecure household and that number will increase exponentially with the displacement of thousands of workers in our community.

Thank you to the Estate of Michael Jackson for stepping up to help children, families, veterans and senior citizens who may need help now more than ever,” Michelle Beck, Chief Development Officer.

The Recording Academy and MusiCares will support the music makers who Michael Jackson worked with and loved in a time where the industry is being challenged at every level from the virus.

From the Estate of Michael Jackson:

Hi #MJFam:
We wanted to share some good news with you today.

The Estate has won its appeal in the lawsuit against Quincy Jones. The judge ruled that the jury erred when it awarded Quincy $9.4 million and completely agreed with the Estate’s position on all of the claims the Estate raised in its appeal and completely rejected Quincy’s appeal claims.

This is a huge victory for Michael’s Estate. You can read more about the ruling here:

We hope everyone is safe and healthy
