G'day everyone I've started this weekend's edition of the news a little late :flowers:

I haven't spotted any MJ news yet :)

Michael Jackson Mentionings:

A beautiful transition

The album has been getting good word-of-mouth reviews from fans. It’s a smooth fusion of instruments and funk and lives up to the expectations created by Peace of Mind. However, I find the SAMA nominated album a tad safe: he samples Michael Jackson’s Beat It in Dala and there isn’t a song that’s particularly noteworthy.

Showcasing student creativity
By Arch’t. Karl A.E.F. Cabilao, UAP

Also in the program, not only were the students’ creative talents recognized, but so was the stage. It also served as a spot to showcase the students’ musical talents, like playing the violin and dancing ala Michael Jackson, much to the delight of everyone, especially dean Maxwell Espina and USC president Fr. Roderick Salazar, SVD.

Michael Jackson Mentionings for March 30, 2008:

Arlene says that most pop stars -- apart from Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, whom she feels are a world apart, -- are more "movers" than "dancers".

The Birmingham Invitational Black Rodeo on Saturday had the bull riding and calf roping found at other rodeos. It also had that agrarian aroma when livestock is involved.
But it also played rap artist Young Dro's "Shoulder Lean" between some of the bull rides with helpings of Michael Jackson and the O'Jays, a departure from a typical country/Western roundup.

Original Oliver actor Mark Lester's advice to TV wannabes

Today, the only reminder of Mark's former life is his enduring friendship with singer Michael Jackson.
Mark even offered to stick up for Jackson at his trial after his pal was charged with alleged child abuse.
"Michael is one of my best friends. I talked to him just a couple of days ago. I've stayed at Neverland countless times. We met more than 30 years ago when he was on tour here with the Jackson Five. His agent rang me up and said: 'Michael's favourite film is Oliver! He'd love to meet you.' "We went for a coffee and we've been pals ever since. I'm just so proud of him He's managed to turn his life around after all the claims and he's just trying to get by.
"We have so much in common. We were both thrust into the spotlight at a very early age. If you haven't experienced that, it's impossible to fully understand."

Next up was an uproarious and hilarious cover of Michael Jackson's Beat It and another groovy Diamond Hoo Ha track Outside, featuring a guest sax player, before they rounded off their brief party piece with their high-energy 1995 hit Lenny.

Michael Jackson HIStory for March 30, 2008:

1988 - Michael Jackson won the Best Single, Male and Album Of The Year, Male categories at the second annual Soul Train Music Awards.

2004 - It was reported that the 14-year-old boy that had accused Michael Jackson of molestation testified before a grand jury. A comedy club owner also testified that he was the first to arrange a meeting for Jackson and the boy to meet.

New Artist Watch: Qwote

Born in Haiti and raised in NY and Miami, Qwote showed his love for music since an early age. Drawing inspiration from artists like Sam Cooke, The Beatles, Michael Jackson and Lenny Kravitz, Qwote decided to commit to music and work hard towards his future goals and success. His first break came when he got a chance to work with Slip N Slide's artist Trina and producer Steve Obas, owner of Final Cut Music Group. His writing skills and charming vocals quickly led him to a record deal with Slip N Slide. To this date, Qwote has collaborated with Trina, Wayne Wonder and Shaggy among others.

this comment reminds me of the David Cook's/ Chris Connell rock version of Billie Jean... it shows Michael is truly 'the' cross-over artist..(Beat It / Billiie Jean)

LA Reid once said that 'Billie Jean' is truly genius because its such an intricate song..that one song can really be 3 different songs... (I can't remember word-for-word)...

but Michael wrote that song all by himself.. so every time..someone performs a song he wrote.. I am loving it! KACHING!!$$

Twenty-five years after it was issued, Michael Jackson’s Thriller has become even more difficult to assess. By dangling babies over railings, putting himself in the position of being accused of child molestation — a charge that, incidentally, never was proven — and routinely altering his facial appearance, Jackson, of course, hardly has helped his cause. Although individuals certainly have every right to decide for themselves whether or not to purchase his albums and contribute further to his bank account, it is important for critics to separate Jackson’s actions from his art. If it is heard with a clear head, Thriller not only remains a certifiable classic but it also has retained both its charm and its relevance.
There’s no denying the fact that Thriller was an immediate phenomenon in popular culture. It truly did not matter whether or not one was a fan of Jackson’s post-disco dance grooves. In 1982 — as well as the years that followed — his songs weren’t just impossible to avoid, they also were impossible to resist. Even the debut of his videos turned into events that — like The Beatles’ appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show — were not to be missed. There are only three outings in music history that succeeded in placing seven tracks in Billboard’s Top 10, and Thriller came first. It’s no wonder, then, that the set continues to have the distinction of being the best-selling album of all time.
Nevertheless, listening to Thriller today is an odd experience, especially for those who weren’t necessarily fans of Jackson’s solo work but nonetheless lived through his kingly reign over the pop charts. On the one hand, the music is stuck in time, forever tied to an era from long ago, so much so that Jackson’s Human Nature sounds like the entire impetus for Howard Jones’ solo career. Simultaneously, though, the songs themselves feel strangely contemporary. Although different beats and textures have been applied to the hit singles that have emerged since 1982, pop music itself — particularly the dance-friendly kind — hasn’t really evolved, at least not in ways that are nearly as appealing and compelling as Thriller.
Consider this: With Thriller, Jackson resurrected disco by making an album that brought together a cast that included Paul McCartney, Eddie Van Halen, actor Vincent Price, members of Toto, and producer Quincy Jones. In spite of its seemingly hodgepodge construction, the resulting effort actually felt cohesive and complete. By delving into gang warfare (Beat It) and commenting on a then-recent paternity suit against him (Billie Jean), Jackson dealt with big issues, too, which is something pop music frequently has struggled to accomplish in a meaningful fashion. In tying unshakeable melodies to thumping bass lines (Wanna Be Startin’ Something) and a writhing electric guitar lead (Beat It), Jackson turned Thriller into an album that was universally acceptable, yet also phenomenally good. He even dared to slip an ode to The Beatles into the title tune as well as to highlight it by having Paul McCartney sing with him on the preceding track The Girl Is Mine.
In the wake of Thriller’s enormous success, everyone from Justin Timberlake to Britney Spears to Usher has attempted to put their own stamp upon Jackson’s work, but the results — even those by Jackson himself — largely have sounded like carbon-copy clones or, worse, as if they had been manufactured from synthetic components. Therefore, it ought not to be a surprise that the well-meaning remakes of the album’s songs by contemporary artists such as Fergie and Kanye West — which are tacked onto the conclusion of the 25th anniversary edition of Thriller — fail miserably. Akon, at least, had the wisdom to alter the flow of Wanna Be Startin’ Something, but his version still pales in comparison to the original. This, of course, is an illuminating statement about what Jackson achieved as well as about the decline of pop music in general.
As an added bonus, the newly minted version of Thriller also compiles the short films that Jackson made for Beat It, Billie Jean, and the title track. Wonderfully conceived and expertly choreographed, they continue to provide insight into Jackson’s showmanship, though it’s equally true that they haven’t aged nearly as well as the music itself. In the end, Thriller might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but even those who hate the sounds that typically emanate from nightclubs have to admit that Jackson left a very big imprint upon popular culture, one that has proven to be rather difficult — if not impossible — to recreate, let alone supplant. Transitional Investors Case

I just received the following statement from Transitional Investors regarding their ongoing case against Michael Jackson:

"Our case has nothing to do with either his musical talents and merit, nor anything related to any prior assertions of pedophilia. Stuart Shelly"

The case will go on trial this September.

That is a very backhanded way of trying to smear MJ isn't it by bringing up past allegations in the form of a denial, very similar to what Shaffel did.Keep playing dirty. MJ isn't afraid of that any more.

What was you message to them that they are replying to? This seems to make no sense.

Thanks for the news guys!

Also I dont know if this was mentioned but yesterday during some dance show on nickelodeon called Dance on Sunset some kids were mentioning how much Michael Jackson has inspired them to become dancers themselves. I thought that was really sweet. A couple of kids in the audience even did the circle glide thing that Mike does lol

Also the choreographer on the show actually choreographs for Janet. I think he said he's only 18 or he was 18 when he started choreographing for her.

I thought the mention of both MJ and JJ on the show was awesome.
