Moves you haven't seen him doing before! (merged)

Hmm, I pretty much since them all. But what really got me  is this early Jackson 5 performance, where he does those James Brown steps. It was EXACTLYthe move Michael did in 'Wanna Be Starting Something' on the HIStory tour, it scared my weave off LOL.

Great thread! A few of these clips posted in here I had never seen before.

There's this one clown walk he does during a performance of "Stranger In Moscow" that I've only seen him do once. It looks ultra cool, but I can't remember where exactly it was from. Maybe Denmark or Munich.

Okay, I found it. It was in Amsterdam. He does it right around 1:36. It's rad. Michael should do more pantomime because he's as good at it as anyone I've ever seen. He's fantastic at acting out things with his body, or acting something out in a stiff and forced way, like he's pushing or pulling against something. He can just make himself incredibly rigid and then walk, or pull or push, and he is amazingly minute with his movements, enhancing the effect looking as though its being shot in frames.

Another example of him doing pantomime is from the Variety Shows, when he's acting as a clock chimmer. He's doing the robot, but that's derived from pantomime. Right around 0:52, when he gets hit with the hammer. The way he moves to look like he's been knocked off balance is out of this world, because it really does look like he was! A master of movement. That's Michael. He can do anything.

I Call it the penguin walk, and yeah thats one crazy move its looks kinda funny too, lol. The things this man can do with his body.

HEY what about that move he does on IN THE CLOSET video where he's moving to the side while he shoots his hands and feet in and out at the same time. Its right on the climax of the song..

Anyway its good to be back on MJJC Its beautiful up here since everyone from MJNO jumped ship. HOLLA BACK NICOLE!

Yeah, that step he does on "ITC" is killer. It shows how much coordination he has and how rhythmic he is.

Glad you were able to finally make it back online!

best signature ever :)

you can watch it forever looped, lol.

i love the last bit how he kicks his leg up high... i love how he does that, i think he does it a few times in that video clip.

oh, yeah.... that's great and funny at the same time ( as it supposed to be).... playing with the movement [sth. in the style of Donald O'Connor's "Make Them Laugh" if you know what I mean]

by the way I'm so happy there was "The Jacksons variety" show... thanks to it we could see the diversity of Michael's dancing

a true great dancer can dance everything.... it's not only about the technique but also (and it's far more important) about feeling of the

rhythm
and his is just out of this world (!!!):D

Absolutely. Like Sammy Davis Jr. said, Michael smacks of that era of showbusiness. He incorporates more classic hollywood era musical dance forms in to his style then he does modern street movement and dancing really. I love the variety shows for the very reason you mentioned. It shows Michael's ability to adapt and execute to perfection any type of movement, whether that be jazz, tap or ballroom dancing to popping and pantomime. I've seen many dancers who are really good at one form of dance, but give them something they aren't used to or haven't ever done before, and they fall flat on their face, they aren't that talented and they really have to work at it to be even half way decent. Michael is able to dance in any form or style and do it just as well as either or because his initial movement, just the natural way that he moves, it truly superior. There are very few dancers with his natural ability. And also, as you say, feeling is highly important. I think in order to be a great dancer, you have to have both components. You have to be technically good and you have to be emotive. One without the other doesn't make you great. I've seen technically perfect dancers who have no feeling or rhythm and thus they aren't great dancers, just technically sound, and I've seen emotive dancers who lack good technique, and thus they aren't great either, just highly energetic and charasmatic. Michael has both aspects though in massive quantities. He's technically brilliant, with perfect, clean lines, perfect extention, incredible speed, amazing fluidity and control, no excess movement, so much ease, or grace, in his step, highly rhythmic and he emotes unlike any other I've ever seen. I always say about Michael's dancing, if there was no music, or if you couldn't hear any music, but you were watching Michael dance, you would be able to visualize in your mind what the music should or does sound like, what type of atmosphere and emotion it expresses, just from watching him move.

That was great to read! It pretty much sums up what I feel or think about Michael's dance abilities. He's truely one of a kind and so unique. You are absolutely right with your last sentence!

Wannabe, I overall agree with you....
I would say that lack of technique limits a gifted (with the feeling of the rhythm) dancer but watching a perfect at technique but without a feeling of the rhythm one is just ( at least for me) painful to watch... and i mean it

Well if you're confined to one form, yes, it limits the dancer. I don't mean actual trained technique, I just mean ones natural ability in terms of form, speed, etc... Michael doesn't have any technique that he thinks about, it just happens naturally for him that he forms good lines, is graceful, has good speed, etc... That isn't something he learned, its just something that occures innately for him, that's why I think he's more gifted then anybody in terms of dance.

and yeah... because of his incredible feeling of the rhythm Michael wants to emphasize every single beat
like for instance that amazing dancing routine for "Bad"..... it was sooooooo brilliant that there have been many imitators like Janet, Britney and others.. of this 'jerky' (hope you know what I mean) movement ...but they miss a point... they forget what Michael says about dancing... it is about 'the feeling'
it's not about lol 'jerkiness' itself but about rhythm which dictates you how to move...
and this why Michael is faaaaar better than anyone at dancing- he feels it:D
