Much Too Soon - Discussion

I only listen to songs when they are intended for us to listen to them. Hence I don't listen to 20 second clips of unfinished songs. Hence I listen to the completed song with an open mind. Hence I don't feel the need to moan about every little change that happens to a song before it gets on the album. Hence I love this song.

Some people just love a bit of 'drama' it seems - and it always seems to invlove the same people.

Great and unusual song, but I hate the spoken intro, it doesn't fit this song at all!

There is NO spoken intro. - you have the wrong leaked version.

Spoken intro is NOT part of the song.

Thanks, but I hate iTunes & co, I guess it's my problem then :D

I guess so.... you can only hope someone will upload the stream into youTube, else just wait about 2 more weeks....

I didn't get to listen to the new one...but accordion?

Don't worry.
it's not big deal really.
there's accordian in Blue GAnsta too and I don't see anyone complaining about that.

Much too soon is beutiful :)

New Michael Jackson Song 'Much Too Soon' Released Online

Melancholy love ballad was recorded during Thriller era.
By Gil Kaufman

Yet another new song from the upcoming first posthumous album from Michael Jackson, Michael, has appeared online, and it should appease fans who feared that the 10-song effort would draw primarily from the singer's less-fruitful later years. "Much Too Soon" dates back to the late King of Pop's legendary 1982 Thriller album.

Like the melancholy "Hold My Hand," another song from the album due out on December 14, the latest track is an earnest love ballad. "Much Too Soon" premiered on the iTunes' social networking site, Ping, on Tuesday (November 30).

Singing over a gently picked acoustic guitar and soft, majestic strings, Jackson employs his fragile falsetto to moon about a lover who has left him. The tune mixes a folk feel with touches of classical guitar and a Stevie Wonder-like harmonica break.

"She was there just sitting at the table/ Thinking now that things won't be the same/ And wouldn't you like to go with me?/ And she answered 'no' to me/ But I guess I learned my lesson much too soon," Jackson sings as subtle choir voices rise behind him. "Take away this never-ending sorrow/ Take this lonely feeling from my soul/ If only I knew what things bring tomorrow/ She'd be sitting here beside me."

At just under three minutes, the melancholy ballad has the intimate feel of a credits track that might roll at the end of a tear-jerker movie, and according to notes on the Ping site, it was always a favorite of Jackson's.

"Michael always liked the song and would pull it back out of the vaults for each subsequent album project but never found the right home for it," the site revealed. "Here it finds its place as the bittersweet closing to the stellar collection."

The song was written by Jackson and co-produced along with one of the executors of his estate, John McClain. The string section features famed arranger David Campbell (Adam Lambert, Metallica, My Chemical Romance).

"Hold My Hand," featuring vocals from Akon, is the first official single from the album. Its universal plea for peace features some classic Jackson lyrics delivered over a lilting Caribbean beat.

"Much Too Soon" is actually the third tune from Michael to surface in recent weeks, following on the heels of the uptempo "Breaking News." That never-before-heard track — set to a propulsive, robotic beat and layered with MJ's signature helium-high vocals — was another in a series of songs Jackson penned lashing out at the intrusive media.

Oh yes, this song does sound like it could be played during the ending credits of a sad movie.

I love melancholy songs so much. This one is so beautiful. I listened to both the leaked and current versions more carefully this morning and came to the conclusion that they are both well done. The accordian isn't a big deal to me (though it's fine if someone else doesn't care for it). To me the addition just gives the song a fuller sound (I'm not a musician or expert so I can't think of the proper terms to use). I do understand that some fans feel Michael's work should be left alone and I agree but unfortunately, there are other cooks in the kitchen now and none of them are Michael. Darn it.

For some reason, this song reminds me of a nursery rhyme I heard when I was little...I just can't put my finger on it though. All I know is that it sounds very familiar and the tune is similar to something I've heard before when I was younger!

What is itunes ping? Do you go to itunes for that? I am not sure if I want to hear the song now or wait until the album comes out.

Yes you go to iTunes and on the left side there is a feature called Ping. - It's streaming songs.

Some say this sounds like some old Carpenters tunes... it did remind me of them, but that is just my veeeeeeeeeeeeeryyyyyy personal opinion, I wouldn't go as far as stating there is any link to those songs.

I had the same feeling you described :)

^^

You are very welcome. Hope you enjoy the song. It is very beautiful.

i'm really pissed that john mcclain had to put his hands on this song.

it was clearly a demo and what he did was a typical "poor man's job", like we already saw it from "this is it" (the single that he produced)

the song could be so great with a grand orchestra in the background, something's really missing, it could be a really heart melting and dreamy song, but this way you're always like "please come, monumental moment"

The accordion didn't ruin anything. It sounds great. You can barely hear it anyway.

The new version is more fresh and crisp than the first version we got.

I like the album version the most. Sooo beautiful.

Blue Gangsta has an accordian too and no one has made any negative comments about it!
:D

Excuse me???? Did i read that right? Phleasee do NOT tell me u just done messin' with mah song? I loooooove This is it - it's perfect as it is, it don't need nothin' taken out or added, it's purrre perfection.

J/K no harm intended, we're all free to have our opinions, i juusst love that song very, verrry much, that's all :)

Exactly, it didn't ruin a darn thing. Both versions are beautiful, i heard them both for the first time on Tuesday. I ain't got the time or the interest to go search for leaks and stuff.

The melody is absolutely gorgeous, as is his voice, justt perfect for cold winter nights, candle light, wine and cinnamon. Not too keen on some of the lyrics though - me rhyming with me again???? I know he had a big ego, i looove his big ego  but come on Mike....the poet in you can do sooo much better than that baby :p

It is interesting to see what Michael was doin' back in 1981 while i was either in my mom's tummy or barely out of it :giggle:

love this track. basic and simple .just his beautiful voice

It is a beautiful soothing song, something you can dance to with your lover. I wonder what it would sound like with a full orchestra? However, I love it!

Perhaps I missed this but I read on an album review that "Much Too Soon" was actually recorded during the HIStory sessions, the vocals on the album version that is. Is this true?
